Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. U is for the show about a good-hearted young woman working in the cut-throat world of fashion. It was originally produced as a telenovela soap opera before it came to ABC. What show was this?

Answer: Ugly Betty

"Ugly Betty" ran on ABC from 2006-2010 with American actor America Ferrera in the title role as poor Betty surrounded by big snobs. By the way, America Ferrara earned a BA in International Relations from USC in 2013.
2. V is for the first bilingual children's show on PBS in the 1970s. What show with the catchy opening was this?

Answer: Villa Alegre!

"Do do-do ta-do de-do ta-do da-do da do Villa Alegre!" If you caught this show, which has been in syndication since it went out of production in 1980, then you probably remember the opening tune. The show was set in a mixed Mexican-American village and was the first national Spanish/English program.
3. W is for the critically-acclaimed show about an inner city high school basketball team and its former NBA-player coach. What show starring Ken Howard as Coach Reeves was this?

Answer: The White Shadow

Ahhh, they don't make them like "The White Shadow" from 1978-1981 anymore. Realistic, gritty, it had story lines on teen pregnancy, racism, drug addiction, and more.
4. X is for this show starring Lucy Lawless about a warrior trying to make up for past sins by helping people in need. What fantasy show was this?

Answer: Xena: Warrior Princess

"Xena" launched the international career of New Zealand actor Lucy Lawless. Set primarily but not exclusively in ancient Greece, "Xena" often shows up on lists of all-time favorite cult shows. It ran in syndication from 1995-2001.
5. Y is for this edu-tainment show created by George Lucas, based on one of his movie franchises. What was the name of this short-lived show?

Answer: The Young Indiana Jones Chronicles

"The Young Indiana Jones Chronicles" had so much promise: a built-in audience of fans of the hugely popular "Indiana Jones" movies, 12 Emmy Awards, and a genius executive producer. Alas, it languished in the ratings and lasted just one season. There were some follow-up TV movies but the show was off the air for good.
6. Z is for this great children's show from the '70s and revived in the '90s. What show was this?

Answer: Zoom

The high-energy "Zoom" captivated young audiences 1972-1978. It always ended with a request for mail: "Write Zoom, Z-Double-O-M, Box 3-5-0, Boston, Mass 0-2-1-3-4: send it to Zoom!"
7. We are out of letters of the alphabet! So now, let's double up. For example, A.A. is for this Margaret Cho sitcom from 1994. What show was this?

Answer: All American Girl

"All American Girl" was supposed to be the vehicle for San Francisco comic Margaret Cho, whose stories about growing up Korean-American made her a fan favorite. But the show was muted to appeal to a broad audience, Margaret was a lot less funny, and "All American Girl" was off the air after just 19 episodes in 1994-1995.
8. B.B. is for this classic Sherwood Schwartz sitcom about a blended family: two parents, six kids, and a maid named Alice. What silly sitcom was this?

Answer: The Brady Bunch

Can't have a television quiz without "The Brady Bunch", can we? Highly popular with fans, very unpopular with critics, "The Brady Bunch" was an American household staple from 1969-1974 and for many years after in syndication.

"Here's the story,
Of a lovely lady,
Who was bringing up three very lovely girls.
All of them had hair of gold,
Like their mother,
The youngest one in curls.

Here's the story,
Of a man named Brady,
Who was busy with three boys of his own.
They were four men,
Living all together, but they were all alone.

Till the one day when the lady met this fellow,
and they knew they was much more than a hunch.
That this group,
Must somehow form a family.
That's the way we all became the Brady Bunch,
The Brady Bunch, the Brady Bunch
That's the way we became the Brady Bunch."
9. Let's leave the '70s and get a little more modern. C.C. is for this one-hour crime drama about Philadelphia police solving old cases, relying mostly on low-tech footwork rather than high-end forensic science. What show was this?

Answer: Cold Case

"Cold Case" starred Kathryn Morris as Lily Rush, a determined police detective trying to right old wrongs. She had a semi-supernatural habit of seeing the long-gone victims at the end of each show. "Cold Case" ran on CBS 2003-2010.
10. D.D. is for this one-hour program by a famous journalist who portrayed crimes by the rich and/or famous. What was this clumsily-named show which ran on CourtTV?

Answer: Dominick Dunne: Power, Privilege and Justice

Dominic Dunne, a WWII veteran, covered celebrity crime stories for Vanity Fair and other publications. He was very involved in the O.J. Simpson trial, in particular. He hosted this show for CourtTV/truTV from 2002-2009. The bigger they are, he'd say, the longer they'd fall, and that makes for interesting news.
