Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Orange County Choppers (OCC) is a family run business. Father Paul Sr, and son Paul Jr are the two main driving forces behind the company. But, do you know their surname at all?

Answer: Teutul

Paul Sr initially ran the company as Orange County Ironworks, and it wasn't until 1999 when he recruited his son into the business that he was able to pursue his dream of building motorcycles for a living.
2. OCC, as it became, had one goal...to build unique custom choppers. The first public showing of one of their bikes was at Daytona Bike Week 1999. Do you remember which bike this was?

Answer: True Blue

True Blue was the first bike to be publicly shown as an OCC product. It was designed by Paul Sr in his basement.
3. Paul Sr, boss of OCC, also has two other sons; Mikey and Danny. Have either of them joined their father in his dream, by working at OCC? Which of the sons also works for OCC?

Answer: Mikey

Mikey, like his brother Paul, went to work for Orange County Ironworks as a young lad, but then moved on to other things as he reached his teenage years. After some while, he returned to the family business, and got a job for OCC, answering phones, ordering parts etc, and then quickly moved up to helping with bike design and attending shows.
*
Danny, on the other hand, never joined OCC, but instead is the general manager of the original company Orange County Ironworks.
4. OCC's main business is designing and building unique, custom choppers, as previously mentioned. These come in all shapes and sizes, and are very sought after pieces of machinery. On top of this OCC pride themselves on the themed bikes they design. Usually, these are designed for a specific, high profile customer, or based around a specific topic. The first that I will mention is the NY Jets bike. What colour was this bike when completed?

Answer: Green

Quite simply, the colour for the bike was chosen because of the colour the NY Jets wear to play.
5. Another themed bike was named The Discovery Bike, built with the Discovery Channel in mind. The bike, therefore, took on a very distinctive wildlife-look to it. One of the most notable features to the bike was the design of the fuel tank. What was so special about it though?

Answer: It had 2 large fangs hanging down from the front.

From one side, the fang on the fuel tank belongs to a wild cat, most probably a sabre toothed tiger. From the other side, the fang is from a poisonous snake.

The other features mentioned are all on the bike too. The dinosaur scales are on the rear fender, the shark jaws are on the front fender, and the globe is built in to the engine casing.
6. OCC also built a themed chopper for a blockbuster movie. Do you know which film this was for?

Answer: I, Robot

The bike that OCC designed for the film is by far the most modern looking of all the bikes they have built, something not usually seen in choppers. The final product could quite easily have appeared in the film, as everything about the design reflected film.
7. Which famous New York landmark was the inspiration for an OCC themed bike?

Answer: The Statue Of Liberty

The Statue of Liberty Bike was copper plated from end to end. The head of the statue features in many parts of the bike, including on the handle bars, on the petrol tank, and even on the wheels.
8. Of all the bikes designed by OCC, one of the best looking, in my opinion, is the Black Widow. Other than the obvious black that appears on the bike, what two other colors give this bike its stunning looks?

Answer: Red, Silver

Uniquely for a bike, a large amount of the structure was black, most notably a lot of areas that are typically chromed, such as the exhausts and parts of the engine casing. The wheels were made in a scarlet red, as was much of the petrol tank and frame. The rear fender and fuel tank were then covered by a silver spider's web, to add the final touch to the bike.
9. The most sought after bike that OCC have designed is one that carries an emotional banner as well as being awesome to look at. OCC were asked to design a bike in memory of those brave firefighters who lost their lives on September 11th, as a long-lasting memorial to those heroes. What unique finishing touch did Paul Jr add to the bike as it was presented to the firefighters of New York?

Answer: He added a piece of the World Trade Centre to the fuel tank.

The small piece from the World Trade Centre was mounted onto the fuel tank, as a permanent dedication to those who lost their lives. The bike also had a number incorporated into its paint scheme. This was the number 343, being the number of firefighters that died in the tragedy. Other tributes and features of the bike are the mounted axe, siren and crested wheels.
10. Having taken such an interest in the work of OCC, I have made sure many of my friends and colleagues have seen the bikes, particularly the themed ones, that the lads produce. One question they all ask me is "Are these bikes actually rideable?" Well, what do you think? Are they rideable?

Answer: Yes

Despite what many people actually think, all the bikes produced by OCC are fully rideable and some are even road legal.
