Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. One of the things that stands out the most about Uxie would be its titanic Defense and Special Defense stats, sharing the same value. What was Uxie's Defense and Special Defense?

Answer: 130

Uxie is slightly bulkier than Cresselia and is only a small bit behind Lugia - sharing the same Defense stat as the latter while trailing it slightly in Special Defense. Between the three Lake Guardians, it is clear that Uxie truly embodies the concept of being a "Guard"ian!
2. In its debut generation, Uxie was a natural fit at home for being an excellent Utility Wall. Its movepool was expansive, but it was sadly missing just one move that would've made Uxie unquestionably elite. What move was this?

Answer: Recover, or one of its clones

As is the case with all too many bulky utility Pokémon, Uxie does not have a way to heal itself apart from the horrifically unwieldy Rest/Sleep Talk combination. Combined with its auspicious Psychic typing, weak to numerous common offensive attacks, and Uxie was not a good choice to be an outright Wall.

Its great bulk and utility-laden movepool made it into a wonderful Utility Wall, however. It was capable of setting Stealth Rock, dual screens, spreading status, pivoting in teammates with U-Turn, and removing opposing items via Knock Off.
3. Nearly every Pokémon across competitive history has had to deal with a counter, and Uxie has not been an exception. Which Pokémon of the following, in Uxie's debut generation, could reliably switch directly into it and claim victory?

Answer: Tyranitar

Salamence, Gyarados and Garchomp can definitely achieve this against specific Uxie sets. However, the former two would be heavily crippled to the point of total uselessness if the Uxie player predicted their switch in and used Thunder Wave. The latter would also struggle to come out on top if Uxie landed a Yawn as it came in, as Uxie could wear Garchomp down with repeated Psychics after sleep took effect and eventually win.

However, Tyranitar is totally resilient to just about anything Uxie tries to do. The worst Uxie can do to Tyranitar is either Toxic it, which would not allow it to defeat Tyranitar at all, or use Memento to significantly lower T-Tar's offenses, but sacrifice Uxie in the process without actually defeating T-Tar. In return, Tyranitar can just spam Pursuit brainlessly, as Uxie lacks any way of actually deterring or punishing it from doing this. Tyranitar can also just delete Uxie from existence with a Choice Banded Crunch. Therefore, once in, Tyranitar can easily remove Uxie from play, and it can be aggressively switched in easily to achieve this as well.
4. As a defensive stalwart, Uxie's ability suits it well. What is Uxie's ability?

Answer: Levitate

Like the other Lake Guardians, Uxie is totally immune to Ground type attacks thanks to Levitate. When paired with its massive defenses, Uxie can easily switch in to most Ground types across any metagame thanks to Levitate, granting it stellar defensive utility.
5. In actuality, Uxie is totally outclassed by Cresselia and Lugia from a walling perspective. However, Uxie was able to carve out a niche in the Uber tier for the fourth generation in spite of this fact. Uxie's access to one move gave it great utility alongside the titans of the game, letting it really hang with the big boys. What one move was this, unique to Uxie amongst its fellow Lake Guardians?

Answer: Memento

Memento lowers the Attack and Special Attack of the target by two stages, and sacrifices the user in the process. While it may seem like a niche move, Memento was of great use to hyper offensive teams. Uxie's poor attacking stats suggest it would be a poor fit for such an archetype, but its massive utility in being a suicide lead for these builds or a dual screen setter made it widely appreciated on these teambuilds. For the former, Uxie could set Stealth Rock, and then Memento to give a teammate a free switch in with Stealth Rock on the field and the opponent severely crippled - a prime opportunity for, say, Rayquaza to boost with Dragon Dance, or Extreme Killer Arceus with Swords Dance. Being a dual-screen setter was pretty straight forward, and it was something Uxie's great bulk let it do very well. Similarly to the suicide lead strategy, Uxie could come in, use Reflect and Light Screen accordingly, Memento on the opponent, then bring in the end-game sweeper to bring the victory home. Thus, Uxie was a great pick for Ubers on hyper offensive teams in the fourth generation.
6. A wide number of Pokémon gained access to Dream World abilities in the fifth generation. Like its fellow Lake Guardians, Uxie did not receive a new ability. Thankfully, it did not need it at all, as the fifth generation did grant it access to yet another incredible utility option to support defensively inclined teams. What new move did Uxie get here?

Answer: Heal Bell

Heal Bell instantly cures Uxie and its teammates of any status afflictions they may have suffered. With Wish support from an ally such as Chansey or Alomomola, Uxie could now be an amazing cleric for stall teams across standard play, UnderUsed or its new native tier, RarelyUsed.
7. Uxie would unfortunately descend a little in competitive tiering in the sixth generation, as it was no longer standard play viable here. In UnderUsed, Uxie faced extreme competition from another bulky Psychic type legendary Pokémon, which made Uxie rather difficult to justify using. What Pokémon overshadowed Uxie here?

Answer: Cresselia

Cresselia was slightly bulkier than Uxie, had Moonlight for reliable, instant recovery, and was slightly more offensively potent and could craft a viable, bulky Calm Mind sweeping set, giving it versatility. Uxie could set Stealth Rock and gather momentum with U-Turn, but that was about all it could do that Cresselia could not.

This was often not enough to justify using Uxie over Cresselia.
8. In the sixth generation, Uxie ran into a lot of trouble via numerous counters which became quite common in UnderUsed. Which of the following is an example?

Answer: Steel type Pokemon in general

Steel types of all kinds did not fear a single thing Uxie could do to them. Many of them held the common trait of being naturally slow and thus, not too affected by Thunder Wave. Bronzong and Metagross are a couple examples of Pokémon whom Uxie could not touch at all. Bronzong was barely tickled by a 4x resisted Psyshock. To put into perspective, Bronzong's Leftovers heal it for 6% HP every turn, which triples the damage Psyshock would do to it, meaning Uxie literally cannot KO Bronzong at all. Escavalier is an offensively oriented example who also takes next to nothing from Psyshock, and can then obliterate Uxie with Megahorn or trap and remove it from play with Pursuit. Mega Aggron can use Uxie as setup fodder for either Curse or Stealth Rock. Really, Uxie cannot touch Steel types at all regardless of who they may be, and a player looking to use Uxie must keep this in mind as they prepare their team.
9. Uxie returned to standard play with a vengeance in the seventh generation, with a brand new set courtesy of yet another newly acquired move. What move was this?

Answer: Trick Room

Uxie could combine Trick Room with Memento to be an excellent Trick Room setter for standard play's numerous hyper offensive teams. It had access to Stealth Rock, and could thereby act as a hyper offensive Trick Room team's suicide lead if so desired.

While Cresselia could also set Trick Room, it could not set Stealth Rock and Lunar Dance is not useful at the start of the battle unlike Memento, thus enabling Uxie to clearly distinguish itself from Cresselia in this role.
10. Unfortunately, even in its seventh generation renaissance, Uxie was troubled by yet another counter. Who was the perpetrator this time?

Answer: Mega Sableye

Mega Sableye could block Stealth Rock, force Uxie to sacrifice itself for nothing via bouncing back Memento, and actually took advantage of the Trick Room Uxie set thanks to its pathetic Speed stat. Uxie's only form of recourse was to Skill Swap Mega Sableye's ability anyway, but this forced it to give up a valuable utility move that would significantly hinder Uxie's viability, and was thus generally not worth it.
