Renee is the culprit. Once Nancy gets the crystal skull in Bruno Bolet's crypt, Renee shows up and tells Nancy to throw up the skull so she can help her out. Nancy, not suspecting Renee, tosses up the skull. Renee then leaves her for dead, but Nancy solves a puzzle concocted by Bruno to escape death.

She then heads for the swamp to stop Renee from getting away. Arriving at the swamp, Nancy kicks the log to awake Bernie, and Bernie scare Renee, who drops the skull into Bernie's wide open mouth.
