Crowley's snarky reference was to Sam's actions during the year Dean was in Purgatory, when, overcome with grief, Sam ran until he hit a dog and ended up in a relationship with the veterinarian who saved the dog. It was explained in flashbacks during the first part of season 8. During this call, Crowley also told Sam that Dean was alive. Sam responded, "I don't know how you did this, what kind of black magic stunt you pulled, but hear me: "I will save my brother or die trying."

Throughout the the series, Crowley is the character who always played the long game. He knew that Sam would need Castiel's help to stop Dean, so he saved the angel. After doing so, he told Castiel, "You're useless to me dead," and "You owe me." He then ordered him to "fix the problem," meaning Dean.

When Castiel said that could mean he would have to kill Dean, Crowley replied, "I'm not sentimental."

Answer: "The Princess Bride"

Cole kidnapped Sam to get to Dean. He called and told Dean he was going to kill his brother. Demon Dean refused to come save Sam. Cole then let Sam escape, so he could follow him to Dean. When he caught up with Dean, Dean taunted him, asking, "What did you think was gonna happen here, huh? You'd just stroll up here and say, 'My name is Inigo Montoya. You killed my father. Prepare to die.' and I'd just fold?" He then beat up Cole, and let him know he was a demon, before Sam subdued him using holy water and the demon cuffs.

The quote Dean cited came from the 1987 movie, "The Princess Bride."

Answer: Dean

When Cole confronted Dean in "Girls Girls Girls," Dean explained to him that Cole's father was a monster and that is why Dean killed him. Understanding that Cole's entire world collapsed with this knowledge, Dean gave him his gun, and shared some wisdom with him.

The speech was heartbreaking. He said, "I get it. That was your story. Look man, I got one of those too. But those stories that we tell to keep us going? Sometimes they blind us. They take us to dark places . . . The truth is, I'm past saving. I know how my story ends.

It's at the edge of a blade or the barrel of a gun. So the question is, is that gonna be today? That gonna be that gun?"

Claire's anger was for Castiel for taking her dad, and also for Sam and Dean because they "stood there" while it happened. It was amusing to have her call Dean "Hasselhoff," referring to actor and musician David Hasselhoff, but it was also a call out to long time fans, who remembered that during "All Hell Breaks Loose" in season 2, it was revealed that "D. Hasselhoff" was one of Dean's aliases. Sam showed Andy a credit card receipt of Dean's, and that was the name he had signed. Andy then used that receipt to send Dean a vision of where Sam was in Wyoming.

Answer: To kill Sam

Cain's speech, before attempting to kill Dean, was intense. He said, "I'm saving you . . . from your fate. . . Have you never mused upon the fact that you're living my life in reverse? My story began when I killed my brother, and that's where your story inevitably will end. . . First you'd kill Crowley.

There'd be some strange, mixed feelings on that one, but you'd have your reason. You'd get it done. No remorse. And then you'd kill the Angel, Castiel. Now that I suspect would hurt something awful. And then would come the murder you'd never survive.

The one that would finally turn you into as much of a savage as it did me. Your brother Sam. The only thing standing between you and that destiny is this blade. You're welcome, my son."

Dean started out just talking about treating women poorly, in order to attract the attention of the ghost. But, he then got serious, and spoke about his feelings, since he knew he would soon face death due to the Mark of Cain. His revelations were heartbreaking, as he said, "What if I said I didn't want to die yet, that I wasn't ready? . . . I just thought sooner or later I'd go out the same way I lived: Pedal to the metal, and that would be it. Now, recent events, make me think I may be closer to that than I really thought. And, I don't know, there's things, people, feelings that I want to experience differently than I have before. Or maybe even for the first time. . . . I'm just starting to think that there's more to it all than I thought."

Answer: Like a drunk baby.

The episode began with Sam waking up to his brother's screams for help, and discovering Dean asleep in his bed, tormented by nightmares. So, Dean's response, while amusing, was also sad, as the viewer saw the knowledge and worry on Sam's face.

In "Inside Man," watching Sam and Castiel finally get the better of Metatron (the villain who expelled the Angels from heaven, killed Dean, ordered Kevin's death, and stole Castiel's grace) was very satisfying. Metatron thought he would once again be in control.

He told them he was in charge because, "I know about the Mark, I have your grace, I make the rules. It's called leverage, boys. Learn it. Live it. Love it." Castiel responded by taking his grace and Sam responded by shooting him in the leg. Castiel then said, "We have your grace, Metatron. You're mortal now, so you will answer our questions, or Sam will, um, what's the phrase? Blow your frickin' brains out.

It's called leverage, Metatron." And Sam followed up with, "Learn it. Live it. Love it."

Metatron stalled and played with Castiel to stop from giving Castiel back his grace. As usual, he was scheming, and when he finally led Castiel to the library to retrieve his grace, he cast a spell on Castiel and attempted to take both the demon tablet and Castiel's grace. Castiel was able to get his grace, but Metatron still escaped with the demon tablet.

Answer: We are stronger together than apart.

Sam attempted to retrieve the codex from the Werther Box, and Dean followed him. Cuthbert Sinclair had put a lock on the box, though, causing a spell to be released when one tried to open the box. The spell would overtake people, causing them to kill themselves.

When attacked, Dean believed he was back in Purgatory with Benny, with Benny trying to convince him to kill himself. And, Sam believed Rowena was with him, helping him, while his own imagination was urging him to bleed himself to death in order to open the box.

The Mark of Cain allowed Dean to overcome the spell. He then stopped his brother from killing himself by using his own blood. Blood from both brothers was then enough to open the box. After, Dean told Sam, "That says something, doesn't it? Werther splits us up in there, and within an hour, we're both on the brink of death? . . .

The universe is trying to tell us something we both should already know: We're stronger together than apart."

Answer: Don't tell your brother what we're doing?

Neither Charlie nor Castiel were pleased to be hiding their efforts from Dean. Each told Sam "This never ends well." Sam told them that "lying to Dean is the choice that sucks the least." He begged them to do it. Charlie agreed "for Dean" and Castiel agreed "for Dean" and Sam said, "for Dean." They all then looked at Rowena, who said, "I barely know the man."

Rowena enjoyed taunting people during season 10. Talking to Castiel, she said she was fascinated by "an angel that rejected heaven. That's like a fish that wants to fly or a dog that thinks he's people." Castiel then told Sam, "I'd be happy to kill her.

She just called me a fish." However, they then got the email from Charlie and realized there was still a chance to save Dean from the Mark of Cain. So, Rowena got a reprieve.

When Sam attempted to kill Crowley using Rowena's hex bag during "The Prisoner," Crowley told him, "I could kill you. Snap my fingers. Easiest thing in the world. From here on, I want you to know that the only reason you're alive is because I allowed it. And I want you to deliver a message. You tell that ginger whore that I gave her a chance to walk away, and she spat in my face. So now, she'll never see me coming."

Answer: Death

Dean summoned Death to kill him. Death told him that the Mark would Not allow Dean to die. And, he said he would not remove the Mark of Cain because it was a lock holding in "the Darkness." Instead, he said he could move Dean far from earth, where he could not hurt anyone, but only if Dean killed Sam, since he knew Sam would never stop searching for his brother and trying to remove the Mark. Ironically, immediately after Dean killed Death to save Sam, Sam's plan to remove the mark was implemented by Rowena, Castiel and Crowley, and the Darkness was released.
