Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. In which area of London does Alf Garnett live?

Answer: Wapping

Wapping then was a very working class district, which was centered around the docklands area. These days, however, Wapping has become very upmarket, and the old dockside warehouses have now been converted into very exclusive apartments.
2. What is the name of Alf's wife?

Answer: Else

Alf's long suffering wife was played by actress Dandy Nichols. She died in 1986 whilst filming the comeback series 'In Sickness And In Health'.
3. Alf Garnett often referred to his wife as a what?

Answer: Silly moo

Obviously from the 'moo' sound of a cow. This became a popular catchphrase in the U.K at the time.
4. Which actress played Alf's daughter, Rita?

Answer: Una Stubbs

Una Stubbs was already well known by this time, having starred in the Cliff Richard films of the early 1960's. She became even more famous in the 1980's, as one of the team captains in the long running U.K television series 'Give Us A Clue'.
5. Which city does Alf's layabout son-in-law come from?

Answer: Liverpool

Actor Anthony Booth played the part of 'Mike'. Booth's daughter, Cherie, went on to marry British Prime Minister Tony Blair. So Alf's son-in-law is Tony Blair's father-in-law!
6. Which London football team does Alf support?

Answer: West Ham United

Alf Garnett has probably become West Ham's most famous supporter. Actor Warren Mitchell, who plays Alf Garnett, is a Tottenham Hotspur fan. Don't tell Alf!
7. Which British political party does Alf always vote for?

Answer: Conservative

Alf is a true blue right winger and ardent royalist. The Labour party (especially in the 1960/70's) were the antithesis of the Conservatives. These days, in my view, there's not that much difference between the two.
8. Three spin-off films were made from the television series.

Answer: False

Two films were made based on the T.V series. 'Till Death Us Do Part' was released in 1969 and 'The Alf Garnett Saga' in 1972.
9. Who wrote the script for 'Till Death Us Do Part'?

Answer: Johnny Speight

East London born Johnny Speight, once said of Alf Garnett. "I didn't create Alf Garnett. Society created him".
10. What was the name of the American version of 'Till Death Us Do Part'?

Answer: All In The Family

Alf Garnett was re-named 'Archie Bunker', who was played by Carroll O'Connor. 'All In The Family' was a big hit in America and ran from 1971-1979.
