Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. It is very difficult to navigate from our universe to E-space and back, but one enemy of the Time Lords managed to cross over on purpose. Which one?

Answer: The Great Vampire

The Great Vampire is the only survivor of its race, most of whom were wiped out by the Time Lords in an era long forgotten. It fled to E-space during the war ('State of Decay').
2. The Doctor and Romana accidentally go to E-space via a CVE. What do the letters CVE stand for?

Answer: Charged Vacuum Emboitement

Not sure if this means anything, but cool, huh?
3. In the story 'Logopolis', we discover that CVEs were deliberately created by the Logopolitans. Why?

Answer: To release the excess entropy in the universe

It is only the mathematical skill of the Logopolitans that is holding the universe together in the face of so much entropy. When the Master interferes with their calculations by killing some of them, the entropy destroys large bits of the universe, including Nyssa's home planet Traken.
4. What is the name of the ship that brought the humans to E-space in 'State of Decay'?

Answer: Hydrax

The name of the ship comes into prominence when the Doctor challenges Camilla and Zargo to remember their human past after Zargo says, "A ship of state must have a pilot." "It's just odd, you see, he should mention that," says the Doctor, "because Romana and I have just been through a ship's manifest and I can't remember what the ship was called but Romana might be able to remember. What was it called, Romana?" "Hydrax." "Yes, Hydrax. Does that mean anything to you? Hydrax? HYDRAX??" The other names were taken from other episodes: the SS Shadow was Striker's ship in 'Enlightenment', the Empress was the ship in 'Nightmare of Eden' and the P7E was the ship in 'Underworld'.
5. What does the Doctor do to get the computer equipment working in 'State of Decay'?

Answer: Thumps it

"Definitely an Earth device," he says when this works.
6. When Romana is captured as a time-sensitive by the slavers in 'Warriors' Gate', in what way are her navigational powers limited?

Answer: She only produces an image in the present

At first, the slavers think Romana cannot show an image at all. But she soon projects an image of the arch, which one of the crew members describes as geographical rather than temporal.
7. What is wrong with Terradon, the planned destination of the inhabitants of the Starliner in 'Full Circle'?

Answer: It isn't their home planet

The Doctor finds out the inhabitants of the Starliner are actually from Alzarius not Terradon when he realises they share the same biology as the spiders and the marshmen. But some of the elite Alzarians have known this all along.
8. "There are three physical gateways and the three are one," according to the talkative Gundan robot. Which one of the following is not one of the gateways?

Answer: The garden

The Gundan goes on, "The whole of this domain, the ancient arch, the mirrors."
9. Which E-space alien knocks K9's head off?

Answer: A marshman

A marshman knocks his head off in the cave where the outsiders (including Adric and his brother) are dwelling ('Full Circle'). K9 has a particularly rough season. His memory wafers finally give in after being touched by the time winds during 'Warriors' Gate', and he has to remain behind on the other side of the gateway with Romana at the end of the story.
10. Which N-space planet has the same co-ordinates as Alzarius (1001100 zero by 02 from galactic zero centre)?

Answer: Gallifrey

Romana and the Doctor are called to Gallifrey at the start of 'Full Circle'. K9 sets the coordinates, and the view on the scanner when they materialise is of Gallifrey. But having been waylaid by a CVE, they have ended up on Alzarius.
