Answer: Mozambique

The first Prime Minister of Mozambique, Ms Diogo served as head of the nation's government from 2004 to 2010. She obtained a Masters Degree from the University of London's School of Oriental and African Studies in 1992 after serving as a department head in her nation's Finance Ministry and then becoming Mozambique's National Budget Director.

She has worked for the World Bank, is a member of the Council of World Women Leaders, and in 2005 was the guest speaker at the British Labor Party Conference.
2. Portia Simpson-Miller

Answer: Jamaica

Portia Lucretia Simpson-Miller served as Jamaica's Prime Minister in 2006-07 and from 2012 to March of 2016. As leader of the People's National Party, she was also head of the opposition when not in power. A member of the Council of Women World Leaders, Ms. Simpson-Miller was ranked by "Time" magazine as one of the "100 Most Influential Persons in the World" in 2012, and was elected Vice President of Socialist International in 2013.
3. Yulia Tymoshenko

Answer: Ukraine

Yulia Volodymyrivna Tymoshenko served as Ukraine's PM for 225 days in 2005 and then from December of 2007 to March of 2010. She was a co-leader of the massive protests of the "Orange Revolution" of 2004-5 and became Ukraine's first female Prime Minister as head of the All-Ukrainian Union "Fatherland" political party. Politically, she favors Ukrainian membership in the EU.

In 2005 "Forbes" magazine rated her as the "third most powerful woman in the world".
4. Jóhanna Sigurðardóttir

Answer: Iceland

Jóhanna Sigurðardóttir was first elected to the Althing, Iceland's parliament, in 1978. She served as Iceland's PM from 2009 to 2013, for a total of four years, 111 days.
5. Jadranka Kosor

Answer: Croatia

Jadranka Kosor became the first woman, and ninth overall, Prime Minister of Croatia. She served for two years and 170 days, between 2009 and 2011. Beginning her career as a journalist, Ms. Kosor joined the Croatian Democratic Union party in 1989 gained her first seat in Parliament in 1995.
6. Khaleda Zia

Answer: Bangladesh

Khaled Zia served as Bangladesh Prime Minister for five years from 1991 to 1996 and then for another five years between 2001 and 2006. Her husband was Ziaur Rahman, who was the fourth President of Bangladesh from 1977 until his assassination in 1981. Khaleda was ranked at 14th on "Forbes" magazine's 2004 "100 Most Powerful Women in the World." Zia, as head of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party, and her chief rival and head of the Awami Party, Sheikh Hasina, have alternated as the nation's Prime Ministers since 1991.
7. Kamla Persad-Bissessar

Answer: Trinidad and Tobago

Persad-Bissessar was Trinidad and Tobago's seventh Prime Minister and first female to hold the position. Her first term ran from 2010 to 2015, or five years and 106 days. She had previously held the positions of Trinidad and Tobago's Minister of Education and later Attorney General.

She also served as Chairperson of the Commonwealth of Nations. She has held a seat in Parliament since 1995.
8. Yingluck Shinawatra

Answer: Thailand

Yingluck Shinawatra, the daughter of a member of Parliament from Chiang Mai, was Thailand's 28th (and first female) Prime Minister, serving from 2011 to 2014. While in office, she visited over 40 nations, including the US, India, China, Germany, the UK, Tanzania, Australia, New Zealand, and Vietnam, hoping to strengthen ties, improve trade relations, and study water resources management.
9. Helle Thorning-Schmidt

Answer: Denmark

As head of Denmark's Social Democrats from 2005 to 2015, Helle Thorning-Schmidt served as Prime Minister from October 2011 to June 2015. She was the first female in both positions in Denmark's history. From 1999 to 2004 she represented Denmark in the European Parliament before becoming a member of the Folketing, Denmark's Parliament, in 2005.

In 2013, she was criticized for a selfie she took of herself along with the UK's David Cameron and US President Barack Obama, while they were attending the funeral of Nelson Mandela.
10. Laimdota Straujuma

Answer: Latvia

Laimdota Straujuma served two years as Latvia's Prime Minister, from 2014 to 2016, after having been the country's Minister of Agriculture from 2011 to 2014. Like almost all of the other women in this quiz, she was her nation's first head of government.
