Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. A country of Portuguese speakers and World Cup winners With Christ the Redeemer looking down over sinners.

Answer: Brazil

Not only is Brazil the only country in South America to have Portuguese as an official language, it is the largest such country in the world, as it is over 90 times larger than Portugal. Football is the national sport in Brazil and they won the World Cup in 1958, 1962, 1970, 1994, and 2002, when they became the first nation to win it five times. One of the world's most famous statues is that of Christ the Redeemer overlooking Rio de Janeiro.
2. This country is famous for The beautiful beach at Nha Trang shore, Also conical hats, "pho" and more, Such as a certain 20-year war.

Answer: Vietnam

Vietnam is home to some incredible beaches, such as Doc Let and Danang Beach, but the most famous has to be Nha Trang, about eight hours east of Ho Chi Minh City. It is also known as City Beach as it is literally on the doorstep of Nha Trang city and has six kilometres of beautiful golden sands. Pho is a delicious Vietnamese soup of rice noodles and either beef or chicken which became popular worldwide due to the number of refugees from the Vietnam war (1955-1975) eating it.
3. This country's desert, called the Atacama, Would be quite hot when crossed on a llama. Easter Island is a territory of ours, Gaze at the heads and drink Pisco sours.

Answer: Chile

The Atacama desert covers 105,000 square kilometres of Chile's Pacific coast and is the driest non-polar region on the planet. The extreme hyperaridity of the area means that very few animal species are found there, although there is a colony of Humboldt penguins which nest in the desert cliffs overlooking the ocean. Easter Island is one of the remotest inhabited islands in the world and is famed for the 887 moai found there.

These moal are commonly referred to as heads, although many have torsos and a few are complete figures dating back to 1100.

They attract over 100,000 annual visitors to the island.
4. Fidel Castro, Salsa bars, Guantanamo Bay and good cigars.

Answer: Cuba

Fidel Castro governed Cuba from 1959 to 2008, when ill health meant he transferred power to his brother Raul. Cigars are one of Cuba's biggest exports along with sugar and nickel and they ship over 50 million cigars around the world annually. Guantanamo Bay Naval Base is the oldest overseas U.S. Naval Base, having been leased from Cuba since 1903.
5. Between Benin and Ghana, that's where I be. My country's name means "House of Sea".

Answer: Togo

Togo is one of the smallest countries in Africa, but has some of the highest standards of living due to the country's export of phosphates of which it has the fourth largest deposits in the world. Although Togo means "House of Sea", the country has limited territorial waters due to its small size and in fact imports the majority of its fish from Europe.
6. A huge canal, linking two oceans, Manuel Noriega caused such commotion.

Answer: Panama

In 1914, the cargo ship Ancon became the first vessel to transit the canal, which is one of the most incredible engineering feats ever. Originally France sought to build the canal in 1881 but a high mortality rate, mainly due to mosquito borne disease meant this project was shelved. The USA took over in 1904 and just ten years later this 82-kilometre waterway opened for business.
Panama is the only place in the world where you can see the sun rise on the Pacific and set on the Atlantic.
7. Full of history, And oh so pretty, Visit Sarajevo And Mostar city.

Answer: Bosnia and Herzegovina

Bosnia and Herzegovina was the scene of a brutal civil war lasting from 1992 -1995 following the dissolution of Yugoslavia but has managed to transform itself into one of the most desirable tourist locations, attracting almost one and a half million visitors in 2017. Main attractions are the capital, Sarajevo and Mostar, site of the Stari Most, a 16th century Ottoman bridge crossing the Neretva river.
8. Aoraki / Mount Cook, Is my highest peak, A good vantage point, If it's hobbits you seek.

Answer: New Zealand

New Zealand is well known for having way more sheep than people, some studies put the figure at six sheep to every person, but it also has more hobbits than anywhere else, if Peter Jackson is to be believed. The famous director shot the "Lord of the Rings" trilogy entirely in New Zealand, locations including the town of Matamata which became Hobbiton and Aoraki / Mount Cook which became the Lonely Mountain, home to a subterranean Dwarven city.
9. There are many wonderful sights to see, Like Ephesus, Troy and Gallipoli.

Answer: Turkey

Turkey is rich in history with Ephesus being home to one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World, the Temple of Artemis, Troy being the setting for the Trojan Wars as described in Homer's epic poem "The Iliad" and Gallipoli was a major campaign site of WWI.

Other cultural attractions for tourists include the ancient city of Pergamon dating back to 281 BCE and the hot springs at Hierapolis which have been in use since the 2nd century BCE.
10. Three leaders named Kim, Have this country run. Il-Sung was the first; Jong-Il then Jong-Un.

Answer: North Korea

The birth date of Kim Il-Sung (15th April 1912) is so important to North Korea that it is used as the starting point for their calendar. Therefore while it may be 2018 in the majority of the world, it is 106 in North Korea. Il-Sung is revered as the "forever leader", even though he died in 1994 after ruling since 1948.

He was succeeded by his eldest son Kim Jong-Il who died in 2011. Following his death, Kim Jong-Un became leader.
