In addition to Time Warp and its corresponding special attacks, Lavos uses a more powerful physical attack than the Bits that flanks him and a lightning attack, "Crying Heavens/Hidden Blow".

It is possible to Charm two pairs of Ozzie Pants in the Ozzie's Fort Sidequest: One from the final battle with Ozzie and another from the other battle with him along with (interestingly weaker versions of) Slash and Flea, the latter holding - respectively - a Slasher and Flea Vest for the taking.

The Ozzie Pants are - like the Charmable underpowered Mop Chrono may wield - a joke item, as they inflict the Confuse status on the user.

As the first boss in a standard playthrough of "Chrono Trigger", Yakra's HP pool is low at just 920. Also, his counterattack will not trigger if he is too close to the party. Yakra XIII has a whopping 18,000 HP and a much more deadly counter known as Needle Spin Version XIII.

Frustratingly, the hands are more than decoys in that they contains two of the best pieces of equipment in the game: The Prismatic Helm and Prismatic Dress. When Ayla charms either of them, they will always counter - the Left Hand with always counter with Life Shaver and the Right will retaliate with MP Buster, draining its target of every last MP.

However, the usefulness of this equipment is such that it is advisable to equip her with the Charm Top and have her Charm these items off of the Hands in all three possible opportunities to run through the Black Omen.

His HP on both occasions - his Castle and North Cape - is 6,666. When fought later in the game, many players take the opportunity to acquire him as a party member, declining the fight. However, players who do battle with him will learn that, while that his higher-level Magus boasts superior physical capabilities, his defense and magic defense are poor, worse than the previous iteration in fact.

The Head - with its 0 defense and ability to repair the body - is to depleted of its 600 HP first. While the player needs only destroy the Body (266 HP), it can be difficult to deal more damage than the Head heals. By the time the Head is destroyed, the next target should be the Wheel, which inflicts large multi-target damage.

A manual hinting as to the players' priority being to attack the head if dropped by a castle Soldier before the fight.

Answer: Lavos Core

This makes those accessories wise choices on Ayla or Chrono, as it allows for the possibility of one additional attack every time the Lavos Core shuts off or activates it defense. Additionally, it will counter the Central Bit every time it uses Time Warp.

As such, it is advisable to only dispatch two of three Monitors. Alternatively, Lucca may use use Hypno Wave to put all the Monitors to sleep, rendering them unable to heal Mother Brain. After using Upgrade, her techs such as Dark Beam will deal massive damage. The player must fight her with Robo a member of their party, as with the rest of this sidequest.

The Bits that flank Guardian, however, have no resistance and just 200 HP apiece. As such, it is advisable to defeat them before the Guardian is given the opportunity to use Delta Attack and Amplifier. After both are taken care of, there is still a sense of urgency, as the Guardian will quickly revive them, similar to Giga Gaia, which restores life to both of its arms.

Interestingly, the vulgar Sir Krawlie can be fought early in the game with an unnecessary trip through the Sewers on the players' first visit to 2300 AD. In this case, he may actually pose something of a challenge if not taken seriously, as he has an attack which will bring a party member's HP down to one. If not fought until the player must travel through to Mount Woe, he is comically weak.

This - along with the fact that he has no item to Charm - suggests that he is intended to fight early on.

The name of the game is eliminating as many targets simultaneously as possible; Once two R-Series are defeated, it will counter with an attack that throws one party member into another damaging both. The most effective way to do this may well be Lucca's Fire Whirl, which will target three of them in a straight line.

Unfortunately, Robo - having been tossed down the compactor by his comrades - is not available for this fight, so the player does not have access to the multi-target Laser Spin.

Other than Water Wave, Heckran is capable of using two Water Spells - Cyclone and the Weaker Bubble - along with the physical attack Yes indeed!

The player is to pay close attention to which enemy they target with elemental spells, as the top is weak to Water, Ice, and Shadow, while it will absorb Fire and Light. Meanwhile, the bottom half is the inverse. Kill the latter first, as the top will use MP Buster upon defeat.

This is the case with Nizbel on both occasions that it is fought. Masamune has its own multitarget spell that does big damage if not negated by a Slash tech from Chrono. Azala's only real threat in terms of damage is her Kinesis ability to levitate a target and drop it.

Since this fight comes immediately before the actual boss battle, the player should defeat the Juggler with a character that has little to no MP or little use for magic. The workaround for Juggler's gimmick is to defeat it with a counterattack, in which case it will not use MP Buster.

After forcing Ozzie to flee at Zenan Bridge, Chrono's player confronts him again at Magus' Castle. Here, the player must attack all four of the switches around him before he plummets through the floor. Attacking Ozzie instead has no benefit and results in his countering.

Answer: "King" Dalton - second battle

Azala awards 1,800, but no Gold. For both the Golem and Golem Boss fights - though not the Golem Twins - It is possible to advance past them, without winning. However, the Boss will award if 2,500 XP and 2,000 Gold if defeated before self-destructing. Dalton, fought immediately afterwards, awards the same - which is more than his previous version.

The Mud Beast fight awards 954 XP and 2,600 Gold.

The Golem Boss - which Dalton earlier bluffed about summoning - is in fact a joke fight with a lot to gain and nothing to lose. He rewards goods XP and Gold, but must be depleted of his whopping 15,000 HP before he gets the opportunity to flee, which he will do after counting down from five twice and complaining of his fear of heights.

This version of Lavos has 30,000 HP, triple that of the version the player would fight elsewhere. Additionally, it is scripted to use a powerful spell "Destruction rains from the heavens!" almost immediately, followed by a confusion spell. If the player can defeat Lavos here, they have the opportunity to achieve the Programmer's Ending.

However, many players accessed this cutscene without defeating Ocean Palace Lavos, as it's possible to trigger it by defeating Lavos by facing off with him from a warp using the right pod of the Time Machine at the Millennial Fair - also a challenge due to the fact that the player will have just Chrono and (possibly) Marle in their party.

Dalton only uses this attack when fought in Zeal Palace. It is a multitarget attack which deals about 150 HP to everyone in the party. As such, it is possible to lose even after defeating Dalton.

Answer: Haste Helm and Guardian Helm

The Haste Helm is acquired from the Mouth, while the Guardian Helm is charmed from the Shell, which can be problematic, considering the fact that the latter will retaliate when targeted with any technique. The standard Lavos Spawn enemies yield an Elixir when the Mouth is Charmed, a lesser reward from a lesser foe - Just 4,000 HP, as opposed to Elder's 10,000.

Answer: Terra Mutant

The Terra Mutant boasts 27,800 HP, 20,000 of which is allocated to the lower half. While the top has just 7,800, winning the fight requires defeating it. However, as for the Giga and Mega Mutants, the top halves have more HP. Retinite, which has cumulatively just over 10,000 HP, is perhaps more deadly than any of the mutants, as is it is immune to all elemental magic and constantly absorbs energy from its core.

Since the countdown culminates with a fire attack, dealing big damage is priority here - and plenty of it; Rust Tyrano has 25,000 HP! A common strategy is to equip the Red Vest or Mail to absorb said fire attack.
