Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. In "The Purple Testament" Lt. Fitzgerald finds a rare and unique gift (or curse). Which of these is correct about his newly-found ability?

Answer: By looking into his men's faces, he can see who's going to die

Actor William Reynolds played the role of Fitzgerald. He was able to see a light in his crew's faces right before they died. Ironically, the last light he saw was in the mirror (on his own face).
2. Possibly the most popular episode is "The Monsters Are Due on Maple Street". Which of these alleged "monsters" commits the first murder in this one?

Answer: Charlie (a human)

Panic strikes as a shadowy person walks up the block. Forgetting that Pete Van Horn had gone to check what was going on in the neighborhood, Charlie (one of the neighbors), grabs a shotgun and blows Van Horn away, claiming he thought it was the "monster". As soon as they see the alleged "monster", they all realize it's Van Horn, who was on his way back from his scouting mission (oops!).
3. A History professor talks about history lessons as if he had lived them (turns out he did). Which of these is the title of the episode (episode 24)?

Answer: Long Live Walter Jameson

Walter Jameson was a History professor had lived over two thousand years. He was about to marry young Susanna Kittridge, when her father (another professor) realized by looking at a Civil War picture, that Jameson was in fact immortal. Eventually, he gets shot by an ex-wife which ends his immortality.
4. "People Are Alike All Over" deals with an astronaut crash-landing on Mars. By the looks of it, Martians seemed pretty "human". Which of these became his new "home"?

Answer: An exhibit at the Martian zoo

The story was not an original Rod Serling story. He adapted it from another called "Story Beyond the Void". This is an excellent plot which ends with a plaque in front of the new human exhibit which reads "Earth creature in his native habitat".
5. A little boy makes a magical wish in hopes that an older athlete can make a comeback in "The Big Tall Wish". Which of these is the sport highlighted in this episode?

Answer: Boxing

Boxer Bolie Jackson is at the end of his career when Henry (the little boy), makes a wish to turn defeat into victory. Henry warns the boxer that the only way these wishes work is if people truly believe in them. The boxer does not believe Henry causing everything to revert back to the way it was before the first wish, in which the boxer loses and remains an old "has been".
6. Rocky Valentine (thief) dies in a shooting. He meets a character named Pip who gives him everything he can give him. As the title of the episode points out, what or where is "A Nice Place to Visit"?

Answer: Hell

At first Rocky Valentine can't get enough of all these wishes coming true, but by the end of the episode he practically begs for it to end (brings to mind that wise saying "careful what you wish for" huh?).
7. A man becomes obsessed trying to win the love of a woman. He acquires a "love potion" that works too well. Before long he returns to the shop where he got it to get a "chaser". What is "The Chaser"?

Answer: An anti-potion also known as "glove cleaner"

The man buys the love potion for $1.00 and ends up paying $1000 for the "chaser" (which in reality was a poison). Unfortunately for him, he is unable to use the "chaser" when he realizes that the girl who is madly in love with him (the one he wants to get rid of) is now pregnant.
8. In "A Passage for Trumpet", after an alcoholic trumpet player sells his "horn", he steps in front of a truck to end it all. After he awakes, a man named Gabe explains that he is in limbo but if he wants, he can return to the living. What does the trumpet player chose to do?

Answer: He chooses to go back and live

Gabe elaborates that his name is "short for Gabriel" (implying that he's an angel). The trumpet player (played by Jack Klugman) chooses life and awakes unharmed from the truck accident. He is able to buy back his "horn" with the money the truck driver gives him to stay quiet and continues to play on.
9. A girl goes up to the ninth floor of a department store looking to buy a gold thimble. A female salesclerk helps her with the purchase. After realizing the thimble is dented she goes to the third floor to complain to the store manager who tells her that there is no ninth floor. What does she finally realize about herself in the episode "The After Hours"?

Answer: She was a mannequin

After discovering that the female salesclerk is a mannequin she sits to rest only to awake to find herself locked in the store. Little-by-little she discovers that all the mannequins are alive and that each of them take turns living with the humans for a month at a time.

By the end of the episode, she takes her spot and turns back into a mannequin like the rest of them. The next day the store manager has to look twice before dismissing the mannequin for what it is.
10. "The Mighty Casey" is about an athletic robot. Which sport did the robot play?

Answer: Baseball

"The Mighty Casey" was a robot or android that pitched for the "Hoboken Zephyrs" baseball team. He revitalized a down-and-out club as well as their manager. The "spin" occurs when Casey is asked to become more human with the help of an artificial heart.

His new heart makes Casey decide not to pitch anymore because "he doesn't want to ruin the batter's careers", and the team goes back to its old losing ways.
