Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
Answer:

The "Grand Theft Auto" series that includes the aforementioned "Vice City" released in 2002 would influence many games that utilised similar mechanics.

"Saints Row: The Third", developed by Volition and published by THQ in 2011, would take the "Grand Theft Auto" formula and ramp it up to cartoonish extreme levels, with weapons such as a sex toy bat and a vehicle called the "Genki Manapult" which would hoover up pedestrians and allow you to fire them into buildings, other pedestrians or across the map.

"True Crime: New York City" and its spiritual successor "Sleeping Dogs" switched the formula by taking the open-world game with shooting and driving and making you the undercover cop rather than the criminal. The latter, set in Hong Kong, was released to critical acclaim in 2012 and differentiates itself from the "GTA" franchise by including parkour, environmental attacks and martial arts combat.

"GTA's" influence on popular culture might be most apparent on "The Simpsons: Hit and Run", an open world game that allows you to play as multiple characters from the television show and kick and mow down some of your favourite characters. Fun.

Rockstar games like "Red Dead Redemption", "LA Noire" and "Bully" would all follow a similar open-world linear formula to "Grand Theft Auto" but innovate by changing the setting. "Red Dead Redemption" was set in the wild west American frontier in 1911 and replaced cars with horses. "LA Noire" contained the driving, open world and gunplay of other Rockstar Games, but you played as an LAPD detective called Cole Phelps set in 1947, who would solve crimes through crime scene investigations and suspect interrogations. Actively going out of your way to create criminal damage would lead to a reduced case score, so clean play is encouraged.

"Bully" generated much outrage and controversy but for little reason. The story takes place in a boarding school where you control 15-year-old Jimmy Hopkins as he navigates his first year through school. The guns of "Grand Theft Auto" were replaced by slingshots and cars replaced by skateboards and bicycles. Despite the name, your character works with the nerds who are being bullied to put an end to the bullying.
