Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Which race has to sacrifice a worker unit in order to build some of its buildings?

Answer: Night Elves

Whenever Night Elves create an Ancient (a type of building) they lose a wisp. That wisp becomes the building, which can create and upgrade units. Another advantage of ancients is that they have a melee attack that they can use against enemies. They can also be uprooted and walk around if you want to move your base. While uprooted, they can still attack enemies, but they can also eat trees to replenish their health.

Other buildings such as Moon Wells and Huntresses' Halls do not use up a wisp, and cannot be moved.
2. Which race can have more than one worker building a structure at one time?

Answer: Humans

Humans can assign multiple villagers to work on one building, greatly increasing its build speed. This is good in early game situations when you want to quickly build an alter or barracks, or in an emergency when you need to create unit-producing buildings quickly.

The downside to this is that for every extra worker you assign to a building after the first, it uses up gold from your gold reserves.
3. Which race is allied with the Tauren?

Answer: Orcs

Tauren are the heavy melee units of the Orcs (similar to the Undead's Abominations). They cannot be created until you have completely upgraded your Great Hall to a Fortress and built a Tauren Totem. An army can quickly spell destruction for players who are not prepared. They are very vulnerable to air units, though, so your allies, if you have any, should build units that compliment your Tauren, such as castors, air units, or something that can bring down air units, like Crypt Fiends.

In the expansion, "The Frozen Throne", another Tauren unit was added to the Orcs arsenal, the Spirit Walker. Its default form is ethereal form, meaning they cannot be hit by physical attacks (only magic attacks). Their most impressive spell is probably ancestral spirit, which allows them to resurrect a fallen Tauren. An army of Tauren with a compliment of Spirit Walkers could essentially never die.
4. Which race can summon a Blademaster?

Answer: Orcs

One of the most popular heroes amongst Orc players, a Blademaster has some pretty impressive abilities. He can Wind Walk, turning him invisible, making him run faster, and gives a damage bonus on his next attack. This makes him perfect for early game hit-and-run tactics to disable other players' early game resource gathering abilities. He can also make false copies of himself with Mirror Image. The copies do not do damage, and take extra damage, but the multiple Blademasters can be confusing and stressful to other players. His passive ability is Critical Strike, giving him a fifteen percent chance to do extra damage with every normal attack. Finally, his Ultimate is Bladestorm, where the Blademaster spins around rapidly for a short period of time, causing damage to all nearby units. This can be used to quickly destroy weak defensive buildings, or better yet, hordes of worker units all lined up (such as when they're harvesting lumber or gold).

All in all, a very effective hero, whether he's alone or with a group.
5. Which race does not destroy trees when harvesting lumber?

Answer: Night Elves

Wisps are the Night Elves worker units. When charged with harvesting lumber, they circle their target tree and passively generate lumber. They do so at about the same rate that other races do, but only in increments of 5, instead of 10. While Night Elf lumber may be slow in the beginning, they never have to expand their lumber operations once a forest has been clear cut. With only a few wisps, a player can generate substantially larger stores of lumber than players of different races by the end of the game.
6. Which race can only build structures on its own special ground?

Answer: Undead

Similar to the concept used in "Starcraft" for the Zerg, Undead can only summon their buildings on blight, a darkened and diseased ground that surrounds Undead structures. When you complete a new structure, the ground in a certain radius from it will become blight, allowing you to expand your base.
7. Which two races send runners out to goldmines in order to collect gold?

Answer: Humans and Orcs

Humans and Orcs send runners to their goldmines in order to retrieve gold, unlike the Night Elves and Undead who first convert a goldmine and then have workers passively take gold from it. The Undead and Night Elves can only have five workers harvesting gold from one mine at a time. Humans and Orcs can have multiple runners at any given time, but if the main building is built as close to the goldmine as possible, then anything above five runners will not increase the rate.
8. Which race does not need worker units present when building structures?

Answer: Undead

The Undead summon buildings. An Acolyte needs only to move himself to the building's location to begin construction. He is then free to go about other business (start more buildings, or collect gold).
9. Which race can create Sorceresses?

Answer: Humans

Each race has two magic users, usually a defensive spell caster and an offensive spell caster.

The Humans have the Priest, who specializes in healing and defense, while the Sorceress can slow enemies, turn them into sheep, or render friendly units invisible.

Orcs have Shamans that can augment any unit using blood lust, and can turn an enemy into a liability to their team with lightning shield. Their Witch Doctors can summon sentry, stasis, and healing wards.

Undead have Necromancers whose main ability is to summon two skeletal warriors from corpses, but they can also cast unholy frenzy, and cripple. Banshees are the defensive unit, and can cast anti-magic shell and curse, but their real power comes from their ability possess, which lets the banshee enter an enemy unit and take permanent control of it.

Night Elves have the Druid of the Talon which can cast cyclone and faerie fire. Druids of the Bear have roar and rejuvenation. The Night Elf casters each have two forms that they can change between for a small mana cost.

Each race gained a third magic user in the expansion "The Frozen Throne".
10. Which race has a hero for each attribute (Strength, Agility, Intelligence)?

Answer: Orcs

The Orcs are the only race to have a hero for each attribute. They are: Tauren Chieftan (Strength), Blademaster (Agility), Farseer (Intelligence). Their fourth hero is the Shadow Hunter, and Intelligence hero.

Even with the fourth hero added in the expansion pack, "The Frozen Throne", the other races do not have this ability.

The Humans have only Strength (the Mountain King and Paladin) and Intelligence (the Archmage and Blood Mage).

The Night Elves have Agility (the Priestess of the Moon, the Demon Hunter, and the Warden) and Intelligence (Keeper of the Grove).

The Undead have only Strength (the Death Knight, the Dread Lord, and the Crypt Lord) and Intelligence (Lich).
