Martin Jarvis had his first television role as Hilio opposite William Hartnell's first Doctor in "The Web Planet" in 1965 before appearing opposite Jon Pertwee's third Doctor in "Invasion Of The Dinosaurs" as Dr. Butler in 1974. He went on to play the Governor in "Vengeance On Varos" opposite Colin Baker's sixth Doctor in 1985.

Tom Chadbon first appeared opposite Tom Baker's fourth Doctor in the classic "City Of Death" in 1979 as Duggan before returning as Merdeen in the first segment of the epic "The Trial Of A Time Lord" (commonly known as "Mysterious Planet") in 1986.

Answer: Terry Molloy

Terry Molloy is best known for his three appearances as Davros, the second of which concluded season 22 in "Revelation Of The Daleks". He also played the part of Russell in that season's opening story "Attack Of The Cybermen".

Nabil Shaban first appeared as Sil in "Vengeance On Varos" in 1985 and returned the following year during the second segment of "The Trial Of A Time Lord" (commonly known as "Mindwarp").

Answer: Paul Darrow

Paul Darrow is perhaps most famous for his role as Kerr Avon in "Blake's 7". He appeared as Maylin Tekker opposite the sixth Doctor in "Timelash" in 1985. He had earlier appeared in the third Doctor story "Doctor Who And The Silurians" in 1970 as Captain Hawkins.

Incidentally, Jacqueline Pearce (who played Servalan in "Blake's 7") also appeared during the sixth Doctor's time as Chessene in "The Two Doctors".

Laurence Payne first appeared opposite the first Doctor in "The Gunfighters" as historical figure Johnny Ringo in 1965. Next, he appeared in the fourth Doctor's final season as Morix in "The Leisure Hive" in 1980. Finally he starred with the sixth (and second) Doctor in "The Two Doctors" as Dastari in 1985.

Answer: Gawn Grainger

Gawn Grainger played the famed English engineer in "The Mark Of The Rani" in 1985. He is also married to Zoë Wanamaker, who appeared twice as Cassandra in the revived series - "The End Of The World" in 2005 and "New Earth" in 2006.

Answer: Michael Jayston

Michael Jayston played the Valeyard brilliantly throughout "The Trial Of A Time Lord" as the Doctor's prosecution. in the last segment (commonly known as "The Ultimate Foe") the Master reveals the Valeyard's true identity as the darker sides of the Doctor's nature from between his penultimate and final incarnations.

Although seen to either perish or be trapped in the Matrix at the conclusion of the story, the very last shot reveals that he has now taken the form of, or disguised himself as, the Keeper of the Matrix.

His further exploits and status are never followed up or resolved on screen. It is all rather confusing really!

Answer: Dennis Chinnery

Dennis Chinnery first appeared in the first Doctor story "The Chase" in 1965 as Albert C Richardson and a decade later in the fourth Doctor classic "Genesis Of The Daleks" as Gharman. He played Sylvest, father to the eponymous twins in Colin Baker's first story.

Answer: Michael Grade

It was clearly intended as an attempt to cancel the show there and then. Only the strong public and media backlash (and one dodgy charity single) made the BBC relent and instead state they were just putting the show on an extended hiatus. As for Michael Grade... well, my mother always told me if you have nothing nice to say about someone then don't say anything at all. So I'll leave it there!
