Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. What mode of transportation moved teams around Rottnest Island?

Answer: Tandem bikes

In the beginning of leg 9, teams departed from Jabreen Castle in Oman and had to catch a flight to Perth, Australia, more than nine thousand miles away. When the route to the airport is blocked due to a visit from the king, teams get bunched up at the airport and all make it onto the same flight. Once in Perth, teams had to take taxis to the State War Memorial in King's Park.

After this, teams were told to travel to Fremantle and take a ferry to Rottnest Island.
2. How many crayfish did teams need to catch before receiving their clue in the 'Sea' Detour task of Leg 9?

Answer: Two

Once at Rottnest Island, teams boarded their tandem bikes and traveled three miles to a lighthouse for their next clue. This clue, the Detour, told teams to bike to Salmon Bay and choose between 'Sand' or 'Sea'. In 'Sea', both team members needed to change into swimsuits and both needed to collect a crayfish from underwater traps in the ocean. Teams could search more than fifty potential traps, but only a certain amount contained crayfish. Jeremy and Eric and Joseph and Monica completed this task.
3. Which team did not complete the 'Sand' Detour task of Leg 9?

Answer: Joseph and Monica

In the 'Sand' Detour task, teams needed to transport forty large branches one hundred and twenty-six yards to a marked sand dune down the beach. Once the teams finished 'brushing the beach', they would receive their next clue. Three teams completed this task while two completed the 'Sea' Detour task.

After this, teams were instructed to travel back to Fremantle by ferry and find their clue at Fremantle Prison.
4. Who did not compete in the Road Block of Leg 9 at Fremantle Prison?

Answer: BJ

When teams arrived at Fremantle Prison, they found their Road Block for the ninth leg of the race. In this Road Block, one team member needed to go to Division 4 of the prison and find a flashlight. After this, they needed to find the entrance to an underground cave that connects the prison to underground tunnels. Underground, teams could either ride a canoe through the tunnels or walk through the dry tunnels. Once they found their hidden clue, they could resurface and return to their teammate. Jeremy, Joseph, Yolanda, Tyler, and Fran completed this task.
5. Which team was eliminated in Leg 9?

Answer: Fran and Barry

After the Road Block, teams were told to go one and a half miles to the Pit Stop at Fremantle Sailing Club. Jeremy and Eric finished the Road Block first, and arrived at the Pit Stop the earliest. Once again, they won a prize, and this time it was a trip to Hong Kong.

In the end, Ray and Yolanda squeaked into fourth place and Fran and Barry became the seventh team eliminated from the race.
6. Which city did teams travel to in Leg 10?

Answer: Darwin

In the beginning of Leg 10, teams traveled 12 miles to the Swan Bells tower. When it opened at 8:00am, teams were instructed to fly to Darwin, Australia more than 1,700 miles away. Once there, teams needed to take a marked car to a crocodile farm and wade through a pool of crocodiles for their next clue. On the way to the airport, teams canceled each other's cabs and began to play the game dirty.
7. Which team used the Yield in Leg 10?

Answer: BJ and Tyler

When the crocodile farm opened at 9:00am, teams received their clue after wading through the crocodile pool. Teams drove to the town of Batchelor nearly fifty miles away in order to find an airfield containing their next clue. On the way, teams were warned of the Yield, and when they arrived, BJ and Tyler yielded Monica and Joseph as soon as they arrived. Meanwhile, other teams obtained their clues.

This was the second of two Yields in the race.
8. Which team member completed the skydiving Road Block in Leg 10?

Answer: BJ

At the airfield, teams had to choose one member to choose a plane and reach a height of 12,000 feet. At this height, the team member had to tandem skydive. After this, teams received their next clue telling them to drive to Litchfield National Park, nearly twenty miles away. Once there, teams needed to find the phenomenon known as the Magnetic Termite Mounds.
9. During the Detour in Leg 10, teams could choose between 'Dry' and what other task?

Answer: Wet

During the Detour, teams could choose between 'Wet' and 'Dry'. In 'Dry', teams needed to drive six miles to an intersection, then off-road six miles to what locals call the Lost City. There, they needed to take a didgeridoo, and find an aboriginal nearby with a matching didgeridoo, and they would be taught to play one note. Once they played the one note, they'd receive their clue. Ray and Yolanda and Joseph and Monica completed this task. In 'Wet', teams needed to drive six miles to a roadside park and hike and swim one mile down a river with deadly spiders and poisonous plants. Once teams finished their trek, they'd receive their clue. BJ and Tyler and Eric and Jeremy completed this task.
10. Which team was last to arrive at the Pit Stop in Leg 10?

Answer: BJ and Tyler

After the Detour, teams were instructed to go to the Pit Stop at the Lake Bennett Wilderness Resort. Since Ray and Yolanda were the first team to arrive, they won a one year lease for a new SUV. The remaining three teams remained neck in neck until they reached the Pit Stop, but in the end, Eric and Jeremy and Joseph and Monica came in second and third respectively, and BJ and Tyler ended in fourth. Luckily, the leg ended with no elimination, but BJ and Tyler lost everything but the clothes on their backs.
