Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Because Disney's "Virtual Magic Kingdom" (VMK) is a massively multiplayer online game, the first thing you need to do after you register is create a character. During this phase of the game, you can choose their clothing, facial features, and skin color, among other things. Which of these unusual skin colors is not one of the options you have to choose from?

Answer: Polka dots

Traditional skin colors are also available and most people tend to stick with those. However, around certain holidays, you may see people walking around with odd colored skin. Some good examples are the green skin can usually be seen on some people on St. Patrick's Day and the blue skin can be seen on people during Halloween (while they pretend to be zombies).
2. Once you have made your character, you are taken to the Esplanade, which is basically the entryway to the park. You can either exit the room on foot or you can select the map icon from the bottom of the screen and choose a different room from the map screen. What does the map icon look like?

Answer: A globe

The icon that looks like arrows pointing up and down takes you to the options menu where you can turn sounds on and off as well as choosing whether or not you want to receive requests from people to be your friend or to trade items with you. The chair icon will take you to your inventory screen which is divided up into six areas: credits, furniture, clothing, pins, posters, and codes.

The X icon causes you to exit the game.
3. Okay, now you're on the map screen. From here, you can see all of the lands available on Disney's "Virtual Magic Kingdom". Not counting the "Guest Rooms" area, which is not really a land, how many lands are there?

Answer: Six

The lands found on the game are Main Street, Adventureland, Frontierland, Fantasyland, Tomorrowland, and New Orleans Square. New Orleans Square is the newest land found on the game and it was added in early 2007.
4. If you click on the "New Orleans Square" section of the map screen, you are then taken to a screen that gives you an option of four rooms to choose from. One of those four is a virtual restaurant. You realize you are hungry after all that character creating, so you stop in to grab a bite to eat. What is the name of this restaurant?

Answer: Blue Bayou

The Blue Bayou restaurant includes the non-player character (NPC), the Gator Waiter. He is special compared to the other NPCs because if you sit down at a table in the Blue Bayou and wave, he will come over to you. When he comes over to you, if you say the "magic word", he will put a plate of food on your table. The magic word changes every so often, usually on a monthly basis.
5. Since you've had your fill of some cajun cooking, you're ready to play a game. Which of these games can you get to without having to leave New Orleans Square?

Answer: Haunted Mansion

Originally, before New Orleans Square was added to the game, the Haunted Mansion game could be found in Frontierland. While it is not known for sure why the designers decided to move it, it is almost certain that it was because in Disneyland, this is where the Haunted Mansion can actually be found.

In every real Disney park, the Mansion is located in a different land, so the Haunted Mansion game could have been placed in nearly any land and still be similar to one of the parks.
6. Oops... something popped up on your screen after that game finished, but you accidentally closed it out. Now, an icon at the bottom of your screen is flashing to let you know you have a message. What would this icon look like?

Answer: An envelope

The envelope icon serves two purposes. When you click on it, a window will open up showing you what messages you have received. These could either be notes from friends or alerts telling you that you have won something, such as credits from the Haunted Mansion game. If there is a message waiting for you and the message window isn't open, the envelope icon will flash to let you know something is waiting.

The second purpose of the envelope icon is to show you a list of all of the people who are your friends on the game and whether or not they are online at that moment.
7. As you click on other people standing around, you find that you can see what pins they are wearing. You notice that some of the pins are magic pins, which have a different appearance from other pins because they have between one and five yellow shapes at the bottom of them. What are these shapes?

Answer: Stars

The more stars a magic pin has, the more powerful it is. Every time you use a magic spell, you have to wait a specified period of time before you can use it again. Gaining more stars can do one of two things, depending on which magic spell it is. It can either decrease the wait time or it can make the spell last longer. Stars can be increased by owning more than one of a particular magic and then choosing the "Combine" option in the "Pins" page of your inventory.
8. Now that you've eaten, played some games, and met some people, you decide you would like to check out some of the guest rooms to see what they are like. Which of these rooms will you not find while visiting?

Answer: Spongebob Squarepants Guest Room

Spongebob Squarepants is, of course, not a Disney character, so it is unlikely that you will ever see a room featuring him in the "Virtual Magic Kingdom". The other three rooms have been prizes in the past and the Typhoon Lagoon Guest Room and the Skull Rock room were briefly for sale.
9. While in a guest room, you overhear some people talking about wanting to go play a round of Pirates of the Caribbean. It sounds interesting to you, so you run over to Adventureland to give it a try. Once you join a game, you see that you are given the option to choose one of three ships to play with. Which of these is not one of your choices?

Answer: Titanic

Each ship has its own distinct characteristics. The Wicked Winch is the most offensive of the three ships, but has low defense. The Black Pearl also has low defense, but is faster than the other two ships. The third ship, the Flying Dutchman, is an all-around average ship. It has no strengths, but it has no weaknesses, either.
10. After playing several games of Pirates of the Caribbean, you get a message on your screen that says the "Virtual Magic Kingdom" will be closing in ten minutes. Shocked that a video game would close, you look to see what the game's hours are. For how many hours each day is the game open, under normal circumstances?

Answer: 15

The "Virtual Magic Kingdom" closes in an attempt to mimic the real Disney parks. Specifically, it tries to mimic the hours of Disneyland in Disneyland's time zone, though, of course, in other time zones the hours won't match up exactly. The exception to this rule is usually on New Year's Eve, when the game stays open until midnight, United States Pacific time, to allow people in all time zones of the United States to celebrate New Year's on the game. Don't worry if the game closes.

It will be open again in nine more hours!
