You have to clear Fort Greenwall to gain controls of the Rift for the Imperials or the Stormcloaks if you have done the council meeting in High Hrothgar. You have to clear Fort Sungard to gain control on The Reach. You never fight in Fort Greymoor since it is in Whiterun Hold.

The only time you fight there is optional and it is full of bandits and they are only there before you enter the war.

She supports and protects the Thieves' Guild secretly and tells you about the same king of thing for not spilling the beans.

Fort Greymoor is in Whiterun Hold and you never go there to do civil war business. Fort Snowshod is in Hjaalmarch and Fort Dunstad is in The Pale.

You kill the ice-wraith at Serpent Stone Island, better know as the Serpent Stone. You are also given a potion and three poisons. The potion gives you frost resistance and the poisons do simply heavy damage.

You fight in Fort Greenwall when trying to gain control of the Rift. You fight Whitrun or defend Whitrun in a battle and you kill General Tullius in Castle Dour. Northwatch Keep is a Thalmor stronghold you go to to free one of the Grey-Manes, a clan found in Whiterun.
