"The Blacklist", Season One Trivia Quiz

For my money, the TV show "The Blacklist" is one of the best shows on TV. It stars James Spader as outlaw Raymond "Red" Reddington and Megan Boone as profiler Elizabeth Keen. This quiz will test how much you know about season one of this hit show.

Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. The first episode of the series ("Pilot") is the only episode name that isn't also the name of a bad guy. What is the name of the man Red wants to take down in this episode?

Answer: Ranko Zamani

Red turns himself in to the FBI, claiming that he has compiled a list of bad guys of whom the FBI isn't aware. He calls this list "The Blacklist." Zamani, the man who wants to use a chemical weapon to execute a terrorist attack on the visitors of the Washington D.C. Zoo, is the first villain that Red and the FBI take down. All other options are from season two.
2. In the episode "The Freelancer", what does Red do in Montreal?

Answer: Hires The Freelancer to kill someone for him

The name of the target is Floriana Campo, the leader of the one of the most notorious human trafficking cartels, the Eberhardt Cartel. Even though she is the cartel leader, she is thought of by the public as a human rights activist who fights against cartels like those.

At a charity gala held by Campo, The Freelancer is caught by the FBI and tells them (after a little persuasion) that Red hired him. Agent Ressler puts it together that in Montreal, Red didn't receive the name of the target, but was in fact "signaling the hit."
3. What strange affliction does The Courier have that helps him do his job?

Answer: Congenital Analgesia (The inability to feel physical pain)

Because he has this disease he can cut himself open and hide things in his body, where nobody would think to look. Among these items include a "Proof of life" video of an NSA programmer who has been taken hostage, and apparently a convenient set of tools for getting out of handcuffs.

The Courier gets arrested, but escapes and needs to be re-found. He is, but he fights back as much as he can and has to be killed to be taken down.
4. In the episode "Gina Zanetakos", Gina is arrested by the FBI. Later on in the season, it is revealed that she did what?

Answer: Escaped custody

In the episode "Berlin", Liz says that the FBI can question Zanetakos to find out more about Tom. Red had told Liz earlier on that Gina was Tom's lover, so Liz figures that Gina may know about Tom's actions. She is told that Zanetakos escaped during a work furlough and is in the wind.
5. In what episode is the viewer introduced to Alan Fitch?

Answer: "Anslo Garrick: Conclusion"

At the end of the episode, all the viewer knows is that Fitch is part of an extremely powerful organization, and that he and Red have some sort of deal involving Red preserving the anonymity of Fitch's organization in exchange for the organization letting him live.
6. There are multiple moles responsible for Anslo Garrick's incursion at the Post Office. Who is the mole inside the FBI?

Answer: Diane Fowler

Aram and Meera are both suspected at one point of being the "inside man" in the Bureau. Newton Phillips is a mole responsible for the incursion, but he is a mole inside Red's organization, not the FBI. Red kills Phillips and Fowler, a not-unreasonable response to them causing him to be abducted and tortured.
7. In "Madeline Pratt", Red offers to take Pratt to the capital of what Latin American country?

Answer: Honduras

This question was more to make sure that you were paying attention. If you realized I was asking for the country rather than the city (even though Red mentioned the city) all you had to was match the city (Tegucigalpa) to the country.
8. The Pavlovich Brothers are the only bad guys that appear in two episodes, but only as the "featured villains," that is to say the main targets, once. What other episode do they appear in as hired help for the Blacklister of the week?

Answer: "Pilot", as the people who abduct the General's daughter

The Brothers are also some of the only Blacklisters that season who are recruited by Red. Red hires The Freelancer to kill Floriana Campo, and hires these guys to abduct Tom so Liz could ask him some questions. Unfortunately, Liz breaks Tom's thumb in the interrogation, and since Liz has him handcuffed, Tom is able to use his broken thumb to escape. Tom: "If you're going to handcuff someone, don't break their thumb."
9. In "Berlin", what is Dr. Sanders referring to when he talks about the "Five Horsemen?"

Answer: Five people infected with the Cullen Virus

Dr. Nikolaus Vogel infects five people with the Cullen Virus and threatens to withhold the antidote if they don't help him break Berlin out of custody. Once Vogel gets five people to play along, he enacts his plan, which would have been successful had the FBI not figured out that he was trying to help Berlin escape a plane at the airport. Even though the plan is not successful, Berlin's plane crashes at the end of the episode.

It is revealed in the next episode that Berlin was able to escape the crashed plane.
10. By the end of season one, what is known about Tom (Elizabeth's husband)?

Answer: He is a spy for Berlin

You didn't think we'd get through a quiz on "The Blacklist" without a question on Tom, did you? Ever since the pilot episode in which Liz discovers Tom's hidden compartment, her relationship with her husband wasn't as trusting as before, even though Tom is at first able to explain away the compartment's existence. Eventually Liz realizes that Tom is lying, causing Tom to run away an episode later.

At the end of the season, Liz fights with Tom and shoots him.
