Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. He played Opie on 'The Andy Griffith Show' then went on to play Richie on 'Happy Days'. Who is he?

Answer: Ron Howard

Player doiknow sent me a note saying she heard Opie was named for an old bandleader named Opie Cates. Andy Griffith and Sheldon Leonard were fans of his. Thanks for the information doiknow! Ron Howard went on to become a very successful film director.
2. He was very popular as Sam Malone on 'Cheers' and went on to play the cranky Dr. John Becker on 'Becker'. Who is he?

Answer: Ted Danson

These are two very different characters! Ted would later go on to star on some of the later seasons of the original "CSI" TV series.
3. He played the sweet and charming Tony Nelson on 'I Dream of Jeannie' and went on to play the ruthless and nasty J.R. Ewing on 'Dallas'. Who is he?

Answer: Larry Hagman

He was great in both roles! Larry reprised his role as JR on the TNT network reboot of "Dallas" in 2012. Unfortunately, he passed away in the middle of the show's second season of filming, on November 23, 2012. He was 81 years old.
4. She was Laurie Partridge on 'The Partridge Family' and went on to play Grace Van Owen on 'L.A. Law'. Who is she?

Answer: Susan Dey

She also made some good made-for-tv movies.
5. This lady was wonderful as Laura Petrie on 'The Dick Van Dyke Show' and equally wonderful as Mary Richards on her self titled show. Who is she?

Answer: Mary Tyler Moore

Unfortunately, she hasn't had a successful show since. But, she's had some good movie roles. She did guest star on "That '70s Show" and "Hot in Cleveland".
6. He was Archie Bunker for years on 'All in the Family' and went on to play Chief Gillespie on 'In the Heat of the Night'. Who is he?

Answer: Carroll O'Connor

That Archie was something else! He passed away on June 21, 2001. His last film role was in "Return to Me" alongside David Duchovny and Minnie Driver.
7. He played the ultra conservative Alex P. Keaton on 'Family Ties' and later played Mike Flaherty on 'Spin City'. Who is he?

Answer: Michael J. Fox

Mr. Fox left 'Spin City' so he could devote more time to the fight of Parkinson's Disease. He went on to guest star on "Scrubs", "Boston Legal", and "Rescue Me". In 2013 he started his own series once more, and it was called "The Michael J. Fox Show".
8. He played Tony Banta on 'Taxi' then became housekeeper Tony Micelli on 'Who's The Boss'. Who is he?

Answer: Tony Danza

Tony went on to host a daytime talk show. Some years later, after the talk show was canceled, he was an assistant teacher at a Philadelphia high school. Afterward, he wrote a book based on his experience in that role.
9. She was police officer Mary Beth Lacey on 'Cagney and Lacey' and went on to play social worker Maxine Gray on 'Judging Amy'. Who is she?

Answer: Tyne Daly

Her brother is Tim Daly of 'Wings' and 'Private Practice' fame. In 2009 she guest starred on "Grey's Anatomy" and in 2010 on "Burn Notice".
10. He had two self titled shows. He was Bob Hartley on the show with his first and last name in the title. Then he was Dick Louden, an innkeeper in his show that had his last name as the title. Who is he?

Answer: Bob Newhart

'The Bob Newhart Show' is my favorite of the two, although 'Newhart' was funny also. Bob was in three made for cable TV movies called "The Librarian" (in 2004, 2006, and 2008 respectively) and had a cameo in the 2011 comedy "Horrible Bosses".
