Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. This season had three different tribes to start the game. How many castaways commenced this season?

Answer: Eighteen

Eighteen Americans were split into three tribes of six on Day 1 of "Worlds Apart" when they were driven into the jungle and left on a beach for introductions. This season it was very apparent the direction they were heading for this social experiment.

The yellow-buffed team, Masaya, would be composed of six different white-collar executives; the blue-buffed Escameca tribe would take in six castaways, each of which was (coincidentally) a blue-collar worker; the red-buffed tribe was the free-spirited, rule-breaking Nagarote tribe, effectively 'no collar'.

After a bit of back and forth, they were given maps and sent to their camps.
2. On their first day at camp, certain castaways had the opportunity to choose to be honest or deceitful, choosing between the location of a Hidden Immunity Idol and which of these as a treat for the tribe?

Answer: Beans

Before heading to their camps, all three tribes were asked to choose one person to represent their groups based on first impressions (Masaya chose Joaquin, Escameca chose Dan, and Nagarote chose Will). The tribes were then asked to pick a second member to accompany the first (Masaya chose So, Escameca chose Mike, and Nagarote chose Jenn). Upon arriving at the camps, these pairs needed to separate from the rest to make a decision between 'Honesty' and 'Deceit'. If they chose 'Honesty', they could bring a bag of beans back to their tribemates, but if they chose 'Deceit', they would get a smaller bag of rice and a clue to a Hidden Immunity Idol. Only Joaquin and So chose Deceit.

They didn't find the Idol though; Carolyn did, and on Day 1 too.
3. During a Reward Challenge on Day 9, Kelly was injured by a platform resulting in the need for several stitches. Was she pulled from the game on this account?

Answer: No

Most challenge injuries would normally result in an evacuation from the game (as has happened in the past). The Reward Challenge on Day 9, which used four members from each tribe, was the classic 'blindfolded call and hunt' seen in previous seasons. While the challenge went on as could be expected, the raised platform used to move items up to the caller ended up falling on Kelly's head; it required an immediate halt of the challenge and medical was called in.

She required several stitches as a result but she didn't get pulled from the game despite the severity of the wound. Kelly would make it to the merge but would be the first eliminated at that stage, narrowly missing out on being a part of the jury.
4. Day 12 saw a tribal swap occur. What tribe was dissolved at this event?

Answer: Masaya

Day 12 saw a Reward Challenge, but before revisiting the slingshot challenge seen in past seasons, the three tribes were told to drop their buffs as, going forward, they would be shifted into two tribes of seven-- Escameca and Nagarote in blue and red buffs, respectively. Teams returned to those two specific camps to play out the rest of that portion of the game (which lasted only five days before the merge).

The resulting tribal swap worked against the original Masaya tribe since two of their original members, Max and Joaquin, were eliminated in back-to-back Tribal Councils.

Interestingly, the swap led four Escameca tribe members to remain together on their tribe and three Nagarote tribe members to stay on theirs. The new Escameca also took in six men while Nagarote had five women.
5. What was the elected name of this season's merged tribe?

Answer: Merica

Tree mail arrived on Day 17 and the two tribes headed out with ambiguous clues to what lay ahead. Uniting just off the beach at a normal challenge spot, Escameca and Nagarote came together for the typical feast, taking on new black and blue buffs. Following the feast, the castaways returned to the old Escameca camp to find that their entire setup had been torn apart.

They started from scratch for fire, water, and a shelter to get to know each other as a full tribe of twelve. Mike chose the tribe name Merica because it took on white (collar), blue (collar), and the no collar tribe, which used red.
6. This season, all used Hidden Immunity Idols were used to successfully save their finders.

Answer: True

This season featured three Hidden Immunity Idols, each hidden at one of the three original camps. The first was used immediately after the merge on Day 19 when Jenn used it on herself to spare receiving seven votes, saving her and sending Kelly home.

The move allowed her to survive in the game for another week. Mike was next to use his, doing so on Day 32 to block a majority of votes and send Tyler home; he found his after the merge on Day 21. Carolyn was the last, protecting herself from a majority as well on Day 35 to get Dan sent home.

This was the first season in which all found idols were used to successfully save their original finders.
7. Day 35 saw the use of what unique, new game mechanic?

Answer: Double vote

On Day 25, the castaways attended this season's auction and three of them vied for the potential 'game-changing advantage', paying $480 for a chance at it. Dan, Carolyn, and Mike drew rocks to claim it; Dan won, discovering that his advantage was a second vote at a single Tribal Council in the future.

He needed to announce its use before Jeff tallied the votes on that given Tribal Council for it to work. Tyler eventually found it in his bag on Day 29, notifying Carolyn, but it took until Day 35 for him to use it in an attempt to send Carolyn home.

When she used her Hidden Immunity Idol, it didn't matter.
8. Which castaway won the most Individual Immunity Challenges in this season?

Answer: Mike

This season, only four castaways ended up donning the Individual Immunity Necklace, a relative low in terms of spread. Five of those wins ended up going to Mike, who dominated them for the bulk of the latter half of the game. Joe and Carolyn both had the necklace twice with the former eliminated as soon as it wasn't in his possession. Mike also ended up partaking in four of the six Individual Reward Challenges. On one of the rare occasions when Mike didn't have the Immunity Necklace, Day 32, he used a Hidden Immunity Idol to protect himself, negating four votes and avoiding his elimination.
9. The Tribal Council for the final four involved which of these rarely-seen events?

Answer: Fire-making challenge

Following the season's final Immunity Challenge, the final four headed into Tribal Council with the opportunity to remove someone via the vote or split the vote into a tie. Since the latter occurred, it forced both Rodney and Carolyn into sudden death, ultimately leading to a fire-making challenge that would put the winner into the final three.

As neither competitor had spent much time making fires at camp, their battle took nearly an hour before anyone finished. Both needed new flints to continue on with the challenge, Carolyn breaking two and Rodney asking for more.

In the end, Carolyn was the one to finish, building up a fire to break the rope in fifty-three minutes and sending Rodney to the jury.
10. Which castaway was the Sole Survivor of "Survivor: Worlds Apart"?

Answer: Mike

On Day 39, after a finalist feast, a final three of Mike, Carolyn, and Will made their way back to Tribal Council to face off against the eight members of the jury they'd voted out. This time around, much deliberation was held around honesty, worthiness, and social capability.

Although all three finalists received at least one vote, Mike ended up the runaway winner with a total of six votes to the others' single votes. Mike joined a small group of "Survivor" players who managed to take five Individual Immunity Challenge wins on top of the million dollar prize as the Sole Survivor of "Worlds Apart".
