"30 Coins" (in Spanish "30 monedas") was created, written and directed by Álex de la Iglesia for HBO Europe. It was shot (mostly) in Spain and the dialogue was (mostly) in Spanish. The series is set in the village of Pedraza (fictional) and was shot in the municipality of Pedraza (real) in the province of Segovia. Where appropriate, bits of the dialogue are in Italian, Latin, or English.

In the opening shot of the first episode, there is a caption which reads "A village in England, July 2089 AD". The date is also displayed at the start of other episodes. Since the first season of the series aired in 1984, this was slightly more than a century in the future. The original trilogy of books was published in 1966-1967 and there was the implication that it was set about a century in the future. With the first few shots, we are already aware that something is wrong. This is not a future of gleaming metal and flying machines. The simpler buildings and horse drawn cart suggest a setting more akin to the 19th century than the 21st. In some ways this episode can be compared to the first chapter of "The White Mountains". Though we see Will's cousin, Jack, drawn into the Tripod and a more elaborate presentation of the community celebration after he returns, we lose the conversation Will and Jack had before this event where Jack raised many questions about the Tripods to set the mood for the series. However, the episode does offer some conversation between Will and his mother, presenting a bit more of a female character. (One of the common criticisms of the original trilogy was dearth of female characters.)

Rob Brydon is famous for his many impressions and once, on April Fools Day stood in for BBC Radio 2 presenter Ken Bruce on his show, without anyone realising. Brydon also appeared in "Gavin and Stacey" (2007-2010), playing the part of Stacey's Uncle Bryn.

Dylan Minnette played Clay. Christian Navarro played Tony. Dylan has also starred on the original "Prison Break" series, "Scandal", and "Saving Grace".

Johnny Carson began his run as host of "The Tonight Show" on October 1, 1962. Carson was preceded by Steve Allen, the show's original host who appeared from 1954 through 1957, and Jack Paar, who hosted the show from 1957 until 1962. Carson was originally offered the hosting job several months prior to Paar's planned departure from the show, but declined the offer. Carson, a shy person by nature, feared that he would not be able to interview celebrities for the 105 minutes of the show. NBC then offered the job to Bob Newhart, Jackie Gleason, Grocho Marx, and Joey Bishop, all of whom declined the offer. NBC then approached Carson again and convinced him to accept the offer. The rest as they say was history. Carson went on to host the show for the next 30 years.
