The ascot is part of the costume of the Jolly Rogers krewe. According to Gilbert Buford, Bruno's doctor, krewes help to put on the parades in New Orleans for Mardi Gras.

We learn from Lamont, the owner of Zeke's, a curio shop in the French Quarter, that hoodoo objects are a great sell for him. Another hoodoo item in his store is "magical toast".

Almost exact replicas of a human skull, legends claim that there are thirteen crystal skulls scattered around the world. These skulls are very curious because modern lasers and technology can't replicate the perfection seen in the skulls. A Native American legend says when 12 skulls are arranged in a circle, with the 13th skull in the center, they will tell the destiny of humankind and reveal ancient secrets.

Some people also believe that these skulls possess strange magical properties.

Jean Lafitte was a famous pirate in the early 19th century. Since the krewe is the Jolly Rogers, another name for a pirate's flag, this usage of the name makes sense.

Bess gets in without a problem, unless you don't know the right password. Unfortunately for Bess, her cell phone goes off right in the middle of the meeting and she is discovered.

Answer: Renee Amande

After finding The Whisperer underneath Bruno's crypt, the door starts to close on Nancy, trapping her underground. Renee shows up and tells Nancy to throw the skull up to her so that she can help Nancy escape. As soon as she has the skull, she abandons Nancy presumably to die. Unfortunately for Renee, Bruno thought of everything and installed a memory game in the crypt so that whoever found the skull could return to the surface.

Answer: Bruno's pet alligator, Bernie

Renee tries to escape in her boat, but Nancy catches her before she leaves the bank. And, just like all villains, Renee starts to monologue. While she talks, you, as Nancy, bump the log Bernie responds to and he scares Renee. As she gasps, she loses her grip on the skull and the skull is swallowed by Bernie.
