Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. What is the standard ranged unit for the Human Alliance?

Answer: Dwarven Rifleman

In 'WarCraft I' you had the Human Archers. In "WarCraft II" the standard ranged unit for the Alliance was the Elven Archer hailing from mysterious Quel'thalas. In "WarCraft III" they are replaced by the Dwarven Riflemen of Khaz Modan, wielding their legendary Single-shot Blunderbuss Longrifles.

They have a fair deal of hitpoints (520) and their rifles do piercing damage, enabling them to hit both ground and air targets from a distance. They can receive a range-upgrade to even further enhance their range. You always should take a few of these with you to fetch of airattacks. Elven Rangers were enhanced Elven Archers in "WarCraft II" and Crossbow Archers don't exist in WarCraft.

The Elven Archers have not completely phased out. In the Undead Campaign the player will engage the High Elves of Quel'thalas several times.

The Elves have their own units not available to Alliance Troops, including the High-Elf Swordman, Dragonhawk Rider (who will become available in the upcoming expansion "The Frozen Throne") and the Archer.

The High Elf Archer is identical to the Night Elf Archer with the difference that it lacks the 'Hide' ability and extra available upgrades like the damage, range and sight upgrade for Night Elves.
2. Each race in "WarCraft III" posseses 3 heros with unique abilities. The Human Alliance is not entirely made up of Humans (mostly of Lordaeron) but also includes the Dwarves of Khaz Modan and the Elves of Quel'thalas (High Elves). Which of those races does not have a hero (note, this applies to the original "WarCraft III - Reign of Chaos", not the expansion)?

Answer: Elves

In "WarCraft III - Reign of Chaos" the Humans posses 3 heroes; the Paladin (Human), a defensive fighter/spellcaster, the Archmage (Human), a spellcaster and the Mountain King (Dwarf), a fighter. The Elves are not very prominent in the Alliance in "WarCraft III" providing some spellcasting units only (the Priest and the Sorceress).

They provide no hero to the Alliance. The role of the Elves is expanded in the expansion though, adding the Dragonhawk Rider and Spell Breaker units but most importantly a hero, the Bloodmage.

The Elven hero Sylvanas Windrunner is not available to human players in the Campaign or in Multiplayer but appears in the Undead Campaign only opposing the player and being part of the Elven Ranger Corps of Quel'Thalas. Sylvanas returns in "Frozen Throne" as a 'Dark Ranger', commanding Undead to seek revenge upon Arthas.
3. Which city must be purged according to Arthas because it has been infected with the Plague?

Answer: Stratholme

Kel'Thuzad informs Arthas that he only serves his master, the Dreadlord Mal'Ganis. He tells Arthas that Mal'Ganis is in Stratholm and Arthas sets out after killing Kel'Thuzad in Andorhal, the regional distribution center for grain in northern Lordaeron. Arriving in Stratholm he finds out that the Plague already spread to that place and orders the Knight of the Silverhand to purge the city. Uther Lightbringer refuses and Arthas disbands him and the Paladins. Uther subsequently leaves with most forces and also Jaina Proudmoore abandons Arthas. Arthas continues on his own, purging the city to prevent the citizens from being transformed into zombies under Mal'Ganis' control. Stromgarde was the capital of the Nation of Stromgarde in "WarCraft II". Strahnbrad is a small village where the story starts as Arthas and his warriors must move in to save it from an imminent attack of Blackrock Orcs. Andorhal was the regional distribution center of grain for all northern villages.

The Plague originated there.

After they had been disbanded some of the Paladins would eventually travel to Northrend as well to find the origin of the Plagues after having been persecruted by the local populace in Lordaeron whom thought they had been infected. There they were corrupted by Ner'zhul, the Lich King, who offered them immortality and great power. Thus more Death Knights came into existence to server as Generals for the Scourge.
4. What is the name of the icy northlands to where Arthas hunts down Mal'Ganis?

Answer: Northrend

The icy northlands are called Northrend. Here the Lich King Ner'zhul resides and rules the Undead Scourge. Mal'Ganis returns to Northrend, luring Prince Arthas to Frostmourne, the runeblade crafted by the Lich King to steal souls. Gilneas and Kul Tiras are human Nations (mentioned in WarCraft II and III) and Kalimdor are the lands to the East where both the Humans and Orcs flee to and the homeland of the Night Elves and Taurens.
5. There is an unit in the Human Alliance with Chaos Damage (in the original Single Player campaign).

Answer: True

This is true, it's Arthas with Frostmourne. Arthas starts with a warhammer, like all Paladins and does Normal Damage. But when you recover Frostmourne in the final mission the damage type changes to Chaos Damage and the value increases (moreover Chaos Damage does full damage to ALL armour types, including Divine Armour. Normal damage does increased damage to Light Armour, full damage to Medium and Heavy Armour, decreased damage to Fortified and Hero Armour and no damage to Divine Armour).
6. Who commands the Cult of the Damned?

Answer: Kel'Thuzad

The Cult of the Damned is part of the Scourge and commanded by Kel'Thuzad. He serves Mal'Ganis who in turn commands the Scourge. The Cult of the Damned was responsible for distributing the plagued grain. Tichondrius commands the Scourge after Mal'Ganis' death. Tichondrius will eventually be killed by the Night-Elf Demon Hunter Illidan Stormrage.

After that the Scourge is under full control of the Lich King Ner'zhul who had been manipulating Mal'Ganis and Tichondrius and the other Dreadlords without the knowledge of the Burning Legion.
7. What is the name of the Black Drake hunted by Dwarves, who encounter Arthas as he is on his way to lay waste to a camp of Blackrock Clan Orcs (Mission 2).

Answer: Searinox

'The name of the beast we're hunting is Searinox' as told by the Dwarven Commander, Feranor Steeltoe. It is said that the heart of a Black Drake can enchant weapons with fire. When you kill Searinox and bring the heart back to the Dwarves you'll receive the 'Orb of Fire', a hero item that adds 12 to the attack value and adds splash damage to the hero's attack.

It's a very useful item which I used throughout most of the human campaign. Deathwing is the great Dragon encountered in "WarCraft II - Beyond the Dark Portal" (his name is mentioned once in the Night Elf Campaign.

While searching the Barrow Deeps for the Druids of the Claw, Furion encounters some Drakes and calls them 'Foul brood of Deathwing') and Alextrasza was the Dragon Queen who had been enslaved by the Dragonmaw Clan.

They used her to breed dragons to fight for the Horde in the Second War. She was liberated when the Alliance defeated the Horde. What became of her is unknown. Smaug is the dragon from the novel "The Hobbit" by J.R.R. Tolkien.
8. What is the name of the Dwarven Commander who hunts the Black Drake?

Answer: Feranor Steeltoe

His name is Feranor Steeltoe which can be seen by clicking on him. He's regarded as an passive allied unit and is invulnerable. The unit is actually a Mortar Team. Muradin Bronzebeard is the Dwarven Mountain King encountered by Arthas in Northrend where they were looking for Frostmourne.

When Muradin finds out that the blade is cursed he urges Arthas to leave it and go. But Arthas takes it and Muradin gets killed. Brand is one of Muradin's brothers (continue to click on him and you get the 'annoyed' sentences Blizzard games are famous for. One of them is 'My younger brother Brand is a renowned explorer'.

His older brother Magni is the King of the Dwarves and also part of "Worlds of WarCraft"). Kurdran is the Gryphon Rider hero from "WarCraft II - Beyond the Dark Portal".
9. Jaina is a longtime friend of Arthas and a liaison to the Kirin Tor, the mages from Dalaran. Her father was quite famous in the Alliance, who was he?

Answer: Admiral Daelin Proudmoore

Jaina Proudmoore is the daughter of Admiral Daelin Proudmoore, lord of Kul Tiras and commander of the Alliance Navy. Jaina is a special hero. She has the same skills and values of an Archmage but a unique appeareance and she's one of my favourites. She is sent by the Kirin Tor of Dalaran to invest the plague and she travels with Arthas.

She leaves Arthas when he plans to purge the city of Stratholme. She is later visited by the Prophet who urges her to leave to Kalimdor. She becomes the leader of the survivors of Lordaeron and flees her homeland to the East. Anduin Lothar was the great Alliance leader who had led the survivors of Azeroth to Lordaeron after it's destruction in the First War.

He became the overal Commander of Alliance forces in the Second War and eventually returned to Azeroth but fell in the Siege of Blackrock Spire. Uther Lightbringer was the first Paladin and leader of the Knights of the Silverhand.

He commanded the Paladins in the Second War and offered comfort to the townspeople whenever he could.

He trained Arthas, son of King Terenas of Lordaeron as a Paladin and was slain by him when Arthas had been corrupted and served Lothar and Uther are not known of having offspring and King Terenas' only child is Arthas. Jaina's father, Daelin, takes a prominent role in Orc Bonus Campaign of "Frozen Throne" were he attacks Thrall's new nation of Durator, Knowing only hatred for the Orcs and not aware of the Alliance between Thrall and Jaina. In the final battle, Thrall's forces defeat Proudmoore's forces with the help of Rexxar, a Beastmaster. Proudmoore won't surrender and is killed.
10. Human units can regenerate their health.

Answer: True

Yes, that is one of the major changes from previous installments. All races can heal slowly. Humans and Orcs regenerate constantly, Undead can regenerate faster on the Blight and Night Elves only regenerate during the Night (same goes for their Moon Wells, they replenish only during the night).

In the previous games only Humans had the ability to replenish health (by Priests in "WarCraft" and Paladins in "WarCraft II"), now all races' units regenerate hitpoints. The Humans still have the best spellcasters who can restore health to other units (Priest and Paladin) and in some levels you will find a Fountain of Health.

A unit near it will regenerate quickly. Hero's of all races also regenerate constantly and at a faster rate which is improved as the hero gains more experience. I hoped you liked my quiz.
