Answer: The Flash

At the initial meeting in Leonard's apartment, all came dressed as The Flash. After a brief discussion, where Sheldon suggested that they all spend the night standing behind each other to emulate The Flash at full speed, it was decided that they would all choose another costume. Leonard called dibs on a Frodo costume, while Sheldon reappeared as the Dopler Effect, Howard was either Robin Hood or Peter Pan, and Raj was Thor.

While fans of the series know that Leonard fell in love with Penny the first time he saw her, this is perhaps the first time Penny realized that Leonard thought she was "perfect".

The two shared their first kiss in this episode.

Answer: A used dinner napkin

After Sheldon learned that Penny was indeed planning to give him a Christmas gift, he went with Raj and Howard on a quest to find the right gift for her. It was difficult for him to do that because he did not know what Penny was planning to give to him, and therefore, did not know its worth. Consequently, he purchased a variety of gift baskets containing bath items so that he could appropriately excuse himself after opening Penny's present, come back with the proper gift basket, and eventually return all the others to the store.

As it turned out, Sheldon's saw Penny's gift of Leonard Nimoy's autographed soiled napkin as being priceless, and gave her all of the gift baskets he had brought home.

Answer: Leonard

Penny was quite dismayed when she heard that Leonard's mother, Beverly, would be visiting for the holidays because Leonard hadn't yet told his mom about their relationship. Could a respected psychologist accept the fact that her son was dating a waitress? To make matters worse, it was learned throughout the episode that Sheldon and Beverly had a closer relationship than Leonard and his mother, and that Sheldon was even aware of family events, such as the death of the family dog, that Leonard had not been told.

Answer: Zack

Zach seemed to be a nice guy, but he did not come off as being very smart. Penny herself admitted that was the case, and the only reason she got back with him was so that she wouldn't have to spend New Year's Eve alone. Zach was tall and muscular and made a great Superman, but in the end it appeared that the reason the group won the costume contest was because they were the only ones who could come up with an actual female to dress as Wonder Woman.

Answer: Dungeons and Dragons

Up to this point, viewers had heard Sheldon talk about his Meemaw quite as bit, as she was obviously one of his favorite people, but he had not mentioned his Pop-Pop, who apparently passed away when Sheldon was five years old. Leonard had made up a Dungeons and Dragons scenario whereby the guys had to rescue Santa from an ogre.

Sheldon, however, made a move in the game that left Santa trapped in a dungeon. He revealed that as a young child his Pop-Pop was the only one who encouraged his love of science and that he had asked Santa to bring back his grandfather as his Christmas wish. That could not happen, of course, and ever since, Sheldon had not liked Santa or Christmas.

At the end of the episode Sheldon had a nightmare where he was visited by Santa, who explained the impossibility of the request. Santa then shot Sheldon with a cannon!

Answer: He didn't do the laundry.

The entire date was very awkward because Penny saw one of her old boyfriends propose to his date and Bernadette was angry with Howard because he didn't help with chores around the house. Because he apparently played "Assassin's Creed" on his Xbox instead of doing the laundry like he was supposed to, she hid the game.

In the end, Howard confessed that he could help more, and figured out that Bernadette hid the game in the laundry. Leonard tried to propose for the second time to Penny - but she stopped him, Sheldon made Amy his emergency contact for her gift, and Raj and Stuart hosted a party at the comic book shop, during which Raj snagged a coffee date!

Answer: Funeral of Arthur Jeffries

In this episode, the funeral of Arthur Jeffries, Sheldon's boyhood hero Professor Proton, was scheduled for May 4. While Sheldon did not care to attend, thinking that mourning was "wasted emotion" and funerals were a "superstitious ritual", Leonard and Penny did, although she admitted that it was the first funeral she had ever attended. Leonard, who had previously collaborated with Jeffries, expressed his gratitude in being able to work with a childhood hero. Penny surprised Leonard by proposing marriage to him again.

Sheldon was more upset than he realized, as during the movie marathon he fell asleep and was visited by Jeffries, who was dressed as a Jedi master. He suggested to Sheldon that he was wasting his limited time on earth by watching the same movies over and over.

Answer: His dad was coming to town.

Dr. Koothrappali was getting a divorce, and Raj thought he should spend the time with his dad, so Amy planned a big Victorian Christmas party at her place, complete with period-correct food and games. Leonard and Howard reserved the use of a clean room at the university for an experiment, and were delayed by a bird's infiltration of the room and the subsequent discussion regarding who would take the responsibility. Penny solved the problem by convincing Leonard to just erase everyone's name from the sign-in sheet! Matter closed! Sheldon, upset that Amy had spent time preparing for the celebration of a season that he saw as frivolous, decided to get back at her by purchasing a gift for her after they both agreed there would be no gifts; his plan was to make her feel bad for not having a gift to exchange.

Much to his surprise, Amy also had a gift - cookies she had made using his Meemaw's recipe!

Answer: Switzerland

Sheldon was so upset. He felt that Leonard owed it to him to take him to the conference in Switzerland, which included a trip to the CERN lab to see the Large Hadron Collider. He spent every waking moment looking for ways to convince Leonard and Penny that he deserved to go on the trip. Penny wasn't sure what she was going to see, and eventually Shelton wore her down.

He was so excited when she said she would talk to Leonard, he even hugged her. What a surprise when they both ended up with the flu, too sick to even think about going on the trip with Leonard! He took Raj instead, only to find a room that was full of flowers, champagne, and chocolate; Leonard had planned quite the VD party with Penny!

Answer: Rabbit

In this episode, Bernadette had special news for Howard. They had plans to use their new hot tub, but found a creature floating in the water that appeared to be drowning. Upon closer inspection they discovered that it was a rabbit that they named Valentino - a clever foreshadowing of future events for them - but before she could make the big reveal to Howard he was bitten by the creature.

As he left to go to the hospital for a rabies shot, Bernadette revealed to the audience that she was pregnant. Howard found out in the next episode, "The Positive Negative Reaction". What were the others doing for the big day? Leonard and Penny, feeling like they were growing old and dull, dressed up as Cupids.

Sheldon and Amy celebrated with their first live broadcast of "Fun With Flags", and Raj broke up with Emily - yes, on Valentine's Day.
