Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Bob has been imprisoned on "The Rock" for 100 long years and has been eagerly planning a daring escape. What is the nearest city to Bob's prison home?

Answer: San Francisco

Armed with nothing more than an ice-cream scoop and a pair of broken chopsticks, Bob managed to dig a tunnel out into the prison gardens. Fortunately, Galapagos tortoises can live for over 160 years so he is still only middle-aged. The previous residents of the penitentiary were released back in 1963.

The island had served as a Federal prison for 30 years from 1933-1963. Before that the island had been a military fort and housed the oldest operating lighthouse on the West Coast. Bob has been surviving off blackberries, sweetpeas, rose petals, and pages of decomposing National Geographic magazine.
2. Braving the shark-infested waters, Bob makes a swim for it paddling as fast as he can toward which famous iconic bridge?

Answer: Golden Gate Bridge

Bob learned so much about the Golden Gate Bridge during his 100-year incarceration. The bridge is 2,737 meters long (over 1.5 miles), 27 meters wide and over 220 meters high. The bridge is a dark orange in color and gets its name from the gold prospectors who came to the area during the 1800s.

They saw the San Francisco Bay as the golden gateway to riches. The bridge opened on May 27th in 1937 and is one of the most recognized bridges in the United States and the world.
3. Exhausted from his long swim, Bob hitched a ride on a large container ship bound for the high seas. Finding a comfy place to take a nap, Bob settled in for a well earned sleep. Sixteen days later, Bob awoke to strange voices speaking Cantonese. Looking out across the horizon, Bob was stunned to see he had arrived in what famous Asian city?

Answer: Hong Kong

Bob had read all about Hong Kong in National Geographic. He recognized the towering skyline of Victoria Harbor. Hong Kong is translated as "fragrant harbor" in the Cantonese language. A Special Administrative Region of China, Hong Kong is one of the premiere world financial capitals. With a population of over 7 million people, Hong Kong is one of the most densely populated cities in all of Asia.
4. Bob loved waddling the colorful streets of Hong Kong but got a little freaked out when a chef in Wan Chai started eyeing him up as an ingredient for his world famous turtle soup. A narrow escape onto a junk boat saw Bob traveling on to which country that boasts the highest population density on the Asian continent and a majestic stone lion that gazes out across the ocean?

Answer: Singapore

Bob was so excited to see Singapore. The giant lion statute on Sentosa was especially impressive. Bob remembered reading in National Geographic that the Republic of Singapore was a city-state on the southern-most tip of the Malay peninsula just one hundred miles north of the equator.

As of 2012, Singapore had a population of 5.3 million people and was the second most-densely populated country in the world with 7,681 people for every square km.
5. Bob thoroughly enjoyed his trip to Singapore but really had his heart set on visiting which of the following countries, associated with the Hindu religion?

Answer: India

Bob's studies in Hindu mythology taught him that the world actually rests on the back of four elephants who are supported atop a turtle shell. The name of this mythological tortoise is Akupara. Additionally, one of the avatars of Vishnu is the giant turtle Kurma. Bob was especially impressed with the Taj Mahal in Agra.

This beautiful building was commissioned by Mughal emperor Shah Jahan as a memorial and burial chamber for his favorite wife.

Answer: Tanzania

What an adventure Bob was having. Knowledge harbored from days on Alcatraz reading ancient National Geographic magazines was really paying off on this exciting trip. He had long been fascinated by Mount Kilimanjaro. A majestic mountain rising high above the Serengeti plain. Uhuru peak is found at 19,341 feet above sea level. Bob had to persuade a kindly tour guide to give him a ride in a hot air balloon. What a sight the dormant volcanic crater was from the air.

Unfortunately, the once massive glacier on top of the peak is almost gone but Bob still found the view breathtaking.

The capital of England and the United Kingdom, London is home to Buckingham Palace, Trafalgar Square, the Tower of London, Hyde Park, Westminster Abbey, and the Houses of Parliament. Bob learned that Big Ben is actually not the name of the Houses of Parliament.

In actuality, Big Ben is the great bell found in the clock tower of the Palace of Westminster.
9. Bob stayed for a while and visited his cousins at the famous nearby Zoo. Unfortunately, it snowed and Bob realized he didn't fancy the cold weather. Answer: Monaco

Bob thought Hong Kong and Singapore were busy places but he was shocked to find over 30,000 people living on two square kilometers in the Principality of Monaco. The country is surrounded on three sides by France and is the second smallest country in the world. Bob was the guest of honor at a state dinner hosted by his Royal Highness Prince Albert II.

The Grimaldi family have ruled in Monaco since 1297 and the Principality has become a major banking power in Southern Europe.
10. The mediterranean was just too busy and too ritzy for Bob. What he really was looking for was a cute town where there might be lots of pizza (turtles and tortoises love pizza), seasonal moderate temperatures, beautiful female companionship, and roadways made of water. Answer: Venice

Bob the tortoise was so excited to arrive in Venice. Located in northeastern Italy, Venice is situated on a group of 118 small islands linked by bridges and walkways. The Venetian Lagoon is located between the mouths of the Piave and Po rivers. A historic heritage site, Venice is a romantic location that continues to experience the often destructive nature of flooding courtesy of unpredictable rainfall and ocean currents. Bob, being a patron of the arts, loves Venice for its history, music, architecture, and unique festivals. Bob was especially popular on the nearby island of Murano.

The resident artisans marveled at Bob's rugged beauty and used him as a model for many of their world famous Venetian glass works. Tired from his travels, Bob kicked up his feet and lived HAPPILY EVER AFTER!
