Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. What direction is Gerudo Valley located in (according to your map)?

Answer: West

Gerudo Valley, home of the Gerudos and some construction workers, is located in the western desert. Located within this desert is the Goddess of Sand, the resting home of the Spirit Temple and two witches. Link must hookshot himself over a sea of quicksand (only discovering that he must also follow an invisible ghost in order to reach the Spirit Temple). But, in order to even access the desert, Link will have to become a Gerudo thief himself, dodging female guards and battling Gerudo ninjas. If Link gets caught by a female guard (or if he finds himself being held under a special sword trick that the Gerudo ninjas possess) he will be thrown into a jail. To exit, Link simply has to hookshot his way up onto a ledge by finding a wooden gutter.
2. Where can you find the Great Fairy that grants you Farore's Wind?

Answer: Zora's Fountain

Farore's Wind grants you the ability to warp around! If you set a warp point by using Farore's Wind (and costing magic power as well) in a temple, and as long as you remain in the temple, you can reset and revert back to a warp point you've created. This definitely becomes useful for the Water Temple, as players are able to return to a warp point easily, rather than having to swim and sink through water. You can find the owner of this magic power hidden near Zora's Fountain. If you swim directly across the fountain, you will reach a couple of large rocks in front of an odd wall. Link can throw a bomb at this wall, and once it explodes you are able to access the Great Fairy's fountain.
3. In how many locations (other than shops) are you able to find a man selling magic beans?

Answer: One

This fat character, also known as the "Bean Seller", sells magic beans to anyone who wanders by Zora's River. Each time Link asks to buy magic beans, the price increases by ten rupees. These colorful pods (after being planted and waiting seven years) grow into plants that fly and allow Link to reach inaccessible places. Such places often contain heart pieces that Link can add to his inventory.

Unfortunately, Link is only able to buy up to ten magic beans (corresponding to the ten patches of soil scattered around Hyrule).

After that, the Bean Seller is all sold out.
4. What type of Hylian creatures must you kill in order to access the elevator in the Forest Temple?

Answer: Poes

After he retrieves his Hero's Bow from the temple, Link will have to shoot arrows at pictures of poes. After all the pictures (usually up to three in each "Poe Room") are shot at, the poe will emerge out of the wall for Link to battle. After he kills the poe, one segment of colored fire will be returned to the central room. Link will have to repeat this process for another poe.

As for one, Link will have to complete a block puzzle (forming the picture of a poe) in order for the third poe to appear. Once this poe is defeated and Link returns to the central room, he will find a purple poe spinning and floating overtop the elevator's roof. Following a battle, Link will have to (you guessed it) shoot one out of the three other "fake" poes a numerous amount of times before the elevator rises out of the ground and becomes accessible.
5. How do you earn the Water Tunic from King Zora?

Answer: Empty a bottle of Blue Fire beside him

After conquering the Ice Cavern and receiving the Iron Boots, Link will have to bottle some blue fire from within the Ice Cavern and bring it back to Zora's Domain. He will discover that Princess Ruto's father, King Zora, is encased around red ice (which can only be melted by blue fire). If Link empties his bottle of blue fire beside the frozen King, the giant Zora will reward Link with the Water Tunic.

This blue tunic allows Link to breathe underwater, which becomes very helpful in the next dungeon Link will have to conquer (the Water Temple).

However, if Link doesn't choose to bottle blue fire and bring it back to King Zora, he can melt the entrance to the Zora's Shop (...using blue fire) and buy a Water Tunic himself. Although, this is a very pricey option, and you'll need to bottle blue fire either way.
6. What must you do in order to enter the lair to Queen Gohma?

Answer: Stun three Deku Scrubs in a specific order

Queen Gohma is the first boss you will encounter on your quest to find Princess Zelda. Like the first three dungeons young Link will have to conquer, there is no boss key you need to acquire. However, early in the Great Deku Tree you will cross paths with a Deku Scrub (who will look around and shoot Deku Nuts at you). To receive a puzzle hint that will come handy from the Deku Scrub, you will have to deflect it's Deku Nuts back at it with your shield.

After moving onto his flower, the little scrub will tell you a secret that will become useful in entering Queen Gohma's lair.

When you enter the basement by lighting a cobweb on fire and jumping down a hole, you will encounter three Deku Scrubs. The Deku Scrub you have previously fought will have told you which order you will need to stun his "brothers" in.

The last Deku Scrub you stun will trance around the room for a short while, so this is the time Link should step on its flower. When the scrub returns, he will unlock the door to Queen Gohma's lair before saying, "I'm sorry, Queenie!".
7. How much can the Hylian Shield cost?

Answer: You can get it for free

If you've managed to search through every grave in the graveyard of Kakariko, you will have discovered that you can get the Hylian shield for free. To save yourself 80 rupees in cash, go to a grave with flowers (it should be the first one you see once you enter the graveyard). Pull it back and enter the grave. If you see a human floating in the air, you've entered the wrong grave, as this man will give you the hookshot. Once you're in the right grave, a chest will be waiting for you.

This chest contains a free Hylian shield!
8. What mask, borrowed during a large trading sequence, allows Link to obtain a Deku Nut upgrade?

Answer: Mask of Truth

This optional side quest offers Link two upgrades; a Deku Stick upgrade (allowing Link to carry up to 10 more sticks, this upgrade is obtained after presenting the Skull Mask to an audience of Deku Scrubs) and the Deku Nut upgrade. But before you get too excited, you will need to trade the Keaton Mask to the guard, well, guarding the trail to Death Mountain.

After this, the Skull Mask will become obtainable. To get the Mask of Truth, Link will have to trade the Skull Mask with the Skull Kid (who dwells within the Lost Woods).

After this, Link will need to borrow the Spooky Mask and sell it to the Graveyard Boy (who watches over Kakariko's graveyard during the day). After this, Link can borrow the Bunny Hood from the mask shop and sell it to the Running Man (who runs around Hyrule during the day and night).

He will give you all the money he has for the Bunny Hood (which, evidently, exceeds past the hold of the largest wallet Link can obtain). Now, four masks will become available at the Happy Mask shop. One of which is the Mask of Truth. Link will have to trudge through the Lost Woods and find the Forest Meadow.

A hole will be found hidden within tall grass where butterflies flutter nearby. This hole leads to the Forest Stage. Wearing the Mask of Truth in front of the audience of Deku Scrubs scares them. If Link talks to the leader, he will offer him a Deku Nut upgrade (holding up to 10 more than you could handle before). However, in earlier versions of Ocarina of Time, Link can only obtain this upgrade before he pulls out the Master Sword. If Link is an adult and goes back in time to do this side quest, it won't work.
9. Which poe sister owns a blue flame?

Answer: Beth

Beth is the second of the four poe sisters (of the Forest Temple) that you must defeat. She carries a blue flame with her, and is as easily defeatable as her orange sister, Joelle. In order to defeat her, Link must shoot three pictures of Beth with his arrows. Only then will Beth come out of the picture and float to a lower level for Link to battle with. Like a regular poe, Beth is able to turn invisible at will. Once she spots Link in her transparent form, she will start spinning her flame towards Link. Link can either block this attack with his shield or jump out of the way. Beth can be shot with arrows, a hookshot, or can be stabbed by Link's sword once she becomes visible. Once defeated, Beth's blue flame will return back to the main room.
10. What can Link find inside the large jug located in Goron City?

Answer: Heart Piece

This large jug, having three faces sketched onto it, is able to be activated once Link lights all of the torches on the bottom level of Goron City. You can tell the jug is activated if it's spinning and making sounds. To get the prizes hidden inside the jug, Link must travel to the second level of Goron City and throw a bomb into the jug (this can be tricky, so it might take some practice). If you want, Link is also able to use a nearby bomb flower.

However, once the bomb explodes inside the jug, it will start spinning like mad. Like a roll of the die, it can either stop spinning on a very happy face, a neutral face, or a mad face. Link will only be able to obtain the heart piece if the jug stops on the very happy face.

Otherwise, Link will just get rupees and sometimes even bombs thrown at him.
11. Which fiend is only found in the Spirit Temple?

Answer: Anubis

Anubis are strange enemies; they rise up to the ceiling and shoot fireballs at Link if he is (otherwise) not protecting himself. Found in the Spirit Temple, the only way Link can kill the enemy is with their own defence mechanism - fire. Link can use either Din's Fire, a fire arrow, or he can lure an Anubis into a fire ring (stepping onto a switch beforehand).

In one of the rooms inside the Spirit Temple, the only way to proceed is to get rid of all the Anubis (and Beamos) in the room. Annoyingly enough, Anubis can block narrow pathways where Link must access, so he is forced to defeat the enemy.

Interesting enough, the Anubis moves similar to Link; the creature attacks with fire when Link tries to attack and moves in the opposite direction Link is moving.
12. What can you do for the "Fabulous Five Froggish Tenors" to get a heart piece?

Answer: Play notes on your Ocarina to the corresponding frogs, giving them the ability to eat a butterflies

The "Fabulous Five Froggish Tenors" live within Zora's river. If link stands on a strange looking log, Navi will comment that there are frogs below the water looking at him. If he chooses to whip out his ocarina, all five frogs will stand on their respective platforms and will wait for Link to play a tune.

Here, Link can earn two heart pieces (one must be earned in order to obtain the next) by playing all of his non-warp songs to the frogs, making them grow in size. Once finished and all five frogs are large, they will reward Link with a heart piece. If Link returns to the log after earning this heart piece, all the frogs will jump on their platforms again (except this time, they're large).

After talking to the leader, Link will have to play a minigame. Each frog corresponds to a button on the player's console's controller (for the Nintendo 64, these will be the C buttons and the A button). Upon playing the minigame, Link will see a butterfly hovering above a frog's head.

The player will have to hit the button on their controller that corresponds to the frog. If Link (and the player) act quick enough and all the butterflies are eaten, the leader of the frog group will reward Link with another heart piece.
13. Where do most invisible holes lead to in the Bottom of the Well?

Answer: Basement

Above most of the holes in this dungeon is a creepy face that is able to communicate with Link, evidently warning him of the invisible hole below. "Danger Below" is typically what it will say to Link, but it will also say "Danger Above" if there is a Skulltula hidden in the ceiling above Link. If Link falls down a hole, he will arrive in the basement. Depending on where he falls from, Link will have to blow up boulders in front of him with the "Goron's special crop" (or just a bomb).

Then, Link will encounter many Redeads along the way guarding a pool of poison (where Redead arms reach out, creepily enough). Following this will be a classic Zelda puzzle; Link will have to collect all of the silver rupees available in the basement in order to unlock a door the leads to the main floor.

However, Link can just warp outside of the well and return (although this methods takes up more time).
14. How many Gold Skulltulas must Link collect in order to obtain the Giant's Wallet?

Answer: Thirty

Gold Skulltulas are found all around Hyrule and typically come out at night. Although some more obvious skulltulas are found in temples, many are scattered around the Lost Woods, Lake Hylia, Zora's River (and Domain), so I'm pretty sure it's safe to say that they're everywhere.

After collecting ten Gold Skulltula tokens, Link can free a cursed "Skulltula Child" from their curse. This person will give Link the Adult's Wallet, which is able to hold up to two hundred rupees. A curse will be broken on a Skulltula Child for each ten tokens he collects; twenty tokens collected will grant Link the Stone of Agony; thirty tokens will grant Link the Giant's Wallet (able to hold up to five hundred rupees); forty tokens will grant Link bombchus; fifty tokens collected will grant Link a heart piece.

After that, each ten tokens Link collects will earn him two hundred rupees. There are a total of one hundred Gold Skulltula's in Hyrule.
15. What object is part of the Biggoron's trading sequence?

Answer: Odd Potion

The Odd Potion is made from the Odd Mushroom that Link delivers to the old "hag" living in Kakariko Village. This trading sequence will grant Link the Biggoron's sword if done correctly. This sword does twice the damage that the Master Sword emits and doesn't break! The unfortunate thing about this side-quest is that there are three time limits; one for when Link has to deliver an Odd Mushroom to the old hag in Kakariko village before the mushroom spoils (three minutes), one for when Link has to deliver an Eyeball Frog to the old scientist in Lake Hylia before the frog turns bad(three minutes), and one for when Link has to deliver the Eyedrops to the Biggoron on top of Death Mountain before the preservatives spoil the drops (four minutes). Unfortunately, if Link doesn't deliver anything within these time limits then he will have to start over. Thanks for viewing this quiz, and there are more to come!
