Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. In the first episode, "The End's Beginning", why did the wizard Stregobor want Geralt to kill Renfri?

Answer: Stregobor wanted her corpse for magical purposes.

Geralt was a monster hunter known as a witcher. Stregobor was a wizard who was in hiding from Renfri, a cursed princess. The wizard lured Geralt to his hideout to offer him a contract: kill Renfri. Stregobor wanted Renfri's cursed body so that he could perform an autopsy and gain something magical from her corpse. Geralt wasn't the first man he had sent after the princess, which led to Renfri's desire to kill Stregobor before he killed her.
2. Which nation invaded Cintra?

Answer: Nilfgaard

The Nilfgaardian Empire was expanding and nations were collapsing under their might. The Cintran army fought against them, but they were defeated on the battlefield. That night, the Nilfgaardians swarmed the city, killing almost everyone they found. Queen Calanthe sent her granddaughter and heir away. Princess Cirilla was cryptically told to find her destiny in the forest; something she had to do alone when her protectors were killed or captured.
3. In "Four Marks", Yennefer was bought from her family and taken to Aretuza. What did she do there?

Answer: Learn magic

Yennefer was born with a deformity and was an outcast in her village. Her step-father sold her to Tissaia de Vries, who took her to Aretuza. At first, she found magic difficult to master, though she demonstrated immense power when she experienced heightened emotions. She needed to learn how to control her gift.
4. Yennefer underwent a procedure to gain power and beauty. What was the cost of her transformation?

Answer: She became infertile.

Witchers and mages were mostly infertile. In "Betrayer Moon", Yennefer decided that she would 'celebrate' the end of her magical training by becoming beautiful. She sacrificed her fertility in order to remove her deformity. It was a painful procedure and a decision she later regretted.
5. In "Betrayer Moon", Geralt was hired to kill or cure a princess who had become a monster. What kind of creature was King Foltest's daughter?

Answer: A striga

Strigas were human women who had been turned into monsters by a curse. Foltest's daughter had been cursed before she was born. Both she and her mother died during childbirth and were buried, but the baby continued to grow as a striga. Geralt found the man who cast the curse and the reason why: the girl's mother was Foltest's sister.
6. Urcheon of Erlenwald (a.k.a Duny) claimed Princess Pavetta's hand in marriage. What did he insist gave him the right to marry her?

Answer: The Law of Surprise

Duny had saved the former king's life, putting the king in his debt. Duny claimed the Law of Surprise: as a reward, he could have whatever the king had but did not know. When the king returned home, he found out that his wife was pregnant with Princess Pavetta. Duny returned to Pavetta when she became a woman and claimed her hand in marriage.
7. Which magical creature brought Geralt and Yennefer together for the first time?

Answer: A djinn

Jaskier and Geralt found a trapped djinn in "Bottled Appetites". They fought over the container and in the struggle, the cap came lose and the djinn was released. It attacked Jaskier and made him seriously ill. Geralt set off with the bard to find a healer.

He was pointed in the direction of a sorceress named Yennefer who was capable of healing, but should not be trusted. Yennefer secretly wanted to use the djinn's power of wishes to regain her fertility.
8. Geralt, Jaskier, and Yennefer took part in a hunt during "Rare Species". Which 'rare species' were they looking for?

Answer: A dragon

A man called Borch had organised a dragon hunt and a range of people had signed up. There was a small group of professional monster hunters, a band of dwarves, and a knight accompanied by Yennefer. Borch met Geralt and Jaskier in a tavern and invited them to join the troop as well.
9. Why did Geralt return to Cintra in "Before a Fall"?

Answer: He wanted to invoke the Law of Surprise.

Geralt saved Duny's life at Pavetta's betrothal, as the Queen was unwilling to permit the union. Geralt jokingly invoked the Law of Surprise for Duny to repay the debt. It was at that point they learned about Pavetta's pregnancy. As soon as Geralt realised that his destiny was linked to the child, he tried to avoid Cintra and the responsibility that came with it. Queen Calanthe also wanted him to stay away from her granddaughter.

As Nilfgaardian forces approached, he returned in order to fulfill his obligation and keep Ciri safe.
10. Where did a group of mages make a stand against the invading army from the south in "Much More"?

Answer: Sodden Hill

The Nilfgaardian army was advancing north. The united northern armies were marching south to defend their territories, but they still had a long way to go. Sodden Hill was a key location in the fight. A band of mages came together to help defend Sodden until the northern armies arrived. They were successful in the end, but there were many casualties during the battle.
