Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Wario

Answer: Dance Dance Revolution Mario Mix

Wario is a non-playable character that appears in "Dance Dance Revolution Mario Mix". The "Dance Dance Revolution" series was originally released by Konami in Japan in 1998 and "Dance Dance Revolution Mario Mix" was developed in 2005 for the GameCube. It is called "Dance Dance Revolution with Mario" in Japan.

You can choose to dance against either Mario or Luigi (or a human competing as the one you didn't choose to dance as), and work your way through 5 levels of difficulty, with 4 grades of skill in each level (perfect, great, easy or miss). There are around 30 songs to groove to, mostly reprised from other Mario games.

It includes numerous minigames and introduces Mush Mode; these elevate the experience by requiring the dancer to avoid items, step on others and generally be alert to changes on the screen (like that castle over there to your right - quick, step on it!). Additional points are gained by completing these challenges. One level includes a visit to Wario's Carnival, in which Wario rides a roller coaster carrying a much-coveted Music Key; all that's required to obtain it is a dance-off with Mario!

This question was waltzed into the quiz by an exhausted VegemiteKid, now the fittest member of Phoenix Rising. Okay, that might not be true.
2. Pete

Answer: Disney Sports Skateboarding

Pete has been named many things in the Mickey Mouse universe. Initially he was an anthropomorphic bear who didn't have a name. Somewhere along the line he became a cat and had the names Peg-leg Pete, Bad Pete and even Black Pete. He has been mainly used as a nemesis for Mickey and his friends and, on some occasions as Sylvester Shyster's not so bright partner in crime.

In "Disney Sports: Skateboarding" (2002) he joins five other Disney playable characters as they grind and ollie their way through eight different levels. Being a bit heavyset Pete's manoeuvrability is not the best and he's a little slow to take off, but his advantages are that he is a powerful beast and his top speed is among the best in this lot.

This question was flipped into this quiz by Phoenix Rising's pollucci19 who still can't get over the fact Disney had the temerity to change Pete from a bear to a cat.
3. The Great Deku Tree

Answer: The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker

The Great Deku Tree in "The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker" is the guardian of Forest Haven but he first appears in "The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time" and is the "Father of the Forest" guarding over the Kokiri, a race of forest spirits.

"The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker" was a 2002 installment in "The Legend of Zelda Series" published by Nintendo for the GameCube. It features basic 3D gameplay but avoids the realistic graphics of previous games in the series. It is an open world action-adventure game with role-playing elements.

Although it did not sell as well as previous installments of the series, it has come to be considered one of the greatest video games ever made. It is one of ten video games from 2002 to be so honored.

This question was entered into the quiz by Phoenix Rising member tazman6619 who is a legend in his own mind.
4. Pirate Lakitu

Answer: Dance Dance Revolution Mario Mix

Pirate Lakitu is a flying Koopa who sports a striped green shell, wears a ridiculous pair of aviator goggles and rides around on a smiling, fluffy white cloud. The Lakitus are a bit of a pest most of the time and have a habit of dropping spiny eggs on players, though they have also been friendlies in some games.

In "Dance Dance Revolution: Mario Mix" (2005) there are a number of Lakitus that make an appearance and, in two of those worlds, they have important roles to play. Our Pirate Lakitu makes an appearance in World 2 and is the owner of a motor called the Boogie Booster, which is vital to you if you are planning to cross a giant whirlpool. The Pirate will tell you that it is not for sale and the only way for you to get it off him is beat him in a fishing competition.

This question was written by Phoenix Rising's pollucci19 who wishes that he too owned a ridiculous pair of aviator goggles.
5. Waluigi

Answer: Dance Dance Revolution Mario Mix

In "Dance Dance Revolution Mario Mix", Waluigi is the villain who is responsible for scattering three of the four Music Keys across the Mushroom Kingdom at the start of the game's initial story mode. Waluigi manages to hold onto the fourth. It is the job of the player (playing as either Mario or Luigi) to retrieve the four keys and return them to the safety of their home in Truffle Towers. The means of doing this is by winning dance competitions against a range of different characters - the first of which is Waluigi.

Waluigi is the arch-rival of Luigi, and holds a similar role as Mario's nemesis Wario. He first appeared as Wario's doubles partner in the 2000 game "Mario Tennis" that was originally developed for the Nintendo 64 system.

This question danced into the quiz, led by Phoenix Rising's Fifiona81.
6. Goofy

Answer: Disney Sports Skateboarding

Goofy is a tall, anthropomorphic dog in the Walt Disney universe and he is a close friend of both Mickey Mouse and Donald Duck. He is joined in this game by his son Max. One wonders why you would put the Goof on a skateboard because, in the cartoons and comics, the dude is awkward as. Having said that he handles it quite well and along with the regular "guffaws" there's a sprinkling of "Oh boy, how did I do that".

The question for me was "Is Goofy a goofy foot or regular"? The game does not provide any answers as he leads with both the right and left feet. It's very much like the 1937 Disney film "Hawaiian Holiday" where the Goof goes surfing. He leads with both feet and is not that good in his endeavours.

Phoenix Rising's pollucci19 managed to grind out this question without looking like a goofus.
7. Captain Tetra

Answer: The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker

Pirate captain Tetra is an incarnation of Princess Zelda in "The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker". Captain Tetra plays a major role in the storyline but is unaware of her royal bloodline until the end of the game. She is an orphan who inherits her position from her mother who died when she was young. Because the game is set on a group of islands in a vast sea, the captain plays a critical role.

"The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker" was a 2002 installment in "The Legend of Zelda Series" published by Nintendo for the GameCube.

This question was entered into the quiz by Phoenix Rising member tazman6619 who is still a legend in his own mind.
8. Max

Answer: Disney Sports Skateboarding

Maximilian (better known as Max) Goof is the son of the dog Goofy. He first appeared for Disney in the 1951 short "Fathers Are People" and then became better known to younger audiences in the animated TV series "Goof Troop", which first aired in 1992. In "Disney Sports: Skateboarding" he joins a number of other Disney characters as they skate, flip and grind their way through eight different levels and five different game moves.

Unlike his father, Goofy, he is an extreme sports fanatic and takes to skateboarding like Donald Duck to trouble. He hasn't inherited his father's awkwardness nor his clumsiness but he still ends up saying "Oof!" quite a lot in this game.

Phoenix Rising's VegemiteKid smashed the skatepark record, will a little help from a dancing bear, to bring this question to the quiz.
9. Ganon

Answer: The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker

Ganon is the main antagonist in Nintendo's "The Legend of Zelda" video game series. The character was inspired by "Zhu Bajie" (Pigsy) from the Chinese novel "Journey to the West". Ganon appears as a boar-like demon in some instalments of the series and as a humanoid in other instalments. He is called Ganondorf in his humanoid form.

In "The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker" Ganondorf is the final boss that the hero, Link, must defeat. According to the storyline, Link's sister, Aryll, was captured by mistake and held at Ganondorf's fortress. Link goes on a quest to rescue Aryll and along the way, must collect items of power to defeat Ganondorf. Link is aided by a reluctant Tetra, who turns out to be the heir of the royal family. In a plot twist, Tetra is kidnapped by Ganondorf and Link has to battle Ganondorf to free Tetra.

Phoenix Rising team member purelyqing snorted at this question.
10. Big Blooper

Answer: Dance Dance Revolution Mario Mix

Big Blooper is one of the characters the player must defeat in "Dance Dance Revolution Mario Mix". He appears in World 2-4. Blooper Bop, mini-Bloopers and Big Blooper's tentacle must be defeated by Mario/Luigi to gain the music key.

Big Blooper also appears in other incarnations of the "Mario" franchise where he is also known as Giant Blooper or Mega Blooper. He appears in "Super Mario Bros.: Peach-hime Kyushutsu Dai Sakusen!", the "Paper Mario" series, "Mario Party" series, and "Super Smash Bros." series.

This information was divulged at great personal risk by Phoenix Rising member tazman6619.
