Answer: Abigail Smith

Abigail Smith was born in Weymouth, Massachusetts, on November 11, 1744. She married John Adams, her third cousin, the future 2nd US president, on October 25, 1764. The couple had six children, the second one being John Quincy Adams who was to become the sixth US President.

She was the first First Lady to live in the White House, and died of typhoid fever on October 28, 1818, two weeks before her 74th birthday.

Answer: Louisa Catherine Johnson

Louisa Catherine Johnson, who was to become the wife of John Quincy Adams and the sixth US First Lady, was the only president's wife born outside of the US territory. Her mother was British and her father was in England as a consul for the United States.

It was there, in England, that she met her future husband, John Quincy Adams, who had been sent on a diplomatic mission. The couple married in 1797. She was the First Lady between 1825 and 1829. She died in 1852.

Hannah Hoes was born March 8, 1783 and was of Dutch ancestry, just like Martin Van Buren. They were first cousins once removed and childhood sweethearts. The couple had four children, and Hannah died February 5, 1819 at age 35, from tuberculosis.

Abigail Powers Fillmore was born in Stillwater, New York, on March 13, 1798. She was a school teacher who had Millard Fillmore as a pupil. After many years of courtship, they were married on February 5, 1826, when she was 27, and he was 26. They had a son and a daughter.

She was became the First Lady due to the death of Zachary Taylor, and remained so from 1850 to 1853. She died from pneumonia on March 30, 1853. Five years later, Millard Fillmore married Mrs. Caroline Carmichael McIntosh, and remained married with her until his death in 1874.

James Buchanan never married. Rachel Donelson Robards was the wife of Andrew Jackson, and Letitia Christian and Julia Gardiner were the first and second wives of US President John Tyler.

Answer: Julia Dent

When Julia Dent married Ulysses Grant, she was 22 and he was 26. They had been engaged for four years. They remained loyal to each other all through their lives and had three sons and a daughter. At the end of Grant's presidency, they took a trip around the world, and were the guests of Queen Victoria at Windsor Castle.

At the Imperial Palace in Tokyo, they were received by the Emperor and Empress of Japan. She survived her husband and died at 77 years of age.

Helen Louise Herron was from Cincinnati, Ohio, where she met her future husband, William Howard Taft when he was 22 and she was 18. They married in 1886. They had two sons and a daughter. She was 81 when she died in 1943.
Caroline Lavinia Scott and Mary Scott Lord Dimmick were the first and second wives of Benjamin Harrison, and Frances Folsom was married to Grover Cleveland.
8. Whose wife was Lucretia Rudolph?

Answer: James A. Garfield

Lucretia Rudolph and James A. Garfield married on November 11, 1858, when they were both 26 years old. Five of their children attained maturity, four sons and one daughter. On July 2, 1881, her husband was shot by Charles J. Guiteau, and died as a result of his wounds on September 19, 1881. Lucretia Rudolph Garfield never remarried and died in South Pasadena (California) on March 14, 1918, at the age of 85.

Ida Saxton was born in Canton, Ohio, and married William McKinley on January 25, 1871. She had two daughters who died in infancy. She suffered from epilepsy. After McKinley's assassination in Buffalo, New York, in September 1901, she retired to her home in Canton, Ohio where she died six years later.
10. Who did Jacqueline Lee Bouvier marry in 1953?

Jacqueline Lee Bouvier's wedding to John F. Kennedy and their honeymoon in Acapulco, Mexico, made the headlines in 1953. After a miscarriage and giving birth to a stillborn daughter, Jackie Kennedy gave birth to a daughter, Caroline, in 1957, and a son, John, in 1960.

The couple became President and First Lady of the United States in 1961. On November 21, 1963, President Kennedy was assassinated in Dallas, Jackie married Aristotle Onassis on October 20, 1968 and became a widow for the second time in 1975.

She died from cancer on Thursday, May 19, just before reaching her 65th birthday.
