Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. What animal is found frozen in ice near Saarthal?

Answer: Mammoth

This is one of many locations within the game that is not marked on the map. The mammoth has a two-handed weapon embedded in its back; the material it is made of (and thus its power) is dependent on the player's level.
2. In which hold can one find a pool of water with a skeletal hand holding a sword sticking out of it?

Answer: Whiterun

In yet another unmarked location, one can find this Easter egg northeast of Bleakwind Basin. As one can guess, this is a reference to the Lady of the Lake from Arthurian lore. Like the frozen mammoth, the type of sword is dependent on the player's level.
3. Which bandit cave has a saber cat contained in a cage?

Answer: Lost Knife Hideout

Deep within the Lost Knife Hideout is a room with many cages and a large pit. One of the cages holds a saber cat. If the player frees the saber cat, it will aid the player in killing all the bandits. However, once all the bandits are cleared, it will then attack the player.
4. There are two entrances to the Thieves' Guild.

Answer: True

The player will first enter the Thieves' Guild through the Ratway, a series of underground tunnels beneath Riften. The tunnels then lead to the Ragged Flagon, which has the Thieves' Guild right behind it. The second, more direct route is through a secret entrance located in the cemetery next to Mistveil Keep.
5. Which mine connects to a dragon's lair?

Answer: Northwind Mine

When the player goes through Northwind Mine, they emerge at Northwind Summit. The lair has a dragon (of course) and a word wall with one of the words for the Aura Whisper shout.
6. Which capital city has the fewest intact buildings?

Answer: Winterhold

After counting the number of buildings in each city, Winterhold has the fewest with a grand total of five. There are several ruined houses, but those are not counted. The reason Winterhold is so small is because of the Great Collapse, where most of Winterhold fell into the sea. Strangely, the College of Winterhold remained standing. Due to Winterhold's small size, one cannot purchase a home there, even with the "Hearthfire" DLC.
7. Whiterun has two forges.

Answer: True

Indeed, there are two forges in the city of Whiterun. The first is just inside the gates, near the weapons/armor shop Warmaiden's. The other is the Skyforge, which is the only forge where one can make Nord Hero weapons and Ancient Nord armor.
8. In what city does the Dark Brotherhood questline begin?

Answer: Windhelm

The Dark Brotherhood questline begins when a child in Windhelm named Aventus Aretino attempts to summon a member of the Dark Brotherhood, thus mistaking the player for one. He sends the player to kill Grelod the Kind in Riften, thus starting a chain of quests to either join or destroy the Dark Brotherhood.
9. When the player approaches Valtheim Towers, what does the bandit outside demand the player to do?

Answer: Give her 200 gold

The bandit outside Valtheim Towers claims the road nearby to be a toll road, and thus demands payment before they player can use it. The player then has several options. He can either hand over the gold, persuade her to dropping the price to 50 gold, or attempt to intimidate her into letting him pass for free (although the game still takes 200 gold due to a bug).

This can be avoided entirely if the player is riding a horse.
10. Which camp contains the tome for the Alteration spell Transmute?

Answer: Halted Stream Camp

If one wants to make a decent amount of money early on in the game, the Halted Stream Camp located north of Whiterun is an excellent place to go. The tome is located within the mine located at the back of the camp, and the spell allows the player to turn iron ore into silver ore, and then silver ore into gold ore. Since the cave has sixteen veins of iron ore, this allows the player to generate a very large amount of gold ore that can then be smithed into ingots and crafted into jewelry. Also, it seems transmuting iron isn't the only thing the bandits are doing.

The back of the cave has a giant pit filled with spikes, obviously to poach mammoths.
