Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. The original manual for "Sonic the Hedgehog 3" described this stage by saying, "Things will get pretty chilly as Sonic and Tails slide their way through this arctic wasteland. Be sure to smash open blocks of ice to reveal power-ups and hidden passageways." Which stage was being described?

Answer: IceCap Zone

IceCap Zone is the only one of the four choices that was from "Sonic the Hedgehog 3". IceCap Zone was the fifth zone in the game. Like all of the other zones in the game, IceCap Zone had two acts.
2. Silver Castle Zone and Yellow Desert Zone were zones in which Sega Game Gear game?

Answer: "Sonic Blast"

All of the zone's names in this game were made up of a color and a place. Some other levels in "Sonic Blast" were Red Volcano Zone and Blue Marine Zone. Sonic and Knuckles were the only two playable characters in the game.
3. You could drown in this stage, even though there wasn't any water. Which stage in "Sonic the Hedgehog 2" am I describing?

Answer: Both of these

Chemical Plant Zone was the second stage in "Sonic the Hedgehog 2". This zone was full of a toxic substance called "Mega Mack". You could only remain in the chemicals for a short time without having to have air. In Oil Ocean Zone you would lose a life if you sank all the way under the oil. You could remain in the oil without losing a life if you continuously jumped.
4. Which of these games had the levels Flying Battery Zone and Lava Reef Zone?

Answer: "Sonic & Knuckles"

Sonic and Knuckles, as the game's name implies, were the only two playable characters in "Sonic & Knuckles". Robotnik is both Sonic and Knuckles' enemy in this game. Tails did appear in the game, while the credits were being shown, if you beat the game with Sonic.
5. What was the name of the final level in "Sonic 3D Blast"?

Answer: Panic Puppet Zone

In this Panic Puppet Zone there were many badniks, like in the other zones in "Sonic 3D Blast". This zone was different, though, because the flickies hadn't been turned into badniks yet. In this zone you had to break open capsules to free the flickies.
6. "Robotnik has escaped to the sky! Sonic's a wing-walker (and 'Tails' is his pilot!) in a perilous battle above the clouds!" appeared in the "Sonic the Hedgehog 2" manual as a introduction to what level?

Answer: Sky Chase Zone

In Sky Chase Zone you had to control the plane by using the direction buttons, like you would in other levels. You could play as either Sonic or Tails in this level, and the character you weren't controlling would pilot the Tornado. The stage that came after this zone was Wing Fortress Zone, where the Tornado was shot down, and you had to continue on alone.
7. The Toxic Caves was the name of the first zone in which Sega Genesis game?

Answer: Sonic Spinball

In this game you controlled Sonic, the only playable character, like he was a pinball. The object in each level was to get Chaos Emeralds. Lava Powerhouse and The Machine were two other levels in "Sonic Spinball".
8. Azure Lake, Balloon Park, Chrome Gadget, Desert Palace, and Endless Mine were all two-player stages that appeared on which game for the Sega Genesis?

Answer: "Sonic the Hedgehog 3"

The object of each zone was to get through it the fastest. Each of these zones were very short, and you had to go through one five times to complete it. You could either play as Sonic, Tails, or Knuckles. This was the only time in the original game that you could play as Knuckles.
9. "Sonic the Hedgehog" for the Sega Game Gear had three stages that "Sonic the Hedgehog" for the Sega Genesis did not have. What are the names of two of the stages?

Answer: Bridge Zone and Jungle Zone

They both had some of the same stages, like Green Hill Zone and Scrap Brain Zone. These stages were a little different, though. "Sonic the Hedgehog" for the Sega Genesis had the level Star Light Zone, which the Game Gear version did not have. The other different stage the Game Gear version had was Sky Base Zone, which was the last level in the game.
10. Labyrinth of the Sky and Labyrinth of the Factory were levels that appeared in "Sonic Labyrinth".

Answer: True

In "Sonic Labyrinth" Sonic could not run fast like he could in other games. Instead, he had to spin to move fast. The two other zones in this game were Labyrinth of the Sea and Labyrinth of the Castle.
11. The original manual for "Sonic Chaos" said, "Breakaway floors, laser guns and indestructible booby traps are lurking dangerously in this final zone. Conveyer belts make for slippery progress. The Laser Walker can get you with its bounce shots.", when this stage was described. What zone was being described?

Answer: Electric Egg Zone

All of the answers for this question were zones in "Sonic Chaos". Two other zones were Sleeping Egg Zone and Aqua Planet Zone. Turquoise Hill Zone was the first stage in the game.
12. What was the only zone on "Sonic 3D Blast" that had snow on it?

Answer: Diamond Dust Zone

Diamond Dust Zone was covered in ice and snow and was the fourth level in "Sonic 3D Blast". Some of the traps set for Sonic in this level were snowmen that exploded when they were approached. Sonic could also be frozen in a block of ice in this zone, which could often cause him to lose rings.
13. In this zone, "Some mysteries are solved! Robotnik makes his big play, and Knuckles finds out who the REAL bad guy is!", according to the game's manual. What "Sonic & Knuckles" level was this mentioned about?

Answer: Hidden Palace Zone

This zone was very short. Hidden Palace was one of the zones that appeared close to the end of the game. In this stage Knuckles finally finds out that Sonic isn't his enemy.
14. What is the name of the final level in "Sonic the Hedgehog 3"?

Answer: Launch Base Zone

At the end of Launch Base Zone, you had to fight Robotnik once. Then you had to jump into one of his small ships and follow him and fight him two more times. If you defeated him all three times then you would beat the game.
15. The original manual for "Sonic the Hedgehog" for the Sega Genesis described this level by saying, "Speed through the stars like a roller coaster in a world that twists like a corkscrew.". Which zone would be correctly matched with the description?

Answer: Star Light Zone

Star Light Zone was the fourth stage in "Sonic the Hedgehog" for the Sega Genesis. The other stages in the game were Green Hill Zone, Marble Zone, Spring Yard Zone, Labyrinth Zone, and Scrap Brain Zone. The last zone in the game, that was really a battle, had a self-explanatory name. It was called Final Zone.
