Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. This season, tribes were initially split by age. How many castaways joined each tribe?

Answer: Ten

Arriving in Fiji, ten 'Millennials' aged 18-31 and ten 'Generation X'ers' aged 33-52 were brought to their starting point on a sandy beach and Jeff handed them their properly-labelled buffs, indicating that they were all selected to be on tribes divided by their generational differences.

The purple tribe, Takali, contained the older half of contestants; the orange tribe, Vanua, featured the younger half. The season featured contestants born between 1963 and 1997 (the youngest ever on the show). Before heading off to their camps, the tribes made decisions about items to collect for their camp and departed on their adventure.
2. For the first time in "Survivor" history, the entire cast was evacuated on account of which of these?

Answer: Natural disaster

Immediately after receiving their buffs and tribes, the castaways were warned of cyclone season from the get-go and headed off to build their camps. Night one proved difficult for both tribes as they created virtually unusable shelters and braced for a major storm.

As a result, Jeff sent both tribes thick tarps to be used and returned at a later date, but an unusually powerful storm-front swept in and forced all castaways off the island on Day 2. It was the first time in thirty-three seasons that all castaways were removed from the island for any reason. Everyone returned to camp the following day.
3. When the tribal swap occurred on Day 13, a third tribe was created. Which of these was it?

Answer: Ikabula

The game started with only two tribes-- Takali (Gen-X) and Vanua (Millennials)-- but on Day 13, all sixteen remaining players were brought together for a tribal switch. Five players headed back to the original Takali camp and five went back to Vanua, but six players ended up donning green buffs and heading out as Ikabula, the third, new tribe, and proceeded to make an all-new camp elsewhere.

The swap would last until Day 21 and the merge, by which point every one of the three active tribes had made their way to Tribal Council and eliminated a member.
4. The merge, on Day 21, brought together thirteen castaways. What was the merged tribe's name?

Answer: Vinaka

Early on Day 21, the tribe members of Ikabula and Takali were met by boats at their beachfronts and instructed to gather their belongings-- they would have five minutes to take everything they wanted along with them because they would be uniting on the Vanua beach for the merge.

This season, the thirteen castaways moved into the individual portion of the game donning a black buff and the tribe name Vinaka. What followed was the customary feast and the obvious recalibration of alliances.
5. During the merge feast, Adam received an advantage allowing him to steal which of the following?

Answer: A reward

On the day of the merge, Adam snuck away on the hunt for a possible merge-camp Immunity Idol and ended up stumbling upon a hidden advantage hidden away atop the tree-mail station and, opening this, he discovered that it allowed him to steal a reward from any upcoming Reward Challenge of his choosing, taking it in place of one winner after it's been won.

He attempted to use this advantage as a bargaining chip, but it ended up backfiring a fair bit. He would end up giving the advantage to Jay, a gift for letting him come along for the loved one reward, and Jay used it on Day 36 before the final reward and his elimination.
6. One vote this season boiled down to the drawing of rocks. Who drew the black rock and was eliminated from the game in this rare event?

Answer: Jessica

With Jay winning immunity on Day 30, the castaways went into Tribal Council intending to vote out either Zeke or Hannah, the former as a strategic play and the latter a counter-attack brought on by Zeke's powerful group of voters. It resulted in the first and only tie of the season and, as such, required a revote.

The catch was that, on the revote, no one changed their minds, leading Jeff to force all those not immune to have to draw rocks. Because Jay won immunity, he was immune. Additionally, Zeke and Hannah were immune as no one could decide on who to eliminate. Finally, Ken was immune as David used his hidden idol on him prior to the vote.

It meant six rocks were drawn, and because Jessica drew the black rock, she was sent to the jury without a vote.

This was the third rock-draw in the show's history.
7. Though many individual idols were used throughout the game, how many successfully saved someone from being voted out?

Answer: One

There were two instances in which someone utilized an idol to affect actual change during this season. The first of these was at the game's fourth Tribal Council ceremony, and this is the only one in which the idol, played by David, was used to negate enough votes to save someone from being ousted from the game (he played it on Jessica, negating five votes of eight).

The only other effective idol was used on Day 30 when David used another idol to protect Ken, saving him from drawing rocks. There's no knowing if he would've been the one to draw the black rock.
8. The 'Legacy Advantage' resulted in which of the following for its possessor on Day 36?

Answer: Immunity

On Day 1, Jessica (of Takali) found what would be known as the Legacy Advantage in the scramble to obtain essential camp items. She would later head to camp to discover that it would have a major effect throughout the competition. If a castaway was in possession of the note on Day 36 they would receive an advantage in the game (this was later proven to be immunity in that Tribal Council). If the person in possession of the advantage was voted out before then, they had to give it to another player. Jessica, being eliminated on Day 30, gave it to Ken because of his effort to warn her during her near-elimination earlier in the game.

It was used during the season finale, nulling out one vote against him.
9. Were any Hidden Immunity Idols collected in this season found after the merge?

Answer: Yes

By the time teams entered the merge, four Hidden Immunity Idols were located throughout the camps occupied by the tribes in Fiji. David was first to locate one at the Gen-X camp on Day 5; he ended up using it on Day 12 to save Jessica and he subsequently relocated it during a hunt on Day 13, using it on Day 30's Tribal Council (the one with the rocks) on Ken. Adam found both a map and the idol associated with it at the Millennials' camp on Day 11 while Jay found a third one at the Ikabula camp.

Adam located one last Hidden Immunity Idol on Day 37, using it but failing to negate any votes.

Additionally, the Legacy Advantage acted as an Idol (willed to Ken after Jessica's elimination). Further, David crafted a fake idol, used by Jay on Day 36, that became something of a classic "Survivor" moment when Jeff acknowledged it as counterfeit at Tribal Council and tossed it into the fire.
10. Who was the Sole Survivor and the winner of "Survivor: Millennials vs. Gen X"?

Answer: Adam

After thirty-nine days, the final Tribal Council was held and Adam, Hannah, and Ken pleaded their cases to the jury of ten eliminated before them at every Tribal since the merge. Although all three were heavily criticized by a jury angry for the slights against them over the course of the game, it was Adam's emotional final arguments that sealed the reward, giving him a unanimous vote for the million dollar prize when all was said and done. Adam became the fifth "Survivor" winner to achieve this feat.
