Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. What is the name of the spacecraft/starbase from which you'll conduct most of your operations?

Answer: Laputa

The Laputa is an alien spacecraft which will ferry you over the globe. From this spacecraft you will launch a landing pod to the ground, loaded with your troops, in order to carry out special operations. The Laputa can only launch the pod to a specific radius around it, so you must constantly move the Laputa over the world map to reach hotspots of activity.
2. True to the series, Little Grey (and very violent) Men appear in this game as well. What is their name in "UFO: Aftershock"?

Answer: Reticulans

Much like in other "X-Com"/"UFO" games, the Little Grey Men are the "base" enemy units. They'll be the most common enemies during the beginning of the game, but you'll see less of them as stronger enemies appear. Unlike the "X-Com" series, however, or the previous "UFO: Aftermath", where little grey men became increasingly powerful as the game progressed (with psionic abilities and destructive weapons), the Reticulans in this game don't offer much challenge by the time your troopers have reached approximately level 10.

However, they do remain a very important piece of the evolving storyline.
3. Although the Biomass has been diminishing for quite a while, mutants still plague the Earth. They come in groups made up of several kinds of mutants roaming together. Which of these mutants is hardest to detect?

Answer: Flatsters

Flatsters are very dangerous in the beginning, and annoying for a while longer. These flat, ray-like creatures are very hard to spot because they are considered to be constantly "crawling". You'll often spot them only when they are almost at spitting range from your soldiers. If you're not quick to react, they can hit your troopers with a spit-weapon that causes a lasting, burning wound. To make things worse, these critters are resistant to projectile weapons (firearms), so you should always arm at least one of your soldiers with a powerful, short-range energy weapon, when you're off to a mission involving mutants.
4. When you are sent on a mission to capture a member of an enemy group, you MUST bring them back to the landing pod in order for the mission to succeed.

Answer: False

The mission will also succeed if you manage to kill all other enemies on the map. You do have to capture the target individual anyway.
5. What knowledge level must a base have before you can construct a Hyper-Energy Weapons Lab there?

Answer: 6

Knowledge is increased by building libraries, schools and colleges at a base. To reach levels higher than 2, you must have a combination of at least two knowledge structures (Library+School, or higher). Since bases are limited to between three and five buildings each, and knowledge is specific per base, it's best to construct these high-knowledge labs at a base where five slots are available.

In small bases, a school and college would take up two slots, leaving only one free for a lab...
6. In a small base (3 building slots), it is possible to have two colleges and an empty slot.

Answer: True

Build a library, then two colleges, and then demolish the library. The colleges can support each other, leaving one slot open for whatever you wish to build there. However, you can't demolish the colleges unless you rebuild a library or school in the empty slot, first. This is of course possible in any size base.
7. How many bases can you have on the African continent?

Answer: 5

There are only five "Countries" in the African continent: Egypt, Algeria, Ethiopea, Guinea, and South Africa. Most of Africa consists of uncontrollable terrain, especially the Sahara Desert and the jungles of Congo. You can still build tracks through these territories if you want.
8. Which of the following is not a possible "viewing" mode in tactical combat?

Answer: Ultra

Enemy vision is a special skill used by Scouts, which enables you to see the areas visible to enemies. Night vision and Infra-Vision (thermal) are both derived from headgear that enhances your troops' detection abilities (and make a really cool effect on-screen). Ultra does not exist. There is also a Psi mode which shows psionic enemies.
9. The Hover Chasis can only be installed on which kind of battle drone?

Answer: Scout

Hover Chasis are fast, but they are expensive (and time consuming) to manufacture. Drones with this chasis can hover over any kind of terrain, but can't climb stairs or ladders.
Floater drones, by the way, do not exist in the game.
10. The Wargot warhead launcher can be used by your soldiers.

Answer: True

Yup, with enough research you can use pretty much anything your enemies carry into battle (if you can pry it from their cold, dead hands, that is).
