Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. What was Wilhelm Klink's rank?

Answer: Colonel

Werner Klemperer was brilliant as the inept commandant who never realized what the prisoners were really doing. Ironically, both Klemperer and John Banner (who played Sgt. Hans Schultz) were Jewish in real life and Klemperer made it a prerequisite that his character never get the upper hand at the end of any episode.
2. What was Sgt. Schultz's favorite phrase whenever something seemed wrong?

Answer: 'I know nothing!'

Schultz was a lovable character. It's obvious that he's just a guy caught in the wrong circumstances just doing his job and harbors no real animosity towards the prisoners. I loved it whenever there would be a prison escape or shootout he would "lose" his gun and be able to fight, or when he would nonchalantly hand over his gun to the prisoners so he could eat the food that was offered him by the POWs.
3. On to the prisoners. Colonel Hogan had four other POWs who helped him in his schemes. Who was the master of explosives?

Answer: Carter

Carter was always getting into trouble because he tried to be too fancy in everything he did. His imitation of Hitler was great.
4. Who was the communications expert?

Answer: Kinchloe

Kinch was replaced by Sgt. Baker in the final season.
5. What was the nickname Schultz had for LeBeau whenever he was upset with him?

Answer: Cockroach

It was always hilarious to see LeBeau distract Schultz with a batch of potato pancakes or some other goody.
6. Whenever Klink felt like he was being discriminated against or not getting the recognition he deserved from his superiors, what affliction did he blame?

Answer: Having bad vision in one eye

In a number of episodes Klink sometimes theorizes that people who wear monocles didn't get the respect they deserved because it was so uncommon.
7. Here's a toughie: In one episode Colonel Hogan is seen showing off his talents musically. What instrument did he play?

Answer: Drums

Bob Crane was a radio DJ before his stint as Hogan and was a great fan of jazz and big band music. He was a very accomplished drummer.
8. What was the dreaded place no German at Stalag 13 wanted to go?

Answer: The Eastern Front

The Eastern Front (or Russian Front) was the place that struck fear in all Germans on the show and was used as a threat whenever someone made a mistake or refused to do something, which was pretty much every episode!
9. From what fairy tale did the POWs borrow to speak secretly over the radio?

Answer: Goldilocks and the Three Bears

They always used the terms "Mama Bear," "Papa Bear," and "Goldilocks" to address each other whenever they went on a mission.
10. Where was the bug in Colonel Klink's office that the prisoners used to eavesdrop in on their conversations?

Answer: Photo

It was hilarious because the bug was on a framed photo of Hitler giving a speech on a pulpit and the bug is plainly seen on the microphone in the photo. Can't believe they never noticed it, but that's comedy!
