Each character gets only one vehicle, but there are a variety of vehicle types. Some drive motorcycles (Ryo, Shadow), some drive hovercrafts (Ulala, Tails), but most drive various cars (Amy in a cabriolet, B.D. Joe in a convertible taxi). All vehicles can drift and do tricks off ramps, both of which boost speeds. Bikes can do something cars can't: they can do a wheelie on the ground for a speed boost.

A monkey drives a banana car--very fitting. His vehicle stats are the same as Sonic's except that AiAi's turbo boost is lower, so the only benefit is the novelty of driving a banana-shaped car. An aye-aye is a primate found in Madagascar.

If you're behind in a race, you might get an All-Star move from an item box. It's different for each character: Amy whacks others with a Piko-hammer, Billy's car turns into a giant egg that crushes racers, etc. Tails sends a tornado ahead of himself that plows through the competition.

Answer: Banshee Boardwalk

"Curien Mansion" is a location in the game "The House of the Dead". These three tracks have a haunted, macabre theme, with zombies walking the courses. The only course set in the mansion is Deadly Route, with the other two taking place outside it. Banshee Boardwalk is a course in "Mario Kart 64".

Answer: A factory

The main setting is Dr. Eggman's Final Fortress, which contains a factory that you race through. When you race through these three tracks in the Robot Cup, you have to race as Eggman, who is fast, but somewhat hard to control.

You can turn him on or off in the Options menu. He comments on various race actions and gets snarky sometimes. If you race as a Mii, he won't comment on anything you do.

Answer: You turn a racer's view upside-down.

This is a very useful item to spring on an opponent before going through a tough stretch of track. If hit, your world is flipped upside-down for several seconds or until you fall off the track, whichever comes first (which for me is typically the latter). A shield protects you from one hit from an opponent or obstacle.

For part of the course, you drive in an underwater tube, which contains a loop-de-loop. In the sequel "Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed", the carts can transform into planes and boats, giving a different feel to water tracks. Treasure Caves is a track in the N64 game "Diddy Kong Racing".

Answer: Battle

In Time Trials, you race yourself for the best time. In Single Race, you race on any one track you choose. In this mode, you can change how many laps you make, how hard the opponents are, and whether or not items appear. Missions take place on one of the tracks, where you have such tasks as collecting items, driving through gates, winning a one-on-one race, and shooting targets.

You purchase new things with the miles you accumulate during races. Eight racers (plus any Mii you've designed) and eight courses are available from the start, with sixteen more tracks and twelve more racers to purchase. There is more than one music track for each course, though only one is available from the start.

There are thirty-two more to buy, which you can listen to on the Options menu without racing.
