The movie "an Affair to Remember" was about two lovers who agree to meet at the top of the Empire State Building". The "Gilmore Girls" episode is about a party Lorelei and Sookie plan to cater for Emily.

The line comes from the end of the third stanza- "Yet the ear distinctly tells, from the jangling and the wrangling, how the danger sinks or swells. In the episode, the town bells are repaired and ring every hour, but soon the entire town is sick of them. Luke and Lorelei take it on themselves to break the bells.
