Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. In one of his earliest cameo appearances, Alex Trebek played himself on the classic sitcom "Cheers" (1990). Which character from the show appeared on "Jeopardy!"?

Answer: Cliff Claven

In the classic episode "What is.... Cliff Clavin?" know-it-all postman Cliff (John Ratzenberger) is chosen to appear on "Jeopardy!" He has a dream board, and racks up an incredible $20,000 lead against his opponents, only to blow it by wagering everything on the final question. Bad wagering during Final Jeopardy came to be known as "pulling a Clavin."

Cliff's incredibly bad response of "Who are three people who have never been in my kitchen?" has become a default bad answer for trivia players everywhere.

At the end of the episode, Trebek visits the bar, where he lifts Cliff's spirits by suggesting that he would quit as the host of "Jeopardy!" but allows Cliff to talk him out of it. Afterwards, Trebek tells Norm "Cliff scares me." Peterson replies "You too, eh?"

While Diane Chambers would have been smart enough to be a contestant on "Jeopardy!" by the time of "What is... Cliff Clavin?" Shelly Long had left the show.

Since "Cheers" is part of the Westphal universe, "Jeopardy" is also part of the Westphal Universe. "What is, I just had my mind blown?"

Answer: Rosie Perez

Rosie Perez played the trivia obsessed Gloria Clemente, the girlfriend of Billy Hoyle (Woody Harrelson). Billy managed to get her a spot on the show by hustling a security guard on the set of "Jeopardy!" in a game of basketball. Gloria is described as a former disco queen from Brooklyn, New York. The episode is a classic "Rashomon" with the story of an alien abduction told from a variety of perspectives. Best line of the episode in an episode filled with great lines may be Dana Scully's "Mulder didn't say it WAS Alex Trebek, it was just somebody who looked incredibly like him."
