Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Charlie Fairhead, Noel Garcia and Connie Beauchamp.

Answer: Casualty

In 2011, "Casualty", which was first broadcast in 1986, became the longest-running prime time medical drama in TV history, as certified by Guinness World Records.
This place in the record books seems to have only spurred the script writers on even more, as the show continues to turn out quality shows which are emotional, hard hitting and thought provoking.
Charlie Fairhead, played by Derek Thompson has been with the show since episode one and is seen by fans, critics and script writers alike as the lynch pin of the show, while Noel Garcia, played by Tony Marshall is a relative newcomer to the show, having first appeared in 2008.
Amanda Mealing, who plays the part of Connie Beauchamp, has appeared in both "Casualty" and its sister show, "Holby City" since 2004 and has also directed episodes of "Casualty".
2. Patrick Maitland, Jane Christie and Steve Taylor.

Answer: Coupling

"Coupling" which ran from 2000 to 2004, was about the lives and sexual misadventures of six friends and won the prize for "Best TV Comedy" at the 2003 British Comedy Awards.
Ben Miles played Patrick Maitland in the show, and his character was known for his obsession with sex as well as handsomely endowed, while Gina Bellman played the part of local radio, traffic reporter, Jane Christie who flirts constantly and claims to be bisexual.
Steve Taylor, played by Jack Devenport is Jane's ex partner and although Jane finds it hard to let go, he eventually builds a relationship with Susan, played by Sarah Alexander.
3. Ken Barlow, Bet Lynch and, Hilda Ogden.

Answer: Coronation Street

What can I say about "Coronation Street" that hasn't already been covered here by the many quizzes on the show? "Corrie" as it is commonly referred to began life in 1960 and in the heyday of TV, regularly attracted over 20 million viewers.
Ken Barlow, played by William Roache, first appeared on the street in the very first episode and is listed by Guinness World Records as the longest-serving male television star in a continuous role. Bet Lynch, played by Julie Goodyear first appeared in 1966 and reigned as "Queen of the Street" until 2003, going from barmaid to pub manager to landlady.
Hilda Ogden, played by Jean Alexander was introduced to the show in 1964 and went on to become one of the show's most loved characters before her departure on Christmas Day 1987. At one point in the 1980s, Hilda was the fourth most recognisable woman in UK according to a poll, coming in behind The Queen Mother, Queen Elizabeth II and Princess Diana.
4. Windy Miller, Captain Snort and Mickey Murphy.

Answer: Camberwick Green

"Camberwick Green" was a kid's TV show that only ran from January to March 1966 but was repeated so many times that its 13 episodes felt, at times like it was on TV for 13 seasons. Along with sister shows, Trumpton and Chigley, it made a huge impression on children of the 60s, with Captain Snort commanding the troops at Pippin Fort, while Windy Miller rode his tricycle everywhere when he wasn't making flour.
Most of this flour went to Mickey Murphy, the village baker and he along with PC McGarry (number 452) and village gossip Mrs. Honeyman are fondly remembered.
5. Adam Williams, Karen Marsden and Jenny Gifford.

Answer: Cold Feet

In its first run, "Cold Feet" aired from 1997 to 2003, and won 20 major awards, which is surprising considering TV critics, following the first episode called the show, "the most depressing TV programme I have ever seen" and singled out James Nesbitt's acting as "especially awful".
The show struck a chord with viewers however and went from strength to strength as the lives of six friends intertwined and they faced issues such as death, divorce, redundancy, drug use, affairs and IVF treatment while managing to emerge from these problems and retain their sanity and a sense of humour.
Adam Williams was played by James Nesbitt, while Hermione Norris was the wonderful Karen Marsden and Fay Ripley portrayed Jenny Gifford.
6. Fred Smith, Nigel Beaumont and Maggie Forbes.

Answer: C.A.T.S. Eyes

TV show, "The Gentle Touch" (1980-84) made history by being the first UK police drama to feature a female detective in the starring role, and "C.A.T.S. Eyes" (1985-1987) was a spin off from that show, further following the career and personal life of Detective Inspector Maggie Forbes, played by Jill Gascoine, as she left the force to join an all female Home Office department called C.A.T.S. (Covert Activities Thames Section).

The "eyes" of the show's title was the name of the fictitious private detective agency operated by C.A.T.S., which also employed computer expert Frederica 'Fred' Smith, played by Leslie Ash, later to be Debs in "Men Behaving Badly" (1992-1998) while the unit was overseen by Nigel Beaumont, played by Don Warrington, who is probably best remembered for playing Philip in "Rising Damp" between 1974 and 1978.
7. Master Mate, Cut-Throat Jake and Barnabas.

Answer: Captain Pugwash

Children's show, "Captain Pugwash" first aired back in 1957 and lasted until 1966, and was then revived between 1974 and 1975 before being brought back again in 1997.
Captain Pugwash was master of "The Black Pig", which he sailed with his crew, including Master Mate, Barnabas and Tom the Cabin Boy, while regularly trying to out-pirate his mortal enemy, Cut-Throat Jake and his crew aboard "The Flying Dustman".
"Captain Pugwash" is well remembered due to an urban legend which claims that the characters in the show all have names which are sexually suggestive. This urban legend persists even after the show's creator, John Ryan won two libel cases against UK newspapers in the 1990s.
8. Sandy Richardson, Jill Harvey and Meg Mortimer.

Answer: Crossroads

"Crossroads" a soap opera about a West Midlands motel, originally ran from 1964 to 1988 and although it attracted viewers in their millions, it was well known for poor acting, sets which wobbled and farcical story lines.
Noele Gordon played the part of motel owner, Meg Mortimer, previously Meg Ryder and originally Meg Richardson, between 1964 and 1983, while her son, Sandy was played by Roger Tonge, who was the first paraplegic actor to have a starring role on UK TV.
Jill Harvey, later Jill Chance and originally Jill Richardson was Meg's daughter, played by Jane Rossington who was in the show for its entire run, and also starred when the show was briefly revived between 2001 and 2003, although this revamp didn't last long due to viewers switching off in their droves.
9. Wolfie Smith, Florence Johnson and Ken Mills.

Answer: Citizen Smith

"Citizen Smith" (1977-1980) was written by John Sullivan, the man who brought us the classic "Only Fools And Horses" (1981-1991) and concerns the life of a wannabe revolutionary, Wolfie Smith, played by the great Robert Lindsay in his first starring role.
Wolfie's closest friend and fellow member of the "Tooting Liberation Front" is Ken Mills, a Buddhist vegetarian pacifist played by Mike Grady who goes along with Wolfie's revolutionary ambitions despite his many misgivings.
Outstanding in the show was Hilda Braid, who played Florence Johnson, the mother of Wolfie's girlfriend, Shirley, who despite her daughter's long relationship with Wolfie, could never get his name right, referring to him as "Foxy" most of the time.
10. Thomas Holbrook, Matty Jenkyns and Octavia Pole.

Answer: Cranford

"Cranford" was a 2007 TV show, set in 1840s England and adapted from the books by Elizabeth Gaskell.
The characters in the show place great emphasis on maintaining a gentile way of life and behaving in such a way as expected by their position in society, showcasing a brilliant performance from Judi Dench as Matilda "Matty" Jenkyns, a spinster who lives with her older spinster sister, Deborah played by Eileen Atkins.
Also superb in the show are Michael Gambon as Thomas Holbrook, who much admires Miss Matty and Imelda Staunton who plays Octavia Pole, the incorrigible gossip of the town of Cranford.
With a perfect mix of drama and humour, this award winning show is certainly worth a watch.
