Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Let's start our tour of Disney's "Virtual Magic Kingdom" with the mini-games that can be found here. Beginning in Adventureland with the Jungle Cruise game, as you are cruising down the river, which of these animals can be found in the water?

Answer: Hippo

To play the Jungle Cruise mini-game, you use your arrow keys to steer your boat and your mouse to move the camera lens. You click the left mouse button to take a picture. The goal is to take as many good pictures of animals as you can before they disappear.

The game ends when you make three full laps around the river through Adventureland or when you run out of gas, which happens quicker if you hit rocks (and, in the case of the hippo and an occasional elephant, an animal in the water). You can prevent this by picking up gas cans, as well as film, as they appear in the water.
2. As we continue our tour through Adventureland, we next come to what many players of Disney's "Virtual Magic Kingdom" consider to be their favorite game, the Pirates of the Caribbean game. In this mini-game, after a number of wins, you are awarded a key which will open up a treasure chest and possibly award a prize. How many wins and on which difficulty level does it take to win a GOLD key?

Answer: Three wins on level 3

You have a lot of options when you play the Pirates of the Caribbean mini-game. First, you have the option of choosing to play either Ship Battle (which you play until one team completely destroys all of the other teams ships or until time runs out) or Capture the Flag.

Next, you have the option to choose your ship. Your choices are the Black Pearl, which is exceptionally fast but has exceptionally low defense, the Wicked Winch, which has high attack but also low defense, or the Flying Dutchman, which is a well-rounded ship.

Finally, you have the option of choosing to play a level one game (the default level), a level two game (accessible after ten wins on level one), which features more challenging opponents, or a level three game (accessible after ten wins on level three and then visiting Captain Blackheart in the Pirate Treehouse), which has the most challenging opponent of all.

After three wins on either Ship Battle or Capture the Flag on level one, you win a bronze key. Three wins on either mode of play on level two awards a silver key. Three wins on either mode on the difficult level three awards you with a gold key.
3. Moving to New Orleans Square now for the Haunted Mansion mini-game. Here, there are two teams that compete to catch the most ghosts. According to the game's rules, the colors of the teams are green and what?

Answer: Purple

The object of the Haunted Mansion mini-game is to capture as many ghosts of your color in a vaccuum per two and a half minute round as you can. The game is in a best two out of three format, so even if you lose the first round, you can still win the game.

A trick to the game is that if your opponent touches one of your team's color ghosts, they will become a ghost, themselves, for ten seconds. If you can capture them within those ten seconds, they will add two ghosts to your total.

Looking at the teams, it appears that their colors are green and pink. However, if you take the time to read through the game's rules, you will see that it states that the team colors are green and purple.
4. Our tour now continues to Fantasyland, where we find our final mini-game on Disney's "Virtual Magic Kingdom", the Castle Fireworks Remixed game. It is true that many players find this game to be difficult, but which of these statements about the game is NOT true?

Answer: You can use more than one cursor to hit fireworks

The Castle Fireworks Remixed game is difficult for many players because it tests your reaction time more than any of the other games found in the "Virtual Magic Kingdom". The goal is to make the symbol on your cursor match the symbol of the firework flying through the sky. When the firework symbol changes to a star, click it with perfect timing for the highest score. As you progress through the five levels, more symbols get added for you to choose from so it becomes more difficult. The strategy of this game is so complex that it would take too long to explain it all here.

In the game, you use your arrow keys to select the correct picture of the firework that you need to use, or you have the option of locking the selector in place and having the firework symbols move to it, instead. You can also hit two (or more) fireworks at the same time by hitting the "Explode All" button located at the bottom right of the screen (hitting the space bar will have the same effect). Also, even though it doesn't look like it on your screen because they aren't visible, you do play against other players to see who can get the highest score by the end of the fifth round, which only the top five highest scorers that game can make it to.
5. Now that we have had some experience with the mini-games on the "Virtual Magic Kingdom", it's time to spend the credits that you have earned! On the weekends during most months of the game, a pin will go on sale in a certain shop only for that weekend and then on Monday, the pin is removed. Which shop has the distinction of being the shop with this feature? That one is the next stop on our tour.

Answer: Emporium

Not only does the Emporium make a special pin available for sale most weekends, it gets the majority of new and/or special items that the programmers of the "Virtual Magic Kingdom" make available. These can also include furniture items, clothes, and sometimes even magic pins! You can find all these under the "Specials" tab when you open the shop window.

The version of this shop found on the "Virtual Magic Kingdom" is designed to look like the real Emporium found in Disneyland.
6. Our tour of Disney's "Virtual Magic Kingdom" has led us to the Adventureland Bazaar. From here, which shop can you enter just by walking into it (rather than choosing it from the map screen)?

Answer: Shrunken Ned's

In addition to Shrunken Ned's, the Pirates of the Caribbean game lobby, the Jungle Cruise game lobby, and the Pirate Treehouse (home to Captain Blackheart) are also accessible from the Bazaar. From there, you also have the option of exiting Adventureland and going into the Castle Forecourt, which is on Main Street.
7. This particular shop allows you to give your room a tribal feel by offering tiki items. Which shop is this?

Answer: Shrunken Ned's

I never said we were leaving! I wanted to give you more time to shop around here! The inside of Shrunken Ned's shop looks like a hut with tribal items scattered all around. Shrunken Ned himself, a shrunken head with white hair, a monocle, and a British accent, is hanging from the ceiling and will talk to you as you shop.

In addition to his selection of tiki items, he has other items for sale, such as tribal tables.
8. Now that you have had the opportunity to stock up on tiki items, it's time to bundle up because we have to pass by the Matterhorn and our good friend the Yeti in order to get to our next shop. Which of these shops is nearest to the Yeti?

Answer: "It's A Small World" Imports

"It's A Small World" Imports is the shop that is found inside of Fantasyland. The comedic Yeti's Matterhorn is also found in Fantasyland, just a couple of rooms away.

Usually found in "It's A Small World" Imports are items that you would normally associate with Fantasyland, such as teacup items, glass slipper chairs, and the popular Alice in Wonderland ride pieces. The shop, itself, appears as though it is on a dock where a large ship has just delivered a load of cargo. The ship and it's cargo are both visible in the room, as it the "It's A Small World" ride, if you look in the background.
9. Welcome to Tomorrowland! Unfortunately, I am embarrassed to admit that I forgot that the Inner-Space Shop, which I wanted to take you to next, is not accessible by just anybody. I need to give you a special "Virtual Magic Kingdom" magic pin so you can get in. Which pin do you need to reach the shop?

Answer: Inner-Space Suit Magic (any color)

Yes, the Inner-Space Shop can only be reached by exiting from the bottom of the Space Mountain Quest Deck in Tomorrowland, entering into the Inner-Space Shrinking Machine, putting on your space suit by wearing the magic pin and then clicking on it or saying the word "Space!". From there, you travel to the other side of the room to enter the actual machine which takes you to the shop.

As you would expect from something in Tomorrowland, the inside of the shop looks futuristic, with a robotic cashier, a teleporter, a giant eye looking down on you, and some rocketship couches scattered around. In this shop, you can find various Tomorrowland-themed items, which can include rocketship couches, asteroid chairs, and a futuristic drinking fountain.
10. I apologize again for that mistake in Tomorrowland. That will conclude today's tour, but before we go, I just wanted to know if you noticed something as we went around the "Virtual Magic Kingdom". Which of these lands did not have a shop in it?

Answer: New Orleans Square

Unfortunately, no store can be found in New Orleans Square but, as New Orleans Square is the newest section of the "Virtual Magic Kingdom", one may be added in the future. It is a shame that there isn't one there now because the poor Gator Waiter who works in the Blue Bayou restaurant has to travel all the way to another land to spend his hard-earned paycheck in a shop!

If you were not already aware, you can find the Emporium on Main Street, The Golden Horseshoe Mercantile in Frontierland, Shrunken Ned's in Adventureland, "It's A Small World" Imports in Fantasyland, and, of course, the Inner-Space Shop in Tomorrowland.

Thank you for stopping by for my tour! I hope you had fun!
