Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. What was the name of Hopper's daughter?

Answer: Sarah

The cops arrive at the Byers household to inform Joyce and Jonathan of their son's body being found in the quarry. Hopper tells Joyce that the ground must have given way and he must have drowned. Will, she says, could not have died because he was talking to her in the house a half hour earlier. Something chased her, crawling through the wall though.

When they check the wall, nothing is wrong. Hopper tries to reassure her that the same thing happened when his daughter, Sarah, died. Joyce says that she doesn't feel grief; she's not crazy. Hopper tells her to get some rest; she can come to the station the following day.

He stays on the property in his truck.
2. Eleven is able to use Mike's walkie-talkie to listen to Will. What is Will doing on the other side?

Answer: Singing

While Jonathan cries, listening to music in his bed, Joyce stays awake and heads to the shed to grab an axe. Returning to the house with it, she decides to stay on the couch, awake and armed.
Mike's family watches the news report about Will's body while Mike sits in the basement, hiding out with Eleven. While she plays with a walkie-talkie, he complains that she misled him into believing Will was okay, which wouldn't be what friends do. Soon, however, Eleven gets the walkie-talkie to work, and they listen as Will sings "Should I Stay or Should I Go" on the other end of the transmission.
3. Where does Will have a birthmark?

Answer: Arm

Joyce wakes up in the morning to a vision of Will, but it's actually Jonathan waking her; they have to see Will's body.
Karen wakes Mike up at home and he takes the day home from school while she runs errands. He pretends to be sick, but when she leaves he uses the walkie to contact Lucas. They all need to convene.
Hopper ends up at the coroner's to discover that someone from state ended up taking over the autopsy. The usual coroner was sent home early the previous night. While Joyce investigates the body, Jonathan and Hopper wonder about her anxiety. Unfortunately, there's a bit of an issue. Joyce doesn't believe the body is her son.
4. What does Nancy believe she saw in the woods?

Answer: A person with no face

Nancy tells Steve that she visited his house looking for Barb and, while in the woods, saw what looked to be a man with a mask, only instead of a mask he may not have had a face. She's not quite sure what it was, but she felt horribly frightened. Steve isn't concerned with Barb being missing; he's worried that he's in trouble.
Jonathan tries to get his mother into the car but she's altogether frazzled. She vows not to stop looking for her real son, but Jonathan says he has to get him out of the freezer.
Lucas and Dustin have trouble believing that they can hear Will on the walkie-talkie but they may not have a strong enough radio. They decide that the ham radio at school is the best option, but getting Eleven inside the school is the real issue.
5. To disguise Eleven, the boys find which of the following amongst the items at Mike's house?

Answer: Wig

To get Eleven into the school, the boys put their problem solving to good use by borrowing Nancy's makeup and getting a wig and some odds and ends of clothes. The disguise allows her to blend in a bit more; Mike suggests she looks 'pretty....good'.
Under the Hawkins labs, the matter on the wall seems to have expanded a great deal, and a scientist, Sheppard, hooks himself into a winch. Heading up to the wall, he tears his way in and passes into the threshold (while the wall repairs itself behind him).
Nancy, listening to "Heart of Darkness" in her English class, is called away by the police to discuss Barb's disappearance. She tells the police what she saw, but they never saw anything when they went back. Even her car had disappeared.
6. The boys, pretending Eleven is Eleanor, say that she comes from what country?

Answer: Sweden

Hopper interviews the coroner about the previous night and discusses the six state officers who relieved him of his post when he came in to perform the autopsy on Will Byers. The boys and Eleven, meanwhile, bike off to the school and sneak off to the audio visual room during an assembly for Will.

They find it locked, but Mr. Clark gives them the key, allowing them to spend time alone for the day for Will's sake. They get around needing to explain too much about Eleven, instead giving her the name Eleanor and pretending she's from Sweden.

They're still, however, forced to go to the assembly.
7. Something besides Barb is in the photo Nancy snagged from Jonathan's collection.

Answer: True

Karen is furious with Nancy for lying about what she and Steve were doing at the party and doesn't understand why she felt the need to lie, but she can't seem to get her daughter to open up to her. Nancy is more worried that something horrible has happened to Barb.

She's right. Heading to her room, Nancy opens her bag and looks at the torn-up picture she took from Jonathan showing Barb on the diving board. Putting the pieces together, it's clear something is out there. The scientists try to contact Sheppard on the other side of the wall and they get through, but it's clear something is wrong.

His connection fizzles out as something locates him. They try to pull him out, but something snags the line and tears him from it. When it's reeled back in, nothing remains.

The wall reforms itself.
8. Nancy goes looking for Jonathan to ask him about his photo. Where does she find him?

Answer: Funeral home

The kids get out of their assembly and, after hearing the bullies make snarky comments, Mike decides to call them out for rudeness. Starting a fight, Mike pushes one of the bullies down and before he can do anything about it, Eleven stops him mid-punch and forces him to urinate himself in front of the auditorium.
Jonathan tries to take charge and heads to the funeral home to shop for Will's coffin, but he's interrupted by Nancy, who already stopped by the Byers house. She asks to talk and shows him the photo, but he can't explain the distortion. He didn't see anything since she just disappeared. She tells Jonathan about the man in the woods, and when she mentions he didn't have a face, he starts to draw the lines.
Hopper does a bit of investigation, going undercover and heading to a local bar for a drink and to get some info from the state trooper who found Will's body. He's able to discern that the man lied about a bit of stuff, and something is clearly amiss. He takes the man out back and beats him for info. The trooper tells him she was just told to phone in the body. When Hopper looks back, a nearby car drives off. Someone's watching him.
9. Is Eleven able to connect to Will via the ham radio?

Answer: Yes

Joyce tries to provoke Will into talking by playing The Clash and checking her lights. He doesn't respond.
At the school, the kids try the ham radio and Eleven does her best to try and connect to his wavelength. She remembers her work in the labs, being told to locate a man based on his picture and know what he was saying in another room. Instead, she connected to him through an intercom, relaying the message directly from him. It comes as no surprise that she can connect to something. It sounds like banging and Will yelling for his mother. The kids hear the same thing that Joyce can.
Joyce hears him through the wall and peels at the wallpaper to, to her shock, find Will screaming from the other side as something pursues him. She vows to get him out, but he has to run to protect himself. She watches as the wall heals itself shut in front of her.
10. What does Hopper find inside Will's presumed corpse in the autopsy room?

Answer: Cotton stuffing

Taking an axe, Joyce fights to break through her living room wall but only ends up tearing through to the other side, leaving a gaping hole in the front of her house.
Eleven accidentally sets fire to the ham radio by sparking it with her powers, leading to a school evacuation when the fire alarm goes off.
Nancy and Jonathan head to the darkroom to develop another photo from his reel and he explains that photography is what he likes the most; it's a good way for him to observe people without needing to interact with them. The photo develops and they have an enhanced shot of whatever creature stalked Barb. Jonathan finally believes his mother.
Hopper returns to the coroner's office to find a state trooper guarding the autopsy room. He punches him out and heads inside to look at the body but when he pulls it out of the freezer there's something wrong. No autopsy was performed. He decide to take the plunge and, cutting into it, he finds the corpse filled with cotton stuffing.
At the Byers household, Lonnie makes his arrival.
Hopper, taking a wire cutter, starts to break into the restricted perimeter of the Hawkins lab.
