Ellie lives a sheltered life in the Boston QZ, never leaving its protective walls. It is at this moment with Joel that she finally walks through the woods.

While looking through a little garden shop for supplies, Ellie notices the statues of gnomes and fairies still intact. She tells Joel that she has an artbook full of pictures of gnomes and that she has always thought gnomes were cute. Fairies, on the other hand, creep her out.

The Clicker runs into a very thick wire attached to a bomb, setting it off. It does the job taking out the Clicker, but Joel and Ellie have to maneuver or set off more traps in Lincoln's alleys.

When Joel approaches the table with the letter, written in huge letters on the wall above it are the words "Rachel". It is a sad letter written on the back of an envelope from a man named Ezra. He is telling her that he is being forced by the military to go the quarantine zone and can no longer wait for her. Ellie asks Joel if he thinks that they had found one another. Joel replies with, "How should I know?"

While preparing for battle at the school, Bill pulls Joel aside to tell him the story of his ex-partner Frank. Bill and Frank are no longer together because Frank wanted to leave the town. Bill, fearing Frank's death, left him so that he wouldn't become hurt over Frank's death. Bill strongly believes that Joel will begin to care for Ellie and will die trying to protect her. Bill warns Joel to ditch Ellie before it's too late.

Completely surrounded by infected, Bill opens the hood of the truck only to find it empty. Joel, Ellie, and Bill are fighting tooth and nail to get out of the school empty handed.

Bill doesn't trust people and prefers living alone in Lincoln. Joel confirms that the working truck made them even. So, minus the profanity, Bill finishes his appearance in the game by telling Joel to get out of his town.
