There is no proof Tshombe (1919-1969) was assasinated but he died in what were at least suspect circumstances. In 1967 his plane was hijacked.He was first jailed and then kept uncommunicado until his death in 1969.- Patrice Lumumba (1925-1961),founder of MNC National Congolese Movement. First Prime Minister of the Republic of Congo.

After a conflict between him and President Kasavubu , he was put under house arrest by Colonel Mobutu. Escaped, was recaptured , flown to Katanga where in February 1961 it was announced that he had been killed. - Mobutu ,born in 1930, studied in Brussels.Led army coup in 1960 against Lumumba. Died of cancer shortly after Kabila had taken over power.-Laurent Desire Kabila , born 1939 , installed himself as Head of State of Congo-Kinshasa.

He rejected the old name Zaire and called it 'Democratic Republic of the Congo'.Assassinated in January 2001.

Muzorewa won a clear majority of the seats allotted to blacks in the April 1997 election. He was unable to end warfare. In February 1980 there were new elections. Nkomo (ZAPU) won 20 seats. Muzorewa (UANC) won 3 seats. Winner was Robert Mugabe (ZANU ):57 seats.
