Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. In what year did development on "Minecraft" begin?

Answer: 2009

"Notch", or Markus Persson, created this game and also made his own company, "Mojang". This game was inspired by other games such as "Infiniminer".
2. Which of these is not a passive mob?

Answer: Skeleton

"Skeleton" is correct because skeletons are hostile and can attack you; cows, chickens, and pigs will not attack anything. When you attack a cow, chicken, or pig, they will not retaliate and they will simply run around. This is why they are called "passive mobs"; they just pass by.
3. What color is the portal that leads to The Nether?

Answer: Purple

When you create an obsidian frame and light a fire inside the frame, it will create a portal. This portal will lead to the Nether, which is a hostile dimension filled with dangerous enemies, fire, and lava. If the original texture pack is used, then you will see that the portal is purple.
4. What item does a spider usually drop upon death?

Answer: String

Feathers are dropped by chickens, bones are dropped by skeletons, and gunpowder is dropped by creepers. String can be used to make a multiple of things like a fishing rod or wool. Feathers can be used to make arrows, bones can be used to make "bone meal" which can speed up the growth of crops, and gunpowder can be used to make TNT, or Trinitrotoluene.
5. What is the correct name of the biome that is characterized as having little or no trees, having snow, and being generally flat?

Answer: Ice Plains

When F3 is pressed, the name of the biome you are currently in will appear on the screen. A biome in "Minecraft" is an area where characteristics such as plant color, weather, and terrain are different. For example, a desert is mostly flat, is made of sand, and has a lack of rain.
6. What were the first two mobs that were added in the game?

Answer: Skeleton and Zombie

Originally, they could not attack the player, but now they do. Pigs and sheep were added later in the game. Creepers and spiders were also added later in the game. "Zombies and pigs" is wrong because although zombies were first added in the game, pigs were added later.
7. What is the item ID for a fishing rod?

Answer: 346

327 is the item ID for a lava bucket, 276 is the item ID for a diamond sword, and 352 is the item ID for a bone. An item ID is the code that helps the game identify what each item is.
8. Which of these is not one of the titles of a music disc?

Answer: near

"near" is not a name of one of the music discs that exist in "Minecraft".
"ward", "cat", and "mellohi" are all names of music discs. A music disc is a disc that, when put in a jukebox, will play music. A jukebox is made out of eight wooden planks and one diamond. "ward" and "mellohi" were added in the game in "Minecraft" Beta Version 1.9. "cat" was in the game ever since Alpha.
9. Which of these was not an addition to the game in the "Indev" version of "Minecraft"?

Answer: Cows

Paintings, third-person view, and farming were added in the "Indev" version. The "Indev" version of "Minecraft" took place a while back, when the game was first created. In fact, "Indev" was another way of saying "in development" because "Notch" was working on the game so it would be developed into the game it is today.
10. What is the value of the number of music discs subtracted from the number of the different colors of wool, multiplied by one-eighth the maximum height of the world, divided by the number of bosses, added to the number of the different types of ore, and subtracted by the item ID of a chest?

Answer: Seventeen

The number of different music discs is twelve (cat, 13, ward, far, stal, strad, wait, 11, mall, chirp, mellohi, and blocks), the number of the different colors of wool is sixteen (white, light gray, gray, black, red, orange, yellow, lime, green, cyan, light blue, blue, purple, magenta, pink, and brown), the maximum height of the world is 256, the number of bosses is two (Enderdragon and Wither), the number of the different types of ore is seven (coal, iron, gold, diamond, lapis lazuli, redstone, and emerald), and the item ID of a chest is 54. If you did the math correctly, you would have gotten seventeen as the final answer.
