However, it quickly becomes clear that Senator Vinick's campaign will suffer more given his strong pro-nuclear stance, and the fact that the event is happening in the very plant he helped establish in his home state.

This incredible news leads to something that's been brewing for over 6 seasons: a kiss between Josh and Donna.

Regular ice doesn't seem to help very much as he struggles to continue shaking everyone's hand. Meanwhile, both campaigns are faced with the challenges of where they should visit with just two weeks left in the campaign.

Bruno urges Vinick to leak some papers that show Santos is paying for a woman and her child, but Vinick refuses to take the advantage on moral grounds. As it turns out, this is an innocent situation, as Santos is covering for his brother.

Toby was threatened that he would face more charges if he didn't reveal his source, but he continued to hold out, protecting his dead brother's reputation. This is despite knowing it could place Santos' campaign in jeopardy by dragging Leo back into the inquiry.

This discovery is a shock to everyone on the most important day of the Santos campaign. In a light-hearted side story, Josh and Donna spend the night together, and we also discover that Will and Kate Harper have developed a relationship.

Santos' unlikely victory is sealed with a win in Nevada, a state he barely entered during the campaign. The result is overshadowed by the death of Leo early in the episode. According to a New York times article, the writers originally planned to have Santos lose the election, but changed their minds when they had to write in the death of Leo, thinking it would be too harsh a plotline to have Santos lose a VP and the election in the same day.

Vinick concedes as he doesn't want to go through an appeal. His team suggested that the absence of a Vice President, as well as the close result, would have been grounds for a recount or even another election.

This also the only "West Wing" episode of the entire series to feature all 3 of the Bartlet daughters in a single episode. Rob Lowe's non-appearance as Sam Seaborn was certainly obvious to viewers, particularly given he appeared in the very next episode.

In a scene reminiscent of a long-ago event, Josh flies back to California to see Sam (again), and pulls him out of a meeting with lawyers (again). Sam asks to think about it, finally agreeing on the condition that Josh take a week off. He agrees, and also decides to take Donna along to make it a romantic getaway.

Vinick spends much of this episode convinced he can run in the next election and win, but his staffers are not on board. Santos convinces Vinick that he will not allow partisan politics to interfere with his position as Secretary of State, and he accepts the offer.

Answer: CJ decides to take a job outside the White House

CJ is offered a job of Special Counselor to the President, one that Santos expects her to take. But she finally realises (with help from Danny) that she wants to work outside the White House, and takes a job with philanthropist Franklin Hollis to fight AIDS in Africa. Kate is not offered the NSA job and is coming to terms with life after the White House; Will decides to run for a congress seat; and Andrea asks for a pardon on Toby's behalf (being Toby he was clearly too stubborn to ask himself).

It's clear that Bartlet is in two minds about pardoning Toby, and it's not until the very last minute that he signs his name. Jed takes his time leaving the office, clearly very emotional about moving out and never returning.

In his first Presidential briefing, Santos does indeed say "what's next?" to his staff, continuing the great Bartlet tradition. However, the final line of the show is reserved for Bartlet, who, in response to his wife's question "what are you thinking about?" he simply says "tomorrow". A poignant end to a classic show.
