Vincent and Yuffie are seen in Midgar in the opening cinematic in the game. Vincent discovers a remaining life form high atop the Shinra Headquarters building and goes up to investigate. He finds a man in a white lab coat, presumably Hojo. As he positions to fire at him, he is distracted by a helicopter, and then turns back to see that the figure has disappeared.

Answer: The Protomateria

Vincent enters the rendezvous point where he is supposed to meet up with Reeve, only to be confronted by Shelke and Azul of the Tsviets. A brief cutscene is shown in which Shelke commands Vincent to reveal the location of the Protomateria. Confused, Vincent decides to ward off his enemies, and in doing so causes Shelke to collapse. Azul then introduces himself to Vincent as a warning and then carries Shelke away.

Answer: Shalua

Vincent first encounters Shalua in Edge, who at the time is apparently searching for something. After a brief conversation about the town, Shalua wishes Vincent luck as she continues searching for her "reason to live".

Answer: Rosso the Crimson

Vincent encounters the bloodthirsty Rosso for the first time in Edge. Unlike Shelke and Azul, who simply demand the Protomateria from Vincent, Rosso offers a quick death in exchange for cooperation. She and Vincent begin to fight, but Rosso is far quicker than he is. Choas is then released from inside Vincent and disposes of Rosso. Chaos then recedes back inside Vincent, who then collapses and is later found by Shalua.

Answer: Shelke

As Vincent and Reeve ake their way through a corridor in the building, Shalua notices a transparent figure following them. Shelke then reveals herself after being spotted. It is revealed that Shelke is Shalua's younger sister, (her "reason to live"). She says that after being kidnapped nine years earlier, she joined Deepground to seek revenge on the sister who had abandoned her.

Answer: Azul

Azul chases Vincent and Reeve into a hanger where Vincent finds a missile launcer and fires at Azul. This breaks Azul's barrier, and Vincent defeats Azul in combat, rendering him unconscious. The W.R.O. then confines Azul in their headquarters.

Answer: Nero

After sneaking past many guards, Cait Sith ends up in a chamber in which many innocent people are being dropped into a green liquid below. Nero arrives on the scene and explains to Cait Sith what is happening before absorbing him into darkness.

Rosso sneaks behind Vincent while he is distracted with another enemy and pierces his chest with her hand. She then pulls a large materia out of his body, which is confirmed to be the Protomateria later. Vincent collapses from the wound, but is saved by Yuffie at the last minute.

While serving as Lucrecia's bodyguard, Vincent falls in love with her over time. He later finds out that his father worked with her up until his death, which causes him to question her as to why she never told him. Lucrecia, already torn between Vincent and Hojo, decides her relationship with Vincent was too overwhelming and goes with Hojo.

Answer: Sephiroth

The premise to the experiments carried out by Hojo was to create a being superior to that of the normal human. Hojo decided to use his own child as the first test subject. Sephiroth would be the first of many to be subjected to these experiments. The fact that Sephiroth is Hojo's son is first revealed in "Final Fantasy VII" when Hojo tells this to the party at Midgar.

Cid arrvies on the Shera and pick up Vincent, Yuffie, Shelke, Reeve, and the remaining members of the W.R.O. Cid brings the group up to speed on an elaborate plan to launch an attack on the Tsviets and Deepground.

With the Protomateria no longer in his possession, Vincent loses slowly loses control of Chaos, which dwells within him. After checking the engine room on the Shera, Vincent unwillingly transforms into Chaos and creates claw markings along the wall of the corridor while slashing his arms around in his state of madness. Vincent soon comes to and thinks it was just a dream until he notices the marks Chaos left in his wake.

Answer: To guide the souls of the planet through the cosmos

According to Lucrecia's research, Omega's sole purpose is to carry the souls of the planet through the cosmos in search of another planet in the case that the planet experiences or foresees a global threat and leave the lifeless planet to wither and die. With this information, the party now understands that the Tsviets are killing masses of people in order to awaken Omega.

Answer: Cid

Cid, as you ight have guessed, leads the aerial assault on Deepground, while Cloud, Tifa, and Barrett lead the ground assault. Vincent and Yuffie are dropped fro the sky to commence the attack. Vincent's objective is to defeat the Tsviets...single-handedly of course.

Answer: Rosso, Azul, Nero

Vincent defeats the Tsviets one by one during the assault on Deepground. He first encounters Rosso and defeats her. However, Rosso, not allowing Vincent the pleasure of killing her, killed herself instead. Vincent then defeated Azul in human for and then in his other monstrous form earlier seen at W.R.O.

Headquarters. Vincent then encounters Nero at the Train Graveyard and defeats him for the first time there. Vincent had never seen Weiss prior to the attack on Deepground. Shelke switched sides after the Tsviets betrayed her.

Answer: Brothers

Nero explains that Weiss is his brother when he encounters Vincent at the Train Graveyard. Nero is apparently blind to Weiss' true intentions and only cares about reviving his beloved brother. He protects Weiss from Vincent, only to be killed by Weiss once he is ressurected at last. After stabbing Nero, Weiss tells him he has lived out his usefulness.

Answer: Hojo

While he was still alive, Hojo tricked Nero into believing that Weiss was dead, but could be reborn. In actuality, Hojo discovered that he could transmit his neural data over the world network and manifest his subconscious into a worthy being: Weiss. Hojo elaborates on a plot to finally take control of Omega as well now that he has taken physical form in Weiss' body. Vincent now discovers Hojo was the mastermind behind Deepground from the very beginning.

Answer: Lucrecia encourages him not to let Chaos take control

Vincent tries to fight Hojo, but is totally overwhelmed while Hojo is powered by Omega's power. Chaos tries to take over, but Vincent knows that as it would make him more powerful, he would lose all control. Suddenly, Shelke transmits Lucrecia's neural data, which tells him not to grant Chaos control over his body. Vincent manages to conquer Chaos and defeat Hojo in battle.

Answer: Omega

Nero's subconscious awakens Weiss' soul and they fade together, causing Hojo to lose control over Weiss' body and wither away. However, because of Hojo's actions, Omega has already awoken and begins its descent. Vincent then battles Omega, defeating Weiss' body which Omega had used as its host.

In its last moments, Omega continues to soar up into the sky. Vincent rushes up and meets Omega, creating a great burst of energy, apparently eliminating both Vincent and Omega. A couple of weeks later, Shelke finds Vincent with Lucrecia as the game comes to an end.
