10. The FOX series "Cops" has been referred to as the first "reality based" television program to air in America. The series aired its first episode in May of 1990.

Answer: False

"Cops", one of the longest running series on the FOX Network premiered on Saturday, March 14, 1989.
The series gave viewers an up-close look at the day to day activities of law enforcement officers as they performed their duties.
For the series, a cameraman and a sound technician accompanied police officers and sheriff's deputies through their routine daily activities.
The commentary was unscripted, and provided by the officers themselves.

The series was created by John Langley and Malcolm Barbour. In the original format, the show covered both the home and work lives of the officers. Because the stories involving the personal lives of the officers appeared somewhat "artificial" in the eyes of Langley, the format was changed during the first season to reflect only the on-duty activities of the featured peace officers.

On September 30, 2007, the series began it's 20th season on the air. The show is accented by its signature theme song, "Bad Boys", performed by Jamaican Raggae group, "Inner Circle".

Each episode of the series ends while an actual police radio broadcast is heard as the shows credits rolled. The radio broadcast was, "132 on Bush, I've got him at Gunpoint. O.K. gunpoint, 132 on Bush, cover is code 3". The radio broadcast was originated by a Los Angeles County Deputy Sheriff, assigned to the Lakewood Station, and a sheriff's department communications operator. The deputy, responding to a radio call of a "prowler" was first on-scene, and caught the suspect red handed. The broadcast by the deputy advised the communications dispatcher of her situation. The operator acknowledged the transmission then informed that another sheriff's unit to assist her (cover) was responding to the location using red lights and siren (code 3). The radio designation used by the deputy (132) identified a unit assigned to the Lakewood Sheriff's Office (13) and the number of the geographic beat (2).
