Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. What were the two words that the ninth Doctor and Rose kept encountering during their travels?

Answer: bad wolf

"Bad Wolf" was encountered scrawled on the Tardis. The words were mentioned or hinted at (in translation) in every episode. In the final episode of her first series, Rose finally discovered their origin.
2. What was the first Doctor's catch phrase?

Answer: "hmm"

The first Doctor, played by William Hartnell, said "hmm" a lot. It was a mannerism that was so prevalent that William Hartnell might not have been aware of it.
3. Which Doctors had a companion with a unisex-sounding name?

Answer: second, third, fifth, sixth, and seventh

The second Doctor's companion was Jamie - a name that is unisex. Also unisex are the names Jo (companion of the third Doctor), Peri (companion of the fifth and sixth Doctors), Mel, (companion of the sixth Doctor), and Ace, (companion of the seventh Doctor).
4. The tenth Doctor was played by David Tennant. Which actor who starred as the Doctor had an actor son named David?

Answer: Patrick Troughton - the second Doctor

David Troughton is a well-known actor. He guest-starred in one of the Peladon stories as King Peladon. By then Jon Pertwee had taken over Patrick Troughton's role as the Doctor.
5. Adric, the companion of the fourth and fifth Doctors, wore a badge. What award did it represent?

Answer: Excellence in mathematics

We were told that Adric had the badge for excellence in mathematics. In some stories we did see him helping the Doctor with measurements or calculations.
6. From which village did Mel, companion of the seventh Doctor, originate?

Answer: Pease Pottage

Pease Pottage is a village in West Sussex. It seems to be very small. Its name means "Pea Soup". The word "pease" is used mostly in the nursery rhyme "Pease porridge hot, pease porridge cold". Pottage is best known for its association with Jacob and Esau in the Old Testament.
7. Which Doctor wore a stick of celery on his lapel?

Answer: The fifth Doctor

The fifth Doctor had the celery. Not all the Doctors had lapel decorations, but many had recognisable props. For example, the fourth Doctor had a long scarf and a bag of jellybabies, the seventh had an umbrella with a distinctive handle and the second had a recorder.
8. What did the tenth Doctor seem to find most disconcerting when he regenerated?

Answer: His teeth

Almost the first thing David Tennant did as the Doctor in the regeneration scene at the end of "The Parting of the Ways" was to check out his teeth. It seemed they must have felt funny!
9. Which two reality show games were the ninth Doctor and Rose forced to play in the episode "Bad Wolf"?

Answer: "Big Brother" and "Weakest Link"

The Doctor became a housemate while Rose was faced with questions about a history that hadn't yet happened in her time. Meanwhile, Captain Jack was given a scary makeover.
10. Who did Captain Jack kiss in the episode "The Parting of the Ways"?

Answer: Rose and the ninth Doctor

Captain Jack kissed both the Doctor and Rose with great affection. He then got exterminated by a dalek, and, finally, left behind. That was not the end of the character though, as he reappeared in the next season.
