Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. In the beginning of this season, how many members were on each tribe?

Answer: Eight

In the beginning of the game, the sixteen castaways entered the Jalapćo region of Brazil in the back of a truck. With them, they could find all the supplies they'd need and their tribe flags. Eight of the people, each wearing red buffs, were part of the Jalapao tribe while the other eight, all wearing black, were Timbira.

When Jeff told them that the game had begun, they were allowed to finally speak to one another, having made their first impressions, and they were able to salvage what they could.
2. How did some of the castaways make it to their camp on the first day?

Answer: By helicopter

After the initial scramble of claiming items to start the game, Jeff informed the castaways that two of them, one from each tribe, would not be making the four hour trip to the campsite. At that point, everyone made their first votes in the game. Jalapao voted Sandy while Timbira voted Sierra. Jeff informed the two that they would not be taking the four hour trip to camp but they would still be participating.

Instead, they'd be taken by helicopter to their respective camps. This posed a problem; these two needed to figure out how to make up ground in the social game.

Not only that, but they could hunt for a Hidden Immunity Idol when they arrived!
3. Before the merge, two people were sent to Exile Island after Reward Challenges.

Answer: True

On Day 5, when the tribes went to their second Immunity Challenge, they were told that they would also be competing to send someone out to Exile Island. When Jalapao won the Immunity Idol they decided to send Brendan off to Exile Island before Jeff informed everyone that the person sent would be allowed to take one member of the winning tribe along for the trip, returning to the game before Tribal Council (though normally this would be just before Immunity Challenges). Both, upon their arrival, were given rice, flint, and steel.

They were also required to choose an urn; one contained a clue to the hidden idol and an offer to join the other tribe while the other contained nothing.
4. Who was sent to Exile Island the most during the course of the game?

Answer: Taj

Throughout the game, Taj was sent a total of four times while Brendan and Stephen were both sent three times and Erinn was sent once. Before the merge, one member of each tribe was sent to 'the island', while after the merge only one was sent; this person was selected by the sole winner of the Reward Challenge.

The early decision to send Taj and Brendan to Exile cemented an early cross-tribal alliance between the two. Like in previous seasons, the tribes opted to send the same people to the island to reduce the spread of clues to Hidden Immunity Idols.
5. When the merge finally occurred, what tribe name did the castaways take on?

Answer: Forza

The tribes combined with unequal numbers on Day 19 when they assumed they were competing for a reward. Instead, they had the customary merge feast and union festivities culminating in the selection of their name; they chose 'Forza', a rough translation of the Portuguese word for 'Strength'.

They returned to Timbira and donned green buffs. This was the first time in several years that tribes were merged without any swaps, switches or special circumstances getting in the way.
6. Who was eliminated from "Survivor: Tocantins" due to an injury?

Answer: Joe

Although Joe hurt his leg before the merge, cutting it during an earlier challenge while a member of Jalapao, the effects of a subsequent infection (brought on by the poor living conditions) ended up worsening his chances of continuing on with the game. On Day 20, after the first Immunity Challenge, Joe received medical attention and was deemed unfit to remain in the Tocantins or else he would face a very large chance of amputation.

There was no Tribal Council and Tyson's immunity was null and void.
7. Who was the only castaway eliminated based on a vote that wasn't the majority of the tribe?

Answer: Brendan

On Day 24, during the merged tribe's first Tribal Council (considering the medical evacuation days earlier), the Forza tribe needed to eliminate one of their members but seemed to be divided along too many alliance lines. While Brendan was eliminated from the game, he only received four of the nine votes cast during the ceremony; three went to Sierra and two went to Coach.

This was the only occasion in the entire season where a player was voted out without the majority casting the vote (although there were several occasions where the votes were split three ways).

He became the first member of the jury.
8. After the merge, how many Reward Challenges were enjoyed just by a single person?

Answer: None

After the merge, there were a total of five different Reward Challenges and a Survivor Auction (as is typical of most seasons). Although one person won the Reward Challenge, on many occasions they were allowed to bring one or two people along with them for the event. Rewards this season included a stay at the Governor's Retreat, a visit to a thermindoro, and a whitewater rafting trip. Earlier Reward Challenges this season were for camp luxuries for the respective tribes.

As well, J.T. was able to enjoy all four individual rewards.
9. How many castaways were part of the jury in this season?

Answer: Seven

Although other seasons before this one featured juries of eight or nine members, this season returned to the original norm of only seven jury members. The jury started populating itself beginning with the second person out after the merge (Joe) and also included Brendan, Sierra, Tyson, Debbie, Coach, Taj, and Erin. All of these except for Taj were originally Timbira members which is odd considering they went into the merge with the majority.
10. Who was the Sole Survivor of "Survivor: Tocantins"?

Answer: J.T.

After thirty-nine days in Brazil, J.T. won the title of Sole Survivor over Stephen during the final vote because he was deemed more deserving and more honest during the game. For the first time in "Survivor" history, a castaway won the game without a single vote cast against them at previous Tribal Councils and the decision was unanimous; all seven jury members decided to vote for J.T. to win the million dollars. J.T. would later appear with Coach and Tyson in "Survivor: Heroes vs. Villains".
