Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Nous __________très heureux d'annoncer la naissance du bébé.

Answer: sommes

One slight point in modern spoken French is that you'll hear "on est" for the nous or we. You'll rarely hear the nous conjugated any more in spoken French amongst younger people. In written French you need to conjugate it properly.
Another birth announcement might be, "Nous avons le grand plaisir de vous annoncer..."
2. Ma soeur et moi __________à l'école à pied.

Answer: allons

Nous allons, we go. However once again, in spoken French you'll hear, "On va à l'école à pied" which means, "one goes" as well as "We go to school on foot."
3. Marc _______la viande.

Answer: n'aime pas

aimer= to like or to love. Manger= to eat. Marcher= to walk or to function as in "to run" or "to work". Joke: Votre réfrigerateur marche-t'il?" "Oui" "Alors il faut l'attraper, il marche dans la rue." Just as funny as it is in English, don't you think?
One more tip, in modern spoken French the ne is almost always left out of the negation in practice. Je ne sais pas=je sais pas or even...chais pas!
4. Anne-Sophie et Marie-Hélène _______en Bretagne pour les vacances.

Answer: vont

You might say "sont" for they are in Brittany for vacation, but that wasn't there. So they're going there.
5. Mes parents __________la même musique que moi.

Answer: n'aiment pas

They don't like, ils n'aiment pas. nous n'aimons pas=we don't like.
6. Comme tu ______triste ce soir!

Answer: es

How sad you are tonight!
7. Le chien____faim.

Answer: a

Avoir plus faim...instead of être, don't forget. Avoir plus soif, faim, peur, 16 ans, and a few more are all conjugated with avoir.
8. Tu _______bien! ________encore une chanson!

Answer: chantes, Chante

The tricky little er regular verb doesn't take an s in the infinitive of tu. Funny as it's so convenient to conjugate it! I always say that it's a safe assumption to say that the most verbs are er, so conjugate it like that and they'll correct you if necessary.
Therefore, "schtroumpf" or smurf, becomes "schtroumpfer".
So, once more, the first one is a statement, the second one is the command form or imperatif.
9. Ses soeurs __________allemand couramment.

Answer: parlent

That one was perhaps the number one example in French classes, hope you got it!
10. Arthur _________le bois.

Answer: coupe

If there had been a comma, then coupes and coupez could work, but there wasn't.
Hope you've done very well. Merci de Bruyere.
