Answer: Michael

Sam and Dean discussed the painting of Michael with the priest. This episode from season 2 provided some fun hints for the future. The plot had people who believed an angel was telling them to kill bad people. It was actually the spirit of a murdered priest. Sam was willing to believe it was an angel until he was proven wrong. Dean did not have faith that it could be an angel.

It is interesting to view this episode and then view the first couple episodes of season 4, when the brothers encounter an actual angel.

Anna and Dean had their romantic encounter in the backseat of the Impala during "Heaven and Hell". Before that happened, she told him she knew what he had done during his time in the pit. He got choked up and told her he could not talk about it. She told him he had people to help when he was ready. Over the next few episodes, he began opening up to his brother.

Answer: Castiel

Castiel was the one that freed Sam in "When the Levee Breaks". Dean and Bobby assumed it was probably Ruby that did so.

Castiel and the Winchesters discovered that Balthazar stole a bunch of artifacts from Heaven in the midst of the civil war. This revelation occurred in "The Third Man" after several police officers were killed by a child using a piece of the staff that he had bought from Balthazar by selling his soul.

Uriel did this in "On the Head of a Pin". The episode masterfully presented one revelation after another. First, Alastair told Dean that Dean was the one that broke the first seal when he spilled blood in the pit. Then, Castiel saw Sam had become strong enough to kill Alastair. Castiel realized that angels must have sabotaged the Devil's trap, and Uriel had betrayed him.

Castiel's vessel was Jimmy Novak. He briefly inhabited Jimmy's daughter, Claire, during "The Rapture" as well.

The archangel Gabriel said this several times. When Sam and Dean encountered him in "Tall Tales" and "Mystery Spot", they thought he was a trickster. They discovered at the end of "Changing Channels" that he was actually the archangel Gabriel.

Zachariah did this to show Dean what would happen if he did not say "yes" to Michael. In the future, though, Dean realized that the five-years-older Dean had lost his humanity while he was separated from his brother, and his brother was a vessel for Lucifer. Therefore, when he returned from the future, he contacted Sam, rather than saying "yes" to Michael.

Gabriel killed Dean over 100 times in "Mystery Spot". During the episode, Sam and Dean still thought he was a trickster, but they later learned his true identity in "Changing Channels".

Balthazar explained his actions this way in "My Heart Will Go On". His rant against the movie, song, and Celine Dion was pretty entertaining. However, it was later revealed that he did this to create 50,000 new souls for Castiel's war machine.

Anna killed Sam in that episode. The archangel Michael inhabited John's body, killed Anna, had a chat with Dean, and brought Sam back.

Lucifer summoned Death in this episode. This was also the episode in which Jo and Ellen were killed, and the Winchesters found out that the colt revolver would not kill the Devil.

Castiel killed Balthazar when he discovered that Balthazar had led Dean to him. After taking in all the souls in Purgatory, Castiel also killed Raphael.

When Dean refused to permit Michael to use him, Michael convinced Dean's half brother Adam to say "yes". The battle was thwarted by Sam though. Dean (with a little help from the memories brought back by the Impala) was able to get through to Sam. Sam then opened the door to Lucifer's cage and let himself fall into the cage with Lucifer inside him, and dragged along Michael and Adam when Michael tried to stop him.

Answer: Meg

Castiel said this after kissing Meg in "Caged Heat". It was a reference to a scene earlier in the episode when the angel found himself watching a pornographic movie, and speculating aloud as to the motivations of the characters. The only thing funnier than Castiel's confusion was Sam and Dean's reaction.
